HTC Incredible :: Won't Install New Apk
Sep 21, 2010
I searched and couldn't find an answer. I'm trying to install a different version of genie.apk than the one that came from the OTA 2.2. I uninstalled the stock version, and now when I try to install the new one through root manager, or astro, it says that application wasn't installed.

So the other day I went to download an app out of the market. The download finished, but it seems my phone decided to auto-reboot itself in the midst of the installation. After the reboot completes, I go back to the market, reselect the app, and it's hung at "Installing..." (And when I say "hung," the market is still fully functional except that one app). I'm given no option to cancel the installation. Killing the market app then trying to go back in has no effect - same deal. Hung on install. Another reboot didn't help.
Is there any way to delete the install package and make the market forget I even tried in the first place?
It's Angry Birds (wanted to see what all the fuss was about), but the install seems to have failed in a way that any app install could have failed.

So I tried searching but "s-off" doesn't search well on this forum. What does it mean? I keep reading how it affects your ability to install the OTA update, etc.. How do you use/install it?

I tried to install the 2.2 mms.apk onto my rooted 2.1 just because I like it better. After reboot, only a missing shortcup appears! No trace of the messaging app anywhere. Anyone have the stock 2.1 mms.apk and mms.odex?

I always have gotten great help here - and for all the talk of wiping dalvik and other caches, I haven't found a straight forward guide for now to prepare my phone for installation of a new kernel.I've been on skyraider awhile, and put King BFS 4 on. I'd like to go to the new BFS 5 and see if it improves the battery life. Can someone point me toward a simple guide of how to prepare the phone for a new kernel? I know how to install it. What caches need to be wiped? Can it be done through clockwork? I've already done the nandroid backup.

I had the Droid X keyboard installed on my Incredible, but I can't remember how I did it. With the update today, the keyboard is not working, so I uninstalled it. I got an apk file that is supposed to work on 2.2 downloaded onto my SD card, but I don't know what to do next to install the app. It's a zipped file. When I click on it (I'm using Linda File Manager), I get 2 folders. Can someone tell me what I should do next to install this keyboard. I can't live without it. It's so much better than the stock and I can't get used to Swype (which I also installed, but can't remember how).

I rooted my phone using the new unrevoked, and then installed the 'Google Apps (froyo)' ROM from the ROM Manager. Clearly this wasn't the right thing to do. So when I restart, it's still sense UI with 2.1. Google apps keeps force closing, preventing me from adding my google account, and in turn having the marketplace. So I have no way of downloading the rom manager and reinstalling my old ROM. I did create a backup ROM. Though if I get the ROM Manager and can install 2.2, I don't see why I would need this. So I guess my trouble stems from the google apps force closing.

To install jager's froyo rom does my Incredible need root? Or can I simply install it. According to what I have encountered I do not have sufficient permissions to run the "update.zip" for the rom. Can anyone help?

I have a Droid Incredible on the way and it should be here in about 2 weeks *crosses fingers*.I want to get all the software I will need downloaded ahead of time, and I am confused about the order in which to do things.I have previously rooted and installed roms on my wife's Motorola Droid so I am somewhat familiar with the process. My plan is to have a rooted and OTA updated Incredible running 2.1 until there are 2.2 roms that function well with the camera. What I need to know is what order to install things. Do I install the leaked OTA update and then root?Is the OTA update officially out yet, and if so should I just wait for that to download and install before rooting?

I am trying to figure out what the advantage is to installing to the SD rather than to built in storage.Since my phone has 8GB of internal storage, apps are small, and videos/music are big, wouldn't it make more sense to install the apps to the internal memory, and store media to a 32GB micro sdhc?

Is it as simple as placing the zip file in SD root, restarting the phone in recovery mode, and install the zip?
Are backups needed for just patches?
I am aware of one patch so far for froyo and it's http://adrynalyne.stfuthxbye.net/n_patches/stagefright2.zip
Is there a different patch I should be looking at?

Is there anyone that can give me step by step instructions on how to use hboot to install files from the root directory on my sd card. Ex.
This is what I did: I downloaded Clockworkmod 2.5.0.5, renamed the Clockworkmod zip to PB31IMG.zip, and placed it on the root of my SD card. Power-off, and boot into HBOOT (pressing the down vol+power button).
Then I downloaded Superuser 2.3.6.1 and place it on the SD card, use Clockworkmod Recovery and choose "Install .zip from SD" option.
Restarted my phone, and there's Superuser."
I have tried going through hboot and never see these files once I have installed them on the SD card.

I have read conflicting things, so I come to the experts. My phone is on hboot 0.77 - is this OK to install the OTA 2.2? I have read that 0.77 may send the phone into an endless boot loop if you install Froyo.

Anyone else install the latest 2.2 (released 8/1) I believe. I notice now flash is not working even after installing flash showcase. Doesn't bother me being that this is leaked beta just wanted to see if anyone noticed. Can this be moved to the 2.2 ROM area.

Please note that this can and will void your warranty and while no ill effects have been suffered, I nor this forum can be held responsible with what you decide to do with your phone. Use at your own risk! Warning! Under no circumstance should you reapply this patch over itself. I have seen two phones die over this. Dead as in, no power, no charge, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars. Go directly to jail! I also recommend that you Do Not accept any official OTA while running this leak. It could lead to the same end result. Instead, its best you root, downgrade the HBOOT, and reflash with an RUU. First of all, make sure you are not rooted. So this means you will need to use an RUU (ROM Update utility) to revert your phone back to stock. You can get it from here:
http://tinyurl.com/22rotth
Run through the RUU. If you run into trouble with usb connection errors, or other troubles, you can try these suggestions. Having troubles with the RUU giving connection errors? Do this.
Go to start, and in the search/run box, type
%temp%
Delete all that you can. Make sure the RUU is not running in the background. Now run the RUU again. Once it starts to the first screen, it has extracted the files to the temp directory. You can then copy them to a safe place. It will be a long winded numbered folder, with a similar subfolder. Once you have copied it to a safe place, you can then copy adb.exe, fastboot.exe, and adbwinapi.dll from the latest SDK into it, overwriting the older copies. Then start the RUU by executing ARUWizard.exe. This fixed the problem for me.
Otherwise, you can also use the extracted files to create an image that HBOOT can load. Search for rom.zip in those files and rename it to PB31IMG.zip and put it on your sdcard. Turn off your phone and then hold DOWN volume and power to get into the HBOOT screen. Let it scan through the files and when it asks to run update, say yes and let it do its thing. It will reboot at least once during update. Once you are back to stock, you can now provide the leaked update. MD5 hash is 68518f450fd4b15c696441f5f93deff4. Link can be found here:
dinc_ota.zip
or
http://www.4shared.com/file/ON3qK3n0/dinc_ota.html
Copy this zip file to your sdcard, renaming it to update.zip. Now power down your phone. Hold DOWN volume and power to get to HBOOT. It will do its scanning thing. If you still have the RUU on there, say NO to updating and NO to rebooting. Once you get to the menu with fastboot, recovery, etc. choose Recovery. This will boot you to the stock recovery with an image with an! Hold UP volume and hit power. This will take you into the recovery menu. Choose apply update.zip, navigating with volume keys and hit the power button. Let it do its thing. It will then say reboot to finish. Navigate to reboot and hit the power button. Let it finish. It will reboot several times during the update.
That's the easy part of installing it. You can also root it with unrevoked tools (3.1 is the latest). Having Market Issues?

It is recommended you do NOT install any third party kernels until new source has been released.
Going back is NOT as easy and I will list this in another thread located here:

I woke up this morning to have a 2.2 system update available, but I don't wanna lose root by installing it. First of all I rooted using mejdam 10 minute root on youtube and I originally only wanted it for the flashlight and the WiFi tether, I rely on my WiFi tether now and well I want 2.2 also, I've never nandroid backup my phone or anything like that I just rooted and left it. What should I do now that I wanna install 2.2 and keep root? What would be the steps of going about this.

So I did the 2.2 OTA update yesterday and now it has screwed up my phone. My question is, can I wipe my phone and start over? Can I install 2.2 RUU? My phone has all kinds of bugs now, including but not limited to:
-Cannot get on the internet, browsers close after a few seconds
-Cannot get on Pandora
-Swype does not work, even after reinstall. I cant download new version because I cannot get on the internet because of the browser issue.
-Menu button no longer unlocks the phone This is awful, my android device is now just a phone.

So a question for anyone using touchdown. Does it matter which version you install? I see "Exchange for Android 2.0/2.1" and "Exchange by Touchdown". I would assume I should use the former, but there seem to be more 2.1/2.2 users on the latter.

Installed the IS on 2 incredibles this evening.Everything went well, they look great. Just a few tiny bubbles that should dry up.The phones have been "resting" for about 6 hours now. I plan on waiting the full 24 hours before i put the batteries back in and turn them on. I started reading some posts on other forums about how people have messed up their phones with water damage after installing the IS. Just wanted to see if anyone was having any trouble after installing the IS.I tried not to use alot of water, but there was some water coming out from under the IS when i was squeegeeing the bubbles out.Going to be a worrisome 24 hrs.
