LG Ally :: Battery Life Improvement
Oct 5, 2010Well my Ally's battery life sucks. I take it off charger at 6am. I go to school. Don't use it for a good 6 hrs. Return home. So what are some ideas for improving battery life?

View 3 RepliesMy phone all but died yesterday (see my other post) and was forced to do a factory reset. I went through and only re-installed apps that did not state about preventing the phone from sleeping. Most days I unplug my phone at 6am and its completely dead by 2pm. I unplugged today at 8am and at 2pm its at 75% to 80% (normally unplugging at 8 it would be at 30% at 2pm. I dont know if its the factory reset, or not installing apps that keep the phone from sleeping or what the deal is, but wow. My usage has been the same today if not more than normal cause of reinstalling my apps and re setting everything up from doing the reset. When I looked at my phone a few minutes ago to see if I have to do my normal afternoon recharge and it was still near full.
View 23 Replies View RelatedI've never had "bad" battery life but have always felt that the battery does die pretty quick. I'm text up to 100 texts a day tops, pretty heavy internet (checking work emails all day), a few phone calls here and there. Maybe some music here and there, nothing to justify the less than desirable battery life. Spare parts never showed anything out of line either. Rooting was something I had no desire to do (I tried it and found it useless for me). Like a few others, I'm patiently waiting for *whispers* THE UPDATE. Anyways I turned off Sense the other day and DRASTICALLY improved my battery life. Sense ON- wifi off, gps off, location off, mobile internet off. pretty much EVERYTHING off. By 1pm my battery was usually 50-60%. By 10pm my battery was dead. Sense OFF - wifi on and mobile internet on ALL DAY. Now by 5pm my battery is usually around 70%. Running music/HEAVY internet for the rest of the night leaves my battery at 35% by night end.
View 46 Replies View Related1st time poster so sorry if this has been discussed.I just got my LG Ally and have never owned a cell phone with such terrible battery life!I am coming from a Blackberry which would last me all day and night.I am lucky if my Ally gets me to noon w/o the 10% warning coming on.I go to settings and check my battery usage and I really don't know what to make of it.Yesterday it showed 93% battery use was from the Android system.Today it shows 81% is the Whoopee Cushion (app).I did use the Whoopee Cuchion app for about 3 minutes earlier today so why is that taking up 81%?I guess what I'm asking is - there anything to conserve battery life?Do I need to turn something off?Change a setting?I did take the advice of a friend and installed Advanced Task Killer but I have noticed NO difference in battery life since then.Any help would be greatly appreciated. And please keep it simple.like you're explaining it to a 5 year old.

View 8 Replies View RelatedHow long does your battery last? Mine dies out pretty quickly. Are there any apps or anything that can make it last longer? And is it just my phone(LG ALLY)? Thank you
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was one of those with a "bad" battery. I had the automatic 10% loss of the battery after about 20 minutes of the phone being on. I would barely use my phone during the day (check text messages and email 5 or 6 times and maybe 1 15 minute phone call, and 10-15 minutes of internet browsing) and have the battery down to 20-25% by the time i got home after an 8 hr workday. So I called verizon, explained the problem and they sent me a new stock dinc battery in 2 days. I will say that that when I first got my phone months (as a pre-order), I played with it before fully charging the battery. So maybe I am at fault for making a "bad" battery. No chances this time around. This time i cut the phone off, put the new battery in, and let it charge for a solid 8 hours. All I have to say is WOW. Now i know what it is like to be one of you guys who say "what battery problems?" I worked my 8 hr day, used the phone the same as I usually do and I still have 85% battery left. I never lost that intial 10% of the bat either. I don't know if not charging my battery properly the first time hurt my first battery or if I just had a bad one. But for all of you who get a new dinc, charge the battery right the first time is my advice.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI've got a number of particular questions, and having read all the threads I can find, there's still a couple of things i am not 100% on. 1. Would any micro USB 1A charger be safe to use with the phone? It's just I'd like to have a spare charger to take with me when at work/away on business, and having found that just USB from the PC is far to slow, I wanted to make sure it was ok? 2. Is regularly (daily) overnight charging ok? It's just that i have read it's not great to leave it on charge once it's full. That seems problematic to me if a overnight charge = 7 hours charging, but the phone only needs 3 hours to charge at least 90%. 3. I seem to get about 20-22 minutes of heavy usage (Wi-Fi on, browsing / using apps) to 10% of the battery at the moment. The phone is only 1 week old though, am I likely to see an improvement, and if so what sort of one?
View 4 Replies View RelatedBefore the update I would bring my phone to work at 100% and with moderate usage, maybe some Pandora/web browsing and it would be nearly dead by the time I brought it home 8-9 hours later. Or even at night lets say it was at 100% when I went to bed, I'd wake up without it plugged in 6-8 hours later and it would be down around 50% battery. Now the difference is almost night and day. In those same time periods I'm coming home from work now with 60-70% battery when I had 10-20% before. And in stand-by the phone hardly uses any battery, at most 1-2% per hour. I am now extremely satisfied with the battery use, it's much improved from the Palm Pre I came from. Also, before the update my phone was power cycling/resetting about every 10-20 mins. I would also experience times of extreme lag when trying to either open multiple apps at once or go through the menus very fast. I even had an an appointment setup at Sprint to have them look at the phone. However, once I applied the update the phone is much faster and I haven't experienced so much as a hiccup. Anyone else experiencing these positive changes?

do you think it would work for the Ally?
I use my Ally mainly as phone/email device and do just about 10 mins of browsing web a day. Under this kind of usage, battery level goes to about 50% after 12hrs from unplugging the charger. With some more browsing, it can get down to 33% easily in 12 hours. I guess it will be dead by 18 hours this way. I wonder how you guys batteries are doing compared to mine. I wish it lasts a bit longer than this.

View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone else find that their battery does best at like 60%-70% charged and when it gets below 40 it moves a lot quicker? Also I've done 3 full drain and full recharges so far and my battery has improved sloightly each time, do you reccomend I do it again or is that just bad for the battery?
View 4 Replies View RelatedBackground info:
- I'm running the "Battery Left" widget and I have it displaying "estimated percentage left", "system percentage", and "estimated time left until dead".
- I listen to A LOT of Slacker Radio.
My issues:
- I was previously getting about 19+ hours out of a fully charged battery. 2-3 days ago I started having issues with the widget (I think it may have started when I installed an update to the widget) so I recalibrated it to no avail. Then I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Within a few hours it claimed that it was getting accurate readings (when I first installed the widget weeks ago, it took days to get accurate) and now says that I should be getting 9 hours out of a fully charged battery. I know that can't be right so I'll see how the widget adjusts itself over the next few days, but, any thoughts? (I know a lot of you guys use the same widget and know how it works...)
- Also, In the first two hours of my phone being unplugged this morning, it went from 100% to 70%. I did run Slacker for about an hour and a half of that time, but could it really drain the battery that much that quickly? And I noticed that when I close Slacker, if I go into phone settings, applications, running services - there's still a Slacker update thing running in there. Could that be draining the battery too, even if it's only checking for updates?
- I really don't run a lot of stuff on this phone. I keep wifi and gps turned off. I use bluetooth only a few hours each night. Minimal web browsing. Although, my POP email gets checked every 5 mins (but I just changed it to every 10) and I do use gchat and text a decent amount, but I'd say overall, it's "light" use (except for Slacker which could be a huge drain, right?)
My battery life was bad, but it was OK, but in the past few days my battery life is 10% per 30minutes(Just over 5 hours on a charge).I used to get 8-10 hours on a charge.I noticed last week that while it was charging the status of the battery was "Overheat".I think I somehow cooked the battery?I use TaskKiller and kill 95% of apps automatically, I have bluetooth, wireless,GPS disabled and the screen dimmed.I have not changed or installed any new apps.I have not changed the way I use the phone at all.My battery was dead, 0%, and it charged to 95% in about 45 minutes. Is this even possible? In fact in the past two days I have not gotten the charge above 95% at all.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI rooted and put "Official Froyo HTC Sense ROM". Seems to work fine, however, I have a feeling that battery life is worse, especially when using the net. However, maybe it's just in my head. What are your experiences with battery life after upgrading to 2.2? And please, don't make silly "I surfed the web for 12 hours and still have 25% left" claims Also, I'm not interested in other ROMs, as I want a clean sense experience with no modifications (as close as possible to the way HTC made it)So - 2.2 and battery life: same, worse or better than on 2.1 that came with your Desire?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI can last a good 15 hours and still have like 50 percent. But when I don't use it the battery drains and barely lasts a day. I've been hearing that app killer is bad but if I don't use it I have no battery.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor those few whose battery life is actually not as good post-update have you figured out why yet? This is my first full day after doing the update last night and the battery is draining faster than it did before (even in standby). All settings are the same as before and I started with a 100 percent charge this morning. I am now down to 64% after 7 1/2 hours of light use. While that may sound like an improvement for some it actually isn't for me. Not a deal breaker but I would love to get my excellent battery life back (24-36 hours -- yes I am a light user especially when I am home a lot, which I am in the summer). The only thing different that I can see is that google talk doesn't stay disabled like it did before. Wifi is way down on the list of things using the battery and nothing seems out of place or not sleeping properly.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat started as a discussion over at XDA-Developers to try and resolve serious lag problems that some users experienced with their DHD is now proving to be a resolution to most of the problems reported with this device. Apparently turning 'usb debugging mode' ON is the resolution. The thread was first started by a user who noticed that whenever he was experiencing lag issues an Android process called /INIT was taking anywhere from 70% to 100% of his CPU usage. /INIT is a core process to the Android bootup sequence which should go 'dormant' after the bootup itself. What many users noticed after this was found is that whenever the lag problems started /INIT would take some 90% of the phone's CPU usage and not go back to its 'dormant' state. Even when the phone was idle and not being used. After applying the fix many people are reporting the phone running as smooth as they have even seen it running. Also users are reporting that recording video is no longer jerky and they can browse through the gallery smoothly and with no delays. The more relevant yet, and what may prove to be the best contribution from all this, is that some users are now reporting really amazing battery life performance. Its important to say that the so-called 'bug' doesnt seem to be HTC related but rather an Android 2.2 issue, as the performance issues are also being reported on other handsets running the latest Google OS - with some sources reporting that Google is soon to release an update to Froyo 2.2, possibly to resolve this bug. In order to turn 'usb debugging mode' ON go to: menu >> settings >> applications >> development.
