Media :: Custom Notifications To G1
Jun 19, 2009I am trying to add custom notifications to my G1.
I have created the audio as .ogg files uploaded them to a folder on the root of my sd card '/notifications' and can view them from the Settings > Sound & Display > Notification activity.
My problem is they all sound the same! (something like a short ringing sound).
I can play them through the ASTRO file manager and they sound as they do on my PC. I am stumped... perhaps anyone can help me to figure out why this is? I have tried converting to a few different formats (wav, mp3, etc) and using them but nothing seems to work.

Jul 7, 2009I want different notifications for different events, e.g. for SMS I want one sound and vibrate function, for YMail and GMail I want a different sound and no vibrate. I tried Rings Extended, but that just takes the existing settings a step further by allowing music or sounds to be added. It doesn't distinguish between different events.

Jun 21, 2010My only complaint about the Droid is the seeming lack of options for notifications.
Is there a way, or an app, that would allow you to assign different notifications to emails vs texts vs missed calls?
Also, does anyone know if there's a way to set the phone to re-notify you periodically if you have a notification that has not been looked at? I tend to leave my phone sitting on my desk at work and would like it to let me know if I missed a call or text while I was away from my desk.
Ideally I'd like to silence email notifications, but have text and missed call notifications with unique ring tones for each, and I'd like the phone to renotify me every 10 minutes or so if I have a text or missed call waiting for me.

Nov 12, 2010How do I get my custom ringtones from rooted media folder to show up in selection menus?
I am rooted and have successfully copied .ogg .wav or .mp3 ringtones to system/media/audio/ringtones, notifications or alarms folders. I can even play them from those folders on press.
My hassle is I am not able to select these as my tones. They don't show up in the menus. I want them in the root because if I am connected to my pc and an email/text/call comes in that is assigned a Custom tone on sd, then my tones revert back to a default tone and I have to reset them all when i disconnect from pc
HTC EVO 4G :: Notifications During Media Playback
Jun 5, 2010One issue that I can't seem to remember being a problem on my G1 is that I can still hear notifications while music, video, or the FM Radio is being played back. Obviously, I can't really test the FM Radio bit on my G1, but I'm certain that this wasn't an issue when playing music or watching videos (including YouTube). It wouldn't be much of a problem if the notification didn't completely mute the sound of whatever else I'm doing for however long it plays. Anyone else notice this? Is there a work around I'm not seeing in the settings?

Mar 1, 2010Basically I would really enjoy the ability to customize the sound for plugging my phone in, and a different one for unplugging. Even better if these could be "outside" the default notification sounds. I realize this sounds crazy, but my phone has a mario theme to it, and the plug in is "gain a mushroom" sound, and I would love it if it did the "loose a powerup" sound when I unplugged.

One thing I loved about my bold was how I was able to customize notifications; email was only indicated by the LED light, SMS vibrated, phone vibrated then rang, and additionally, I had unique notification settings for certain contacts (ie, my wife). Is there a way to do any of the above? Especially looking for a way to keep email notification silent but have SMS vibrate.

Sep 27, 2013So on my Galaxy s4 I know how to set up a custom sms/mms tone for individual contacts. HOWEVER they are always the same tones listed. When I create or download any notification sound it won't show up on the list when I try to make it a custom but it will show for my default list. Apparently I did it somehow because one of my notification tones I created appeared on the list but that's it. How to add to that list?

Jan 7, 2010I've got duplicate ringtones in the phone and notifications menu settings. These ringtones were acquired from marketplace apps and saved. For instance, I have two 'Hello sir C3PO', three 'Incoming transmission', two 'Resistance is futile', and five 'You belong with me'. That's what I get for letting the kids play.
Anyway, I have removed the apps, but, I cannot find the files to remove the duplicates from the menu list. I've checked the /system/media/audio files and checked the SD card and cannot find them.

Aug 9, 2010I looked around and couldn't seem to find the information I was seeking in one place but found it on various forums. I thought I would put it here in case others need it or are looking for it. I was trying to add custom mp3 tones to my alarm clock, gmail, sms, etc., but I couldn't get the phone to recognize anything. In the end this is what I did to make it work:
I plugged the phone into my PC using the "usb storage device" option upon connection. I created a folder in the root directory called Tones (probably anything will work as a name) and then created 3 folders inside called Ringtones, Notifications, and Alarms. Anything in those folders will show up only in that app.
In other words, if you want a custom Alarm, you will need an Alarms folder and an mp3 or two. If you have a custom ringtone, you will need to put it in the Ringtones folder and so on. I got a bunch from the Zedge website but I've made a few of my own such as Halo Chant among others.

For example, I may want the phone on vibrate but have any email/SMS with the string "CRITICAL" (case sensitive) in the subject use a loud alert sound and repeat every 2 min until I acknowledge or read the email. The closest thing I could find was having handcent do a custom notification on the SMS sender's number, but it lacks the repeat options. Anyone know of an app that can do this?

Jan 14, 2014I am very new to Android (using non-rooted LG Nexus 5) and am having a great problem finding a feature that I depended on regularly with my Blackberry.
I occasionally receive an email from an automated server that indicates an emergency with one of the systems I manage. In Blackberry, I had setup a custom notification based on the email source address, and it would play a custom ringtone (Star Trek Red Alert) at top volume whenever a email from that contact was received. Android only allows custom "ringtones" on a per-contact basis, but these ringtones are only used for phone calls. There is no similar setting for SMS/MMS or Email messages that I can find on Android. I think it is strange that it is not part of the base functionality -- I am beginning to suspect it is a patent issue and it never will be added.
I can't find a good third-party application to provide this additional feature for email.I have tried several and found none adequate (for example, they fail with "Unfortunately has stopped.", they create separate connections to email servers and suck the battery dry, or they are built for SMS/MMS only).

Also, the sounds only happens at random times, when I have NO notifications. It really bothers me. Oct 23, 2008So you want some cool ringtones but the music you listen to isn't supported by Tmobile website... or the I'm too cheap to pay 1$ for a ringtone because I blew 200$ on my phone.
Step 1. Get Audacity. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Step 2. Find a file named Lame_enc.dll This is the mp3 encoder needed for audacity to export files as mp3 files.
Step 3. Find something worth making a ringtone out of. Audacity has an excellent ability to record anything you can hear through your speakers. I instead just loaded the program. then open the mp3 file I wanted to use.
In this case I choose a file I recorded while I listened to it for the sole purpose of turning it into a ringtone. takes a sec to import it. Then Play the song to ensure it is what you want. Also note the time marks for when you want the ringtone to start and when you want it to end.
Media :: Video Fails On Custom Rom
Sep 9, 2010I am running a version of pl3x on my Moto Droid. I am not able to play any video (even youtube via the app). I have tried both the main player and kmplayer. I actually first noticed this earlier today when trying to play a video on youtube (it worked yesterday). I have run into this in the past and wrote it off as the rom (I do not remember which one I was running at the time) but restoring from an old backup followed by install of pl3x fixed it. I am really looking for an option other than flashing my phone again since it seems to happen multiple times on multiple roms.

May 12, 2010I made some Icons just for fun so I thought I'd share them. Plenty of different Androids in different colors and then you'll find plenty of random things. Also theres one called invisible, I like to keep my main screen as clean and simple as possible. So I used the invisible .png image to create an icon for gmail and texting, the 2 things I use the most. On my main screen I only have a search bar and the two invisible icons, everything else is on other pages. But anyways the invisible one is in there if anyone wants to use it. Use better cut or something like that to use these.
I'm using Nextheme.
