Android : Button On An AlertDialog That Doesn't Automatically Close Dialog / Fix It?

I have a simple list view with some check boxes in an alert dialog. I need to option to add a select all/none but you can't bring up the menu in an alert dialog, and I want to do this function from a button. From what I've seen any kind of button (positive, neutral, and negative) all close the dialog regardless.
So, is this possible? If no, what alternatives do I have? My last mitigation is to simply create a new view and recreate everything. Is a new view the best solution?

I feel a little bit silly asking this, but I haven't been able to find any answers on my own. My Force Close dialog has a "Report" button. I think it's a great idea, and I wish everyone had it. At first, I thought it must be something I turned on without realizing it, but not only can't I find any setting that I might have touched, I also can't find any reference to this button existing on the Internet. I have a Droid, and I know 4 other people with Droids, and they say they don't have the option to report Force Closes. Am I special? Am I just missing something? The "report" button has been there for at least a few weeks now.When I use the Report button, I get a screen with a "feedback" field and a checkbox for "Include system data". Below that , it says "Information from feedback reports will be shown to the developer of the application." Under that are Preview and Send buttons.As a developer, I've never received one of these reports.I'd try to send a report to myself, but it seemingly only shows the button for apps installed from the market, and I don't know of a way to crash my production app.I suppose I could publish a simple crashing app just to try it out, but I thought I'd ask you folks first.Edit:You can view screenshots here: http://bentobin.com/crashReportImages/

the problem is that this button doesn't exit of my app... it simply closes the current intent ant returns to the previous intent (window) of my app.... how i can do a real exit/close button? i tryed with this:

but it doesn't works, because when i turn back into my app, the app comes in the last opened window, and not in the first window of the app, how i can do that? i need that when i re-open my app it starts on the first window of my app

I don't have KitKat yet, but I was reading the dialpad doesn't automatically pop up when you hit the phone button. Is there a way to automatically make the dial pad pop up instead of the search? If I want to search for a phone number I'll go into the internet. When I click on the phone icon I want the dialpad to be there. If there isn't a way to fix this then I might not upgrade my phone when the time comes to upgrade.

I have a dialog with edittext for input. when i click yes button on dialog, it will validate the input and then close dialog. However, if the input is wrong, i want to remain in the same dialog. every time no matter what input it is, the dialog always automatically close when i click button. How can i disable this. I need to build a AlertDialog with a short text ("A") and an OK Button. But if I use AlertDialog.Builder, the "ok" text button is not shown with a short text message. I tried to recover the Button object and set the layout to wrap_content. But when I try to use getButton function, it returns me null.

When I try to set the Alert using ArrayAdaptor to display a set of items, the list is displayed but the items' characters are invisible. If the item is selected, then the characters are visible. Scratching

I'm trying to create a basic AlertDialog using an activity with a theme of Theme.Dialog.What I want is for there to be a horizontal bar between the title and the message. However, the bar is not being resized correctly. Rather than being the width of the activity, the bar is the width of the message text. This means that if the activity is being expanded by the message, then the bar will fill the whole activity, so it looks correct. However, if the message width is less than the activity width, the bar only displays above the part of the activity with the text. I've tried every single combination of "fill_parent" and "wrap_content" that I can think of, and none of those work.I've also tried using RelativeLayout and placing the bar above the message text, but that also doesn't work. If I use the RelativeLayout approach and set the bar to fill_parent, it causes the activity to expand to fill the whole screen width, which is also undesirable. Ideally, I want the text placed, the activity width computed, and the bar resized to that width (without affecting it). Is there some way to flag a view to fill the parent view but not to affect its size?

I am trying to figure out what is the best way to go about creating dialogs. I can either create my own Dialog class (which, to me, is more clean and organized), or I can use AlertDialog.Builder (which would be done inline, and funky looking)... What are the positivies and negatives of either implementation?

I am sure that everybody can easily recur the problem I am facing. There is a Spinner in the view, which includes a few entries. When I click the Spinner, it pops up a dialog so user can choose an entry. All these are very normal and you can find such things in SDK's API demo. The problem is: when the dialog is still on focus, if you change the phone's orientation, an exception will be thrown. Something like this:

In my current application I want to show a dialog having "Force Close" and "Report" option at the time of Unhandled Exception. Could anyone please let me know how to have this dialog? right now if I change default Exception Handler to mine It gets control but I am not able to show any dialog after that. I guess UI thread is already closed by the time handler gets control.

I currently pop up a custom dialog with an EditText in it. Currently the keyboard will only pop up when the user clicks "into" the EditText.
Is it possible to get the keyboard to pop up for the EditText as soon as the Dialog loads?
I have tried:
editText = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.EditTextd); editText.setFocusable(true); editText.requestFocus();
But it hasn't worked. Has anyone any ideas?

I'm launching a webbrowser via an intent, which allows my app user to login to Google Docs in a 2-legged oauth dance. This works fine, and the browser callback comes to my app with the right authentication string.
I just want to be able to kill that browser window once we are done - having it sitting there is confusing and messy.

I'm very new to Android so I've been working primarily with information from the android developer's page. Everything was going great until I added the code from the alert dialog section. The code they give alone gives me an error when I try to run it on the last line, saying I must initialize dialog, but I feel like I'm getting the NullPointerException no matter what the case is.If I don't instantiate "dialog" to "null" at the beginning, I cannot run the program. I'm not even trying to do anything crazy yet, any help would be great because I'm having alot of trouble trying to figure out what exactly this code is trying to do.

I want a way or an app to close an opened app completely when I press back button on my phone.It is mean that I don't wan this app to go to the recent open apps list.I don't want to enter the recent app list to closed app every time by sweeping. I'm using Samsung galaxy s2 plus with CM11.

My speech recognition app needs to work without human intervention, so the situations where the "No speech heard" or the "No matches found" dialogs come up and require a button press are a problem.
Is there a way to prevent this dialog from displaying?
Is there a way to programming perform the button click?

Suddenly, my android phone have trouble with the issue that some of Applications close automatically right after launching, especially right after I reboot phone. What are the cause ?
After reboot, my phone still has about 200MB RAM free. however, after reboot about 1 or 2 minutes if I open Facebook,/xda,/viber ...it will automatically close immediately and back to home screen. BUT if I take the phone rest about 15mins, it becomes operating normally. No trouble with the issue that some of Applications close automatically right after launching anymore. So I don't know what's happen.

I have an application with an activity A which creates an activity B (in theme dialog). I push the button in my activity B to finish it, i come back on activity A, it is ok. Then I press the button return on my G1, i go back on my home screen. And now if i do a long press on the home button, and i click on my application, it is the activity B which appears ! Being new to the Android, I was wondering if there is a program out there that will close your application permanently once you're finished with it? I know Task Killer is out there, and use it quite frequently, but I'm noticing that when I get out of DroidLive, Google Maps, etc. they stay running in the back ground and the phone will start to get sluggish.
Also on Bootup the phone boots Facebook and Google Maps. Any way to disable this?

I am using the Stock ROM, My mobile is rooted.
I am also using GO Launcher EX and Go Locker.
Each time i lock my phone and keep it for a while ( 15 minutes or more i think ) The Facebook Messengers and Whatsapp's Background service closes automatically, which lead that i don't receive any notifications.
BUT .. When i unlock the phone the service restart and opens again, but this made me lose many conversations because i didn't receive the notification. And Here is a test i made :
1- Lock the phone
2- keep messaging periodically my phone and i kept receiving notifications for long time ( 1 hour + )
3-but when i stopped sending myself messages and the phone was idle for 15min+ then i messeged my phone again, no notifications were received
4-after i unlock the phone and then i instantly gone to "Running Service tab" to check the service i found them " Restarting".
5-after they finished their restart i received the missed notifications.
Note : I Don't have any Auto-Task killer applications ( i had before but uninstalled it )

I would like the users of my android app to have the option to email me the stacktrace of any uncaught exception that crashes my app. Originally I thought I would just wrap every entry point to my app in a try/catch block, but there are far too many of these even in my tiny app for this to be reasonable.So what I am really looking for is a way to specify some method to be the default handler for any uncaught exceptions.
