Media :: Syncing DRM Music?
Dec 26, 2009
I am currently syncing my music and it says I need to upgrade my purchased songs on iTunes to iTunes Plus. OK, that's no problem but where do I upgrade the songs in iTunes? I can't find any option anywhere!

I got my HTC Hero on three UK network a week ago and I love it!!! Anyway I have pretty much sorted it all out but have a slight problem when it comes to music. I currently have 5 gigs worth of songs I would like to transfer but only a 2 gig memory card. Using WMP11 I converted them to 64kbps and synced perfectly but then I realised that WMP had converted my mp3s to WMAs. For the first few minutes it would work fine on the hero but then it would suddenly stop and no more music would play. I also noticed that the temperature would usually jump from 27.1 to 44.2 while the music was playing. All in all my question is.... are there any free programs that will convert mp3s to lower bitrates which are still mp3 format and sync them to my HTC hero?

I keep all my music on my PC in MP3 format at 320kbps. I prefer 192kbps on my phone as I'm not too concerned about quality on the move and I can fit more music on that way. I don't want to keep 2 versions of each album as I have loads and that's not really practical. At the moment I sync using WMP12 as it allows you to re-encode to a lower bitrate as it syncs but the only problem is that it re-encodes to WMA format. I don't really have a problem with that as it's only going on my phone but with Froyo there's a bug that means the phone can no longer read the artist tag of WMA files. Since Froyo has now been out for months and there's no word about the bug from Google it appears there's no chance of it getting fixed (a cunning ploy to stop people using WMA seems the most likely explanation I guess) So can anyone recommend a piece of software I can use for Windows that will re-encode to a lower MP3 bitrate as I sync? Does such a thing exist?

One of the few major drawbacks of android is the only application which syncs music with my phone well is doubleTwist, and that's still pretty buggy. is google ever going to get around to having an answer itunes/zune software? even for someone who doesnt mind doing heavy tinkering with the phone/is a geek like myself its annoying that such a mundane process still doesn't have a simple, elegant solution

How To: Properly Sync Music To Android With MediaMonkey | RickyCadden.com from the site: Mount your phone in USB Mode to your computer, and note the drive letter that it is associated Open this drive in Windows Explorer and create the appropriate folders where you want your music stored. I have one called Music and one called Playlists, but you can do this however you want. Now launch MediaMonkey, and make sure it shows your phones memory card in the left sidebar (separately from the MyComputer option) In MediaMonkey, click on Tools up top, then choose Options and go down to Portable/Audio Devices Uncheck *all* of the plug-ins except d_USBMass1.dll Highlight d_USBMass1.dll and click on the Configure button to the right Choose the Device Configuration tab in the dialog box that popped up In the middle of this tab, youll see a box called Device Name, which is where youll type the name of your phone (mine is NexusOne)Below this, choose the appropriate drive letter from the drop-down Below this, enter a Drive Label (again, mine is NexusOne)Leave the USB Device ID box empty and dont click the Find Device button While you have this dialog box open, you can tinker with the other tabs, if you want. This is where you can specify a folder hierarchy and adjust your sync settings. I would recommend creating a small playlist (~15-20 tracks from various artists/genres/albums) to test with you dont want to do a full sync only to realize you dont like your sync settings. This guide is better because it allows for the use of smart playlists and has much fewer steps than if you use winamp.

I guess no one cares to listen to their favorite music in the order the artist intended? we now listen to timeless classic Opera in whatever order? makes no difference? Classic Rock albums out of order? Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon"?

After hours of hit and miss using programs like Double Twist etc. I found that the easiest way to sync music to the iHTC Music player is to use Windows Media Player and buy Album Art Grabber to load the album art. Once you have done the initial sync with WMP you can go back and load individual albums simply by dragging them to the sync area. Connect your phone to the PC and unmount the SD card Open WMP and click the sync tab. Click the drive that represents your SD card (mine was H You will be prompted to sync everything for either this session or all sessions. (I always click this session only). Works great and all I will need in the future!

I've got a ton of music on my SD card in my phone, approx. 6.5GB worth on an 8GB card. The problem is, the music players in Android (I've used the default, RockOn and MixZing, though I want to stay with MixZing) only recognize about 80% of the music, in their libraries. The thing is, the music is there! If I browse to the folder and launch the file it will play, but there's no artist/title data, even though all the files are properly tagged (mp3s), plus, it opens in a weird verion of the default music player that will stop playing if it loses focus.
This has been a issue ever since I got this phone. It's a brand new SD card (my previous one, in addition to this problem, had major corruption issues; I originally thought it was the card but I guess that's not the case). Also, I've gone through two different ROMs (one when I first got the phone, and a second that I upgraded to about a month ago), so I don't think that's the issue. It seems to affect random folders (albums) at different times, whenever the library is refreshed, but I can't refresh the library manually (that I've found) to see if it's just not scanning those files, or if it's a more underlying issue. I'm stumped

I'm having A LOT of trouble finding an application that will let me sync my music to my new Evo 4G (I just got it 2 days ago and I'm in love with it). I would like to drop iTunes all together and just move to something else but if I can't that will be okay. So and Android guys wanna help me out? I have about 2,000 out of 14,000 I wanna move to my beautiful new baby.I've been using the iPhone for 3 years now and I've finally been released from their death grip. I have NO regrets what so ever about switching to Android ESPECIALLY with the Evo & Sprint (4G Coverage in D.C.).

Ive been looking everywhere and still cant seem to do it but manually, but is there any program possible that I can sync Playlists from say iTunes that are in m3u format and it will show up as a playlist on my Droid? The only way that i found possible is by making the playlist each time i add a song to it and loading it to the Droid, which is a pain. And Songbird doesnt really support the Droid yet.

I've been using the standard media player on my Nexus one since I've gotten it, only loaded music once using simple copy and paste method on the folder level. Problem is I've gotten new music (alot) and I can no longer fit it all on my nexus one.
Before someone mentions it, I've tried using DoubleTwist and I'm not a fan, I've had issues with slow syncing, duplicates, and as a music manager I can't determine the total size of the media I want to sync, can't choose more than all or selected playlists, no artist selections, I can't edit the file tags within the application, and some music isn't removed when I try to remove it from my library (not move to trash)... Overall I'm very unsatisfied.
Needless to say I'm looking for something else to use, something that allows me to rate my music both on the desktop and on my nexus one...and that those ratings actually sync on... this will allow me to determine what I Listen to and thus only transfer that over to my N1.

Up until now I wasn't having any luck syncing my Incredible with Windows Media Player 12. I ended up renaming my folder structure and it made WMP12 see the Incredible's media. By default, the Incredible makes a folder on the internal 8GB drive called MP3. Originally I put all my music in this folder. But when it was in there, WMP12 could not see it. I ended up creating the following folder structure, and it now syncs correctly. I think the main thing is to have a folder named 'music', not 'MP3'.Now my next step is to try and figure out how to sync my home computers music from any Windows 7 / WMP12 computer. I would like to plug my Incredible into my Windows 7 computer at work, and sync my home computers media data. I read that you can stream music from your home computer this way (WMP12 feature), so I am assuming there may be a way to sync it too. I'll let you know what I find. Let me know if you find out first.

I'm having issues syncing playlists from my computer to my phone.
Here's my issue;
Basically when i sync playlists from my PC to my phone, it saves the playlists on my phone as .PLA format.
Now the only player that actually reads those playlists is my stock player.
I have tried several android players, but non of them will recognize the playlists.
On my PC for syncing i have tried
-WMP
-Winamp
-MediaMonkey
-DoubleTwist
All of these create playlists in PLA format on my device when transferring them, which wouldnt be a problem if i wanted to use the stock player.
As for android apps/media players i have tried:
-Cubed
-Winamp
-Mort Player
-Media PlayerPro
-Mixzing
-Astro Player
When i create a playlist using any of the apps on my phone, every other app is capable of reading them.
However, the playlist file can not be found on my phone, or my SD card. so i have no clue what format they are saved to, or where they are saved too.
I'm basically looking for a way to transfer my playlists from my computer to my android phone, and have the other apps actually read the playlists. The phone im using is the Samsung Galaxy S.

I was wondering if there was a way to sync back information about how many times you listened to a song, to itunes on my computer. Im huge on the smart playlists, especially having my top 50 most listened to. It bothers me if I listen to a song a ton, and it doesn't climb up in the rankings.
I saw on some site that maybe using TuneWiki (which is what I already use), then linking to last.fm might enable to do this. But how? I saw something about a scrobbler that would help, but I don't get what I would do. Put a scrobbler app on the comp as last.fm is offering, or find a scrobbler app for my phone in order to sync that with itunes?

I got my Evo 4g and I'm absolutely in love with it, but getting music to show up in ANY music player without a flaw is an absolute nightmare. If I use Tunesync the music all gets onto the card, but the playlists don't appear. If I use Doubletwist, not only does the sync take millennia, the playlists do not show up and I get duplicate playlists. If I use Salling Media, I have the same problem I have with playlist, and I get an error about source files not being htere. After over 6 hours of googling and more than 5 sd card reformats, I'm abotu to give up. Have any users succeeded in getting all the playlists to show up with no duplicates and all of the songs they wanted? If so, how?

I use poweramp and really don't want to use another music player in order to do this. But if that's what I'm stuck with ill do it.

need a way to sync/listen to music to 2 Android devices and multiple PCs and trying to get the following functions:
1.) Ability to upload all songs to cloud
2.) Ability to listen to everything in the cloud or set some as "Offline" on mobile devices and laptops
3.) Ability to create playlists that stay synced( meaning if I add or remove a song on mobile it shows on desktop, all changes synced everywhere )
4.) Ability to rate songs from 1 - 5 ( much like iTunes, MediaMonkey, etc... )
5.) And this is the big one! The ability to create Smart Playlists like on iTunes based on Ratings that stay synced everywhere( Changing rating on mobile changes everywhere )
I think I've found all of the above in most services except 4 and 5. I cannot find a service that allows detailed ratings( 1 - 5, not Google Music's thumb up or down( how useless is that ) ) and also couldn't find smart playlist functionality anywhere.
I need ratings and smart playlists, and the only other option I can think of is moving my music to Dropbox, installing Media Monkey so it looks at Dropbox for ratings and smart playlists( or views, whatever they call it ). But this leaves me out of luck on mobile devices.
I'd like to use Google Music but it doesn't have the rating / playlist stuff, non of them do, well not smart playlists anyways.

I just got a free HTC Magic at the Google I/O conference and am liking it so far. I'm trying to set it up as a day-to-day replacement for my iPod, and right now I'm using BeyondPod for podcasts and have tried several different music players. My plan was to keep the two separate - Podcast software for podcasts and a music player for music. There's just one problem that is driving me nuts: I can't figure out how to keep "non-music" MP3s (namely, podcasts) out of the music library. The music players all seem to scan for every audio file on my SD card, and can't be forced to use just the Music folder. So I end up with a music library littered with podcasts.
I'd put them in separate playlists, but the files are constantly changing, and it wouldn't be worth trying to keep up with them. Am I missing something? I've googled the heck out of this and can't seem to find anyone else who's bothered by this. Is there any way to have a music player only play files from a certain folder?

I know I can easily drag-n-drop files onto my Hero's SD card, and also use programs like MediaMonkey or Windows Media Player to sync music, but I can't seem to sync playlists. I have to manually create playlists on the Hero music app on the phone, and that is a pain.

I had problems with my PC (Vista) recognizing the phone but now it seems to be working but I don't know if I should just drag and drop my music files to the droid or if I need to use a program to sync it. I have media money but it doesn't seem to be syncing up with my phone. I also would like to know if there is an app that would work better then the AT&T music player which I have read sucks.

I have tried many programs and aps to sync music to my incredible. I have used doubletwist, mediamonkey, sailing media sync, itunes agent, itunes export, isyncr, and songbird. From my experience, mediamonkey works the best and gets the job done better than the rest. My problem though is that when I sync playlists to the sd card, the program transfers all of the songs, but the last 20 or so songs won't play on the phone. It's almost as if the transfer didn't finish. Is anybody else having this problem or know of a fix?

I'm trying to get a subset of my music from my laptop onto my Eris. Can't use iTunes (obviously). iTunes Agent sets up just fine, but then when I hit the "sync" button, says "no connected devices" or words to that effect. (Even though it saw the Eris just fine when going through setup!) Doubletwist doesn't see all my playlists (and it DOES see playlists that were deleted). I have it syncing a couple of playlists, just to see how it goes. Salling Media Sync seemed like a great idea (it saw all the right playlists) but it crashes every time on the first song. And if I take that song out of the sync, it crashes on the "new" first song.
I've looked at MediaMonkey and TuneWiki and (for various reasons) didn't like them. I'd be fine with DoubleTwist if only it saw the real playlists... (and yes, I've searched the forums, apologies in advance if I missed the answer)

I recently switched to a Galaxy S3 after owning an Iphone 3GS for a few years. For me, playing music is one of the most important aspects of a smart phone, and I have somewhat specific requirements. I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this:
1. I have a large library of ripped and carefully tagged MP3s on my home PC.
2. I want to add to this library and keep it synced with my phone.
3. I want my phone to be my primary music player. As such, I want to:
3a. Play a song in the car, via the phone
3b. Arrive at work, plug my phone into my PC via USB or connect over the WiFi, and continue to play the same song, sourced from the phone, but output to my PC headphones
What I DON'T want to do is:
- plug headphones directly into my phone while at work
- use the phone interface to choose/play/stop music while at work
That seems simple enough, but so far I haven't found any software that will cooperate.
- "Google Play Music" won't track what was playing on my phone and then update it when I'm on my PC, the two are totally independent. I'm also not ready to totally commit to the cloud, as I have bandwidth limitations and spotty data reception when I'm not at home or work.
- Kies won't properly sort the music on my phone when the phone is connected, nor does it provide an easy interface for viewing or playing music from the phone
- Windows Media Player refuses to sort the songs on my phone properly. It has problems identifying artists and will sort albums alphabetically instead of in proper track order. It's possible that there's some tagging difference between every other program I've used and WMP, and maybe I can rectify this by retagging all of my music to work better with WMP, but that seems like an enormous task and I'd like to avoid it if possible.

I just bought and Asus 300 tablet for house use. I mainly bought this for our 4 year old for learning apps and entertainment. I then realized that I have her music on a bunch of other devices so I figured that now would be a good time to get everything synced up with one another. I am mainly concerned about the music aspect of syncing and if an app(s)/method(s) included other things like pictures and videos I would not be opposed. The main devices I want to sync are as follows:
-2 galaxy s3
-2 older Android phones that will be used as media (music devices like an ipod) which are a Epic 4G and a Evo
-1 Asus Transformer 300
-2 computers running Vista and Windows 8
And maybe if it wasnt a problem an XP desktop, an XP laptop, and an Ipod nano.
how Apple is about sharing and I could just take most of my music to another system/use another method. I have looked into Amazons Cloud Player and have heard about some other Apps like Double Twist but I am still a little lost. I am basically looking for something that is more or less fully automated (or pretty close to it).
