LG Ally :: Turning Off Dual Clock Update Service On Reboot?
Aug 26, 2010
I dropped the Dual Clock widget on my home screen then deleted it from the home screen. When I go to Settings/Applications/Running Applications the updater for that widget is active. I have not found a way to permanently get rid of the Dual CLock update service upon reboot. I know how to manually stop it from running but don't want to have to do that every time my phone starts up. What a pain. Since it's not an app it cannot be deleted.

I have had my droid x since aug 16th. Never have paid attention to it until today when a friend was playing with camera but I noticed that both leds on the flash doesn't come on during picture taking. Also noticed this on camcorder setting also. Its always the top led that doesn't light up. Now I am assuming this isn't normal and something is wrong. Is this a hardware or setting issue or is my flash messed up and need to be fixed. If so is it still under warranty since I have only had it since august?

Phone is a box stock ALLY.
i have Duke Nukem 3D which hasn't had ANY problems. after I got the update yesterday to VB, the Duke icon disappears after i turn the phone off & on.
i have reinstalled Duke about 10 times, deleted its folder on the SD card, uninstalled Duke from the market & also using the droid uninstall.
nothing seems to keep the icon on the screen. when i turn the phone off & on, i don't have the Duke icon anymore, its a green droid square with a file name and when i press that to run Duke I get a "force close" message.

this isnt the same as all the others, i rooted my phone and was able to download apps for a few minutes, after that all my apps would sit at "starting Download" i would wait hours for it to work but nothing ever changed. i paniked and reset factory settings on my phone so i only have stock apps and SU, the catch is it wont let me delete SU so my warrantee is void. also when i try to reboot recovery it looks like it will then goes black and starts normally. is there a way to remove SU or reboot recovery another way? i would be fine if the market started working again please help.

I use the alarm clock on the Incredible as my main method of waking me up in the morning. I also have a tendency to hit the snooze button quite a few times before I can get my lazy butt out of bed. I've noticed on 3 occasions now that when the alarm is going off and I try to hit snooze button or "dismiss" button and it's not available. So the alarm is going off and I'm frantically trying to find a button to shut it off. Pressing every button doesn't work so I have to finally shut the phone off. Has anyone else had this issue as well? I've tried to replicate it sitting in front of me a few minutes ago and I can't do it.On one occasion, I noticed that I got a text message when I was trying to find the "dismiss" button. NOt sure if the text message alert had something to do with it.

Thought some others might be interested in doing this if they haven't already. First off, you need root access to do this, and I am not responsible for any damage you may do to your device.
1. Download any font to your SD card. Make sure it is a TrueType font (most are) but double check anyway. Check out dafont.com for a huge selection of fonts.
2. Rename this font to Clockopia. Make sure the "C" is capitalized.
3. Now, open up Root Explorer (or any other file manager with root access) and navigate to system/fonts/.
4. Long click on Clockopia.ttf and copy it.
5. Paste it on your SD Card somewhere and rename it to something like Clockopia-Original. This way you always have a backup.
6. Now, long-click and copy your new downloaded Clockopia. Don't paste it anywhere yet.
7. Navigate back to system/fonts/ and press the "Mount R/W" button.
8. Long click on Clockopia.ttf and press "Delete"
9. Paste the new Clockopia in its place.
10. On the new Clockopia.ttf, long click and press "permissions". Check all the boxes under "Read" and the user box under "Write".

I woke up this morning to find that my Ally has the wrong time in the notification bar, as well as one of the widgets that i have for an alarm which shows when the next alarm comes up. however, the correct time shows in the weather widget. as it is Sunday morning, i looked up daylight savings and noticed that the clocks in Europe get set back an hour today. could my phone somehow be in European mode or something? maybe an android 2.1 glitch, since it came out after the last fall switch if I recall and therefore may not have been tested for a problem like this. I can't find an option to switch the clock manually anywhere, is there a way to fix this or do i just wait a week for the US daylight savings to click in?

I've had my htc hero (sprint) for about a month and half now and there has been a major problem i've been dealing with that i cant seem to find a solution to anywhere. everytime i reboot my phone, it wont work after the reboot. i cant get service, only wifi works, i cant access system updates, cant access my phone dialer. nothing works that requires date or service.
what i've tried to do is go to applications manager and ive been able to delete all the data from the google apps. this actually gave my phone service again after reboot, but i was never again able to sync my phone with google. meaning i couldnt get my contacts back, no gmail, and no market.
what ive been doing is having to do a complete hardware reset each time where i would then have to reset up my google account and re-download all my apps, needless to say this takes a lot of time each time. everytime i reboot, or when the battery drains, this happens.

I was interested in developing a clock widget for the homescreen and upon reading Home Screen Widgets tutorial, I wondered if there is a pre-existing Service I could reference for updating the current time rather than re-inventing the wheel?I download the Retro Clock application on my android phone and noticed that when I click it, it pops up the Alarm Clock settings, but with the default Google Analog Clock widget, upon click does nothing. Is that because the Retro Clock widget implements the Alarm Clock service? If so, how can I go about referencing that service? Or do I have this all wrong and misunderstood?

A while back I rooted, then promptly unrooted when I decided that the pros of the rooting world didn't outweigh the cons...I figured all was fine since my phone was soff.
lately what the november ota update came out I haven't been able to update. I accept the prompt and it says the update will be installed after the required reboot...after the counter counts down the phone doesn't reboot. I tried to clear the storage, I did a factory reset, then I even did the how to downgrade to factory 2.2 (http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/99828-video-howto-unroot-incredible-downgrading.html)...when I was prompted to update again the end result was the same....

What is the best way to let my users perform an application update?
Is there any way to force device reboot after the update? I'm asking this because my application registers some behavior on boot.
Please note, the application would not be published in the Market.
Update:
My app will be preinstalled on a set of ~100 handsets. Should I periodically call a webservice that will inform the device about upgrade available, and then, redirect to an .apk file within a webkit view?

i bought my wife a Cliq exactly 14 days ago. Since then I received some type of update within the first few days. After that it went downhill. The phone would turn off randomly and reboot (I deleted her apps and installed only ones that were trust worthy.etc), put calls on speaker phone while on the phone or just hang up (maybe bad proximity sensor) and some of the camera functions were no working (the only way for her to snap a pic was by touch. The side button wouldn't work). The lady was surprised that it was acting up at the corp store as she said " we never get these back" but hey, they took it hassle free.

"-Baseband Version VS740MVB.5210.1015: (new radio.img) Flash this just like a kernel. You must reboot into recovery once more after installing to wipe your cache. *Only flash once! I cannot be held liable for any damage caused to your device by flashing this!" If you back rev to Velocity 0.2 from Velocity 0.3, do you need to redo the Baseband update, or is it permanent?

I recently rooted my phone. That went fine, I got the fancy # prompt without too much trouble. So I installed ROM Manager and got the ClockworkMod Recovery img. When I hit reboot into recovery from ROM Manager it booted to the LG boot screen and wouldn't go anywhere past that. I freaked thinking I was bricked. I left my phone alone for like 4 or so hours and it was fine thankfully. So I pretty much stayed away from fancy stuff like that for the past week.
Then this new firmware update comes out.
My question is... If i install the new OTA update will I lose my root access? I've read about situations where people lose their root then gain it back, I'm just curious if this is the path I will have to follow.
I have a backup of my stock ROM with root access and I'm not running any custom ROMs.

My Ally updated Thursday with no issues. I have observed a noticeable increase in responsiveness. Noticeable! No app issues. I did uninstall some new apps it placed on my phone like Skype. Battery life seems to be as good or better than prior to the update. I'm a light user. A couple of calls per day, some internet (Dolphin HD) and some texting. I recharge it every other day when battery level gets down to about 30%. I use ADW.Launcher, Juice Defender, no app killer, a couple of low overhead widgets, Chomps SMS, Pandora, and not much else other than a few shortcuts. I do have a widget for airplane mode. I turn it on once a day then reboot and turn it back on.

I know you can rename outraces.zip to cancel the notification, but I have heard that makes the phone think the update is corrupt and it continuously tries to download it. I would like to have Velocity 0.2 on my phone but I cannot stand the constant nagging to update. I have tried flashing VZB and going back and the notifications still appear. Has anyone managed to stop the notifications?

I have my lg Ally with the new Jit kernel (Thanks Drellisdee), with Velocity 0.2 (Thanks Trident) and am overclocking at 768 mhz. I want to apply the new update, VZB, and then put velocity and the jit kernel back. So my thoughts are that I would have to...
1.) Backup rom/Apps/Data (Titanium Backup/ROM Manager)
2.) Go into Recovery (Clockworkmod) and make a nendroid backup.
3.) Wipe Dalvik, data, and cache.
4.) Install vzb via Drellisdee's rooted update (After i check md5)
5.) Then Apply Velocity 0.2
6.) Apply the kernel
7.) Restore data from titanium backup...
Is this what I would do? What about the ally's unofficial "V9" update that has to be installed manually... Is that worth it or should I just do VZB?
Also, do I need to go to a stock rom proior to the update?

Well so my phone tried to update to what I assume may have been Froyo but it failed due to the bug in the recovery 1.2.2 it would not accept a verified signature. I then went to go find the update again only to find out that my system claimed to be up to date and my phone was still at 2.1 update 1.
