Media : Most Mp3s Won't Play / Install More Codecs On Android?
Jul 1, 2010
I have copied about ten albums of mp3s onto my HTC Desire but only about one in five of the tracks will actually play. Windows Media Player doesn't have a problem with any of them.
I've tried playing with the default music player and Meridian with the same result. Has anyone seen this?
Is it possible to install more codecs on the Android? Is that even the problem?

I'm using a desire, which is fantastic but I've got one issue. Using the default music player - just called 'Music' when I play an album the tracks seem to play in a random order. The player seems to be reading tags properly , correct track names and artwork etc and if I look at a tracks properties in the player software I can see that it is reading track number info. I don't know if there is a setting I have got wrong but it would be great to get songs playing in right order. Other than this the Desire is great.

This is 2010. I refuse to believe that you can only play movies/video files that have .avi, .mp4, .mpg, .mkv file formats by converting. I remember Sony was slow on the uptake when they started the media server streaming which I use on a daily basis at home now.Is there a program that will decode the files as you stream them? Any codecs to install on the Droid X? I have thousands of video files and "converting" is time consuming not to mention creating two video files instead of one to play on devices. Converting is BS and whoever thought "Let's just have the users convert the video files" needs to take a long walk off a short pier.

This would be my first post here now. Anyway, here's my situation: I have a NAS where I store my MP3s and I can access it anywhere through its FTP server capability. I have already been able to access the FTP using And FTP and download files from it to play, so I'm good there. But what I would really like to do is be able to open and play the files remotely and basically just stream that song from the NAS/FTP server instead. Anybody know of a way to pull this off? Or am I going to have to bug some dev to program an app for me that does that?

Yep. SO I bought a bunch of MP3s from the Amazon store. I was clearing ot some folders of apps I had uninstalled, and accidentally deleted the storage folder for the Amazom mp3 purchases. Oops.
Is there anyway to get them back without paying again?

I've got a bunch of MP3s in Google Drive, and I'd like to be able to play them on my Android. The problem is that when I play an MP3 on the phone, no matter what app I choose to use to play it (and I've tried a bunch!) the MP3 opens in such a way that if I then switch to another app, playback stops. In other words, the Google Drive MP3 won't play in the background.
Is there any way to make MP3s play from Google Drive in such a way that they WILL play in the background? I've found some awkward workaround to do this -- like downloading the MP3 from the Google Drive web app, or like pinning the MP3 in the Google Drive Android app and then using an Android file manager to find the file and copy it to a folder that the music player searches -- but I really wish there was a better way!!! Has anyone found a way to email or otherwise send mp3 files to another person? I tried the "Explorer" file manager which allows emailing files. I can email from gmail to another account. When I access that account with the standard email client, there is no option to save the audio file (or even just open) as there is for receiving image files. When I send from my non-gmail account to gmail, the file gets truncated to 5MB and can only be previewed within the gmail client. I tried the K-9 client but I can't set it up with my non-gmail account because you cannot select a port for the incoming server (only the outgoing). Thanks for any suggestions.

So I have a directory on my phone with some MP3s. I put a ".nomedia" file in the directory because I don't want these files to show up in Google Play Music
When I open 'Play Music', these files show up no matter what.
I just want Google Play Music to stream files, and I want to use an alternative player for the local Mp3s.

I see another post on this but it's a little outdated so I'm hoping there has been a recent development.Looking for a way to transmit audio from media (music, movies, audiobooks...not phone calls) to my standard bluetooth wireless device, which is not A2DP.This worked perfectly with no tweaks on my enV Touch so clearly it isn't a hardware issue, which by extension means there should be a software workaround, possibly in the form of a downloadable App.Anything that would work is cool though registry edits, whatever, I just desperately want to listen to audiobooks at work without buying a new headset!
