Nov 15, 2013I don't have KitKat yet, but I was reading the dialpad doesn't automatically pop up when you hit the phone button. Is there a way to automatically make the dial pad pop up instead of the search? If I want to search for a phone number I'll go into the internet. When I click on the phone icon I want the dialpad to be there. If there isn't a way to fix this then I might not upgrade my phone when the time comes to upgrade.

Feb 2, 2013I have a galaxy nexus and I am wondering if there is a way to permanently hide the Softkeys whilst retaining the status bar (yes I know about expanded desktop). I use LMT's PIE feature to navigate and I find it much more useful. I personally like PIE better so I have more screen space.

May 15, 2010So I just got the Swype beta, and I have a small problem. If I ever decide to cancel typing (say I have text input open and the Swype keyboard is covering the bottom half of my screen) the keyboard stays open and I have to tap home again for it to disappear. Are there any workarounds for this or is it simply because its beta? I noticed that even if I revert back to the default Sense keyboard it does the same thing.

Aug 23, 2012I've created an app that plays kids videos from YouTube that I've found to be appropriate for children (hasn't been published yet). I've currently searched and found 60+ videos that would be ok and the list would certainly increase over time.
The app doesn't use the YouTube player so that the child cannot find inappropriate videos after watching their selection. Using the back button will only get them back to the app and when the video is done playing it will also return to the app. The app wouldn't have ads either. So, it is a little safer way to turn a kid loose allowing them to watch videos.
General :: In KitKat WiFi And GPS Doesn't Turn Off Sometimes
Mar 13, 2014Once you have turned on GPS, when you turn it off later, sometimes it doesn't really turn-off even if the quick setting tile says it is turned off.
[EXAMPLE]
I turned GPS on, opened Tinder, used it for few minutes, closed it and turned off GPS, removed Tinder from recent apps.
Next night, I see Tinder is the top battery consumer, with 1 day 9 hours of GPS use. GPS shows up as ON the entire time in the battery graph; while GPS tile is "off" in quick settings as well as locations services is also set to off.

I had seen exactly similar GPS hogging from Facebook and Maps too.
This exact same thing happens with Wi-Fi too. I had turned off Wi-Fi at night before going to sleep. But after returning from work the next day, I see in the battery graph that the Wi-Fi was on for the entire 17+ hours. And it still showed as "Off" in Quick settings tile and Wi-Fi settings page. The Wi-Fi definitely wasn't ON since as soon as I turned it on via QuickSetting tile, I got a flood of notifications. But there was considerable amount of battery drain, which is unusual when everything is off. Makes me think that the Wi-Fi was in fact ON. So, when I had turned Wi-Fi off at night, the phone only disconnected from the hotspot but still remained on.

Aug 3, 2010Since upgrading to FroYo, the stock youtube app doesn't work correctly. Most of the time I can't hear any sound at all no matter what setting the media volume is set to. The times I can hear sound it isn't audible and very very quiet. Does anyone else have this problem?

I thing is, that my time in recovery mode is different... is there a possibillity to change the time in recovery? But is this really important ?It worked before without a specific recovery time.
HTC Hero :: Gmail Application Doesn't Refresh Automatically
Jan 28, 2010I've got the weirdest problem ever with my HTC Hero.The gmail application does not refresh automatically so as to fetch incoming e-mail. Even worse, it doesn't even do that when I manually do that (menu --> refresh)There is one situation: If I change one of the settings for Labels ("description = select which labels are syncronised") it does fetch e-mail from my inbox, but only if I manually refresh. It doesn't make any sense that my gmail application can only fetch new mails after a (random) modifcation in my settings. I would like my gmail to refresh .... well.. as often as possible and automatically, since I will not know beforehand when someone has sent me a mail.
For the moment my label settings are as follows:days for syncronisation: 1 day
labels
inbox: syncronise for all items
with star: syncronise for all items
eehh. well actually all my folders are "syncronise for all items"

When I go to the YouTube app and click on any video displayed, the message is Cannot play video. Sorry, this video cannot be played. The videos that I took with my phone and are stored on my SD are playing OK.

I am finding I have to physically go into my settings, data synronization, and manually sync my mail for anything new to show up.Whats up? Is there a specific time limit set somewhere for when it checks for new mail?

I get so few that it would be better for me to be able to simply do a "manual" check when I want, rather than have the phone check all the time. Jun 10, 2010I've only just noticed an issue that after disconnecting from wifi my phone doesn't automatically go back to 3G/2G.
I have to turn the wifi back on and when it can't find one only then does it decide to connect to 3G/2G.
Didn't have this issue before and I'm thinking the latest update (1.31.405.5) has something to do with it.
Anybody else having similar issues?
BTW I'm on the vodafone UK network.

Apr 8, 2010I have a simple list view with some check boxes in an alert dialog. I need to option to add a select all/none but you can't bring up the menu in an alert dialog, and I want to do this function from a button. From what I've seen any kind of button (positive, neutral, and negative) all close the dialog regardless.
So, is this possible? If no, what alternatives do I have? My last mitigation is to simply create a new view and recreate everything. Is a new view the best solution?

Sep 14, 2010So when I get texts, gmail, completed app downloads, etc I get notification icons at the top as usual. When I slide the notification bar down to reveal the nofications and click on an item, the notification screen doesn't hide back to the top of my phone -- it just stays open. I either have to hide it manually or I have to hit the back button, which sometimes exits the app I was trying to open. 2.1 never did this for me, it always hid when choosing an item. Anyone have a solution to this? I've done a factory reset after 2.2 btw. I've also searched support to see if there was a similar problem, no similar threads.
