Media : Customize Specific System Notifications?
Mar 1, 2010
Basically I would really enjoy the ability to customize the sound for plugging my phone in, and a different one for unplugging. Even better if these could be "outside" the default notification sounds. I realize this sounds crazy, but my phone has a mario theme to it, and the plug in is "gain a mushroom" sound, and I would love it if it did the "loose a powerup" sound when I unplugged.

Is it at all possible? We want to put non-button Views in our System Bar. We do have system keys for our specific tablet.
One of my friends tried doing it with no success, but I assume he was looking in the wrong places. I don't know what he knows about the process, so I can't say what we've tried.
We're using Android 4.2 .
I guess I should also mention that we've tried this app - [URL] ..... though we haven't been able to find any info on how he got it to work.

how to customize the text message notifications... but can not figure out how to customize the email notifications..is there a way? I have a work and personal email account on my EVO and they both notify me with the same sound! I like ignoring my work ones on the weekends... is there an app I could download to customize my contacts ring tones and text messages as well?

Can someone tell me if there is a way to customize all the individual notifications (email, facebook, twitter, text)?I've looked through the phone and it looks like they group all the notifications together. Also, coming from blackberry, I was used to getting notifications at the top of the screen for facebook, twitter, email, pageonce and other apps that had PUSH information. Is there any way to do that too? I'm also trying to look into the TelusStone flash.I've done a search and haven't come up with much. Does anyone have some info or feedback on it as far as what it does and takes away?

I have a couple of questions about Handcent. I have been using chompSMS. I really like how much you can customize the fonts, colors, and notifications as well as other things. I also like the notification system. I use it to notify me instead of the default sms app. Once I open, reply or close the text the notification goes away. I was thinking of trying Handcent just to see how it compares. I was wondering if it has a lot of customization options and notification options as well.

I want to set it up so that when my wife, boss and best friend call me , my phone rings out-loud or vibrates even if the phone is muted or on silent. (Bonus points if you can get it to do this for when they send me a text message as well...)I want to be able to customize notification sound levels for different apps. For example, I want the Text Messaging app and Calendar to make a loud sound when I receive a message, Google Voice to vibrate, Facebook to be silent and only flash a light and Google Talk to be completely silent (but still show up in the notifications bar)I want different light colors for different notifications. For example, green for emails, blue for text, white for facebook and purple for IMs.I

I missed mytouch from when I had tmobile and got the Samsung intercept from sprint(back to my old plan) and I love it. However I've always loved on sprint phones being able to customize absolutely everything. I could make a ringer for someone when they call(which yes, I know how to do this on my android and have) but I also was able to make a special text/sms/notification ringtone for individuals as well. I only like hearing the message alert for certain people and then silent/vibrate for everyone else so it's getting frustrating. Are there any apps that do this? or any way to at all?

Is there a way (an app, framework module, flashable zip, whatever) to disable toast notifications? Ideally, this should work for a specific app but if that's not possible disabling them in total would be fine, too.
"Why would you do that", you may ask. Well, the thing is, I use the app "Best Wifi" to switch my wifi automatically at home since I'm using a repeater there. But as soon as I'm in an area without wifi connection, it tries to connect to a wifi and keeps on sending toast notifications with "no APN found blabla" every 15 seconds. Thats especially disturbing when I use my phone as a navigation device in the car. So, it would be great if I could block those toast notifications from popping up.
Currently, I'm using a rooted Nexus 5 with Beanstalk ROM on 4.4.2.

I installed the Nimbuzz app today. It has system access to prevent the phone from sleeping. Which really sucks because I can't leave it running in the background so I stay logged on. If I keep the Nimbuzz services running then The display won't time out on inactivity. If you close the services then You can't get the incoming chats.
Is there away to deny certain access to apps but allow the rest and install it? From my experience I've only seen that it's all or nothing.

I would like to skip 1 particular app update, or at least turn off the notification that this app update is available, but *not* lose other app update notifications. This isn't about email, sms, battery, or other notifications, only the notifications that app updates are available.
Specifically: Yelp just released an update that wants permission to view my phonebook. I don't see why they need that and don't want to give permission. The older version of Yelp did not seem to ask for this, and I'm happy w/ the app and prefer not to uninstall totally, just skip this particular update with the feature I don't like. (Appreciate your thoughts on that Yelp / privacy issue too, fwiw).
So, I want to get rid of the notification for this particular update. But, I don't want to turn off notifications when other apps have available updates. When I click on the notification, I have option to "update" or "uninstall." Neither is what I want, I want to "skip this update, keep app." The top bar icon goes away after I check, but it comes right back soon after, always w/ the Yelp update waiting there, sometimes w/ other updates for other apps too. How to get rid of the one I don't want, keep the others coming through?

I use my phone to with two calendar accounts, one google-account for private and one outlook exchange account for company. I want both to sync so that I can watch the calendar (that works). I want my private account to notify me of calendar events (that works). But I do NOT want my company account to notify me of calendar events, because there are so many meetings, that its like SPAM (and I am already reminded by my laptop at work).
So: Can I turn off the notifications for a specific account?
To clarify:
- no I do not want to change the notifications on the appointments, because I do want to be reminded at work
- no I do not want to disable the synchronisation for the company account, because I do want to be able to look at my calendar.
It is easily possible to disable the mail notification for the company account only, but it seems not to be possible for calendar notifications?

I downloaded System Panel, and its cool as hell I really like it. But after a day went by I noticed I stopped receiving email notifications. So I assumed System Panel was the culprit. So I proceeded to uninstall it and voila, I'm getting email alerts again. So I reinstalled it and made sure all the HTC system services were under exclusion, because I thought that maybe I killed the app that handles the email notifications. Well after reinstall and making sure that all the critical HTC system services were set to exclusions, It started again. No email notifications. What am I doing wrong? The EVO is my first Android Phone and I really like System Panel. I just want them to play nice together. My 24 hours are up so I cant request a refund. But If I cant figure it out I will accept the 3.00 dollar loss and go back with ATK.

If I customize all of my alerts for SMS, email, calls, etc., to sounds (no vibrate), and put the phone in vibrate mode, does it replace all of these sounds with vibration? So that there is no sound coming out of the phone? Same with if I put the phone on silent? I would hope you don't have to go in and change the notification settings for each application to vibrate if you want vibrate, right?I've read some stuff that suggested that this could happen, and it doesn't make sense, but I wanted to make sure.

Some custom ROMs have different ringtones. I have a "Ringtones" folder on my SD with my own, but the ROMs carry theirs internally and once you change ROMs, so do the ringtones. I haven't looked yet, but would they possibly be in the ROM zip file and could I just pull them out of the zip to my computer? I guess I will look now, but let me know if this is the right way or if something else works better. Ultimately I would like to pull off all system ringtones so I can condense to my own and ones I have selected. It's overwhelming sometimes given that I don't and won't ever use 70% of the stock tones.

I am trying to add custom notifications to my G1.
I have created the audio as .ogg files uploaded them to a folder on the root of my sd card '/notifications' and can view them from the Settings > Sound & Display > Notification activity.
My problem is they all sound the same! (something like a short ringing sound).
I can play them through the ASTRO file manager and they sound as they do on my PC. I am stumped... perhaps anyone can help me to figure out why this is? I have tried converting to a few different formats (wav, mp3, etc) and using them but nothing seems to work.

One issue that I can't seem to remember being a problem on my G1 is that I can still hear notifications while music, video, or the FM Radio is being played back. Obviously, I can't really test the FM Radio bit on my G1, but I'm certain that this wasn't an issue when playing music or watching videos (including YouTube). It wouldn't be much of a problem if the notification didn't completely mute the sound of whatever else I'm doing for however long it plays. Anyone else notice this? Is there a work around I'm not seeing in the settings?

I am new to Android and has been trying to find out if Android 1.5 on HTC magic is able to put system to sleep while collecting audio data through microphone.
What I am trying to accomplish is to continously collecting audio (PCM 16bit at 8K Hz) from microphone as long as possible. I have tested with AudioRecord class and is able to record audio continously for 7 hours before battery running out. 7 hours is good but not enough.
I noticed that during recording, although screen is turned off automatically, the system is never put into sleep mode. I wish sleep mode will allow recording go much longer. I found out by comparing SystemClock.uptimeMillis() and System.currentTimeMillis() before and after recording.
However as I reviewed David Sparks presentation at Google I/O (Google I/O - Mastering the Android Media Framework). David suggested at the end of the presentation that system should be automatically go to sleep mode while AudioRecord is collecting data into the preconfigured buffer(1 M bytes in my example). There are two problems I was facing while trying a simple recording 8k PCM 16bit using buffer of 1 Mbytes.
1. AudioRecord.setPositionNotificationPeriod() or AudioReocrd.setNotificationMarkerPosition() does not seem to work. I wish to periodically wake up to retrieve data by calling AudioRecord.read().
However, I do not get call back at all as I configured. Eventually AudioRecord stopped when record buffer overflowed. Below is the code.
2. With problem 1, I have to call AudioRecord.read() in a while loop from a separate thread. When I read(), the thread will block on the read() until read buffer is filled. During the block, I hope the system may go to sleep mode. My program works and audio data were successfully read but system never went to sleep during the block.
My idea of putting system into sleep while recording audio continously.

I want different notifications for different events, e.g. for SMS I want one sound and vibrate function, for YMail and GMail I want a different sound and no vibrate. I tried Rings Extended, but that just takes the existing settings a step further by allowing music or sounds to be added. It doesn't distinguish between different events.

I've got duplicate ringtones in the phone and notifications menu settings. These ringtones were acquired from marketplace apps and saved. For instance, I have two 'Hello sir C3PO', three 'Incoming transmission', two 'Resistance is futile', and five 'You belong with me'. That's what I get for letting the kids play.
Anyway, I have removed the apps, but, I cannot find the files to remove the duplicates from the menu list. I've checked the /system/media/audio files and checked the SD card and cannot find them.
