HTC Incredible :: If Froyo Added To Final Update What About TESTERS Phones?
Jul 21, 2010there are test phones out there and from what I can tell they have had the 720p OTA update for about the last month now. But what will happen if froyo is added into the final update? I would expect they would be in the same shape as many of us rooters now with the leaked version. Just thinking ahead if we will be able to install another leaked or modified version of the update over what we have now and just have it add froyo since testers are not going to be able to roll back what they have already on their end.

Sep 1, 2010I followed the instructions posted on here yesterday to unroot my phone - worked fine. The superuser and and wifi tether are now gone. I went in this morning to try to manually install the froyo update from android and me, and when trying to run it, I get the following:

HTC Incredible :: Hotspot Froyo Custom Install
Aug 30, 2010I am a new member here, just joined a few days ago. I've had my HTC Incredible (Verizon) for about 2-3 weeks and so far I love it. I've been reading these forums every day, multiple times a day ever since I joined here a few days ago, but haven't posted anything yet. I remember the first day I joined here I saw a thread that was discussing a custom Froyo ROM that you could install on your phone that would NOT root your phone. However, I also saw one that allowed free hotspot tethering, that didn't accrue any charges from Verizon Wireless, unless I am mistaken, but I beleive I did read that someone where on here. I'm not looking for someone to walk me through how to install, or root the phone or anything like that, I understand all the inns and outs of doing that.....I provide PC technical support for a living, working on my B.S. degree in Computer Science, so I'm pretty fluent in the technical aspects of working the phone and rooting and all of that, I was just trying to have someone point me in the right direction to the Foryo update.zip/rom that you could install on your phone that would do the following two options:1. I would prefer the version that doesn't root the phone, but instead just installs, if I have to end up rooting the phone that's fine, I would just prefer not to only because of possibly voiding the warranty, not because I'm afraid of screwing it up haha, I feel perfectly comfortable doing it if I must.2. I read one of these allowed free hotspot tethering and also got rid of Verizon's bloatware as well, I don't know if all of these are found all in one custom rom, but if they are that would be great if you could point me in the direction where I can download it at.

Aug 24, 2010Why does the Inc have to be rooted in order to install Froyo? My Motodroid1 was able to install a leaked Froyo without having to root. Is there something more difficult in the software that the Inc uses or is it the actual leaked versions were never designed for an Incredible or what? I really don't understand why we seem to be lagging the Motodroid community in being able to install this. I'm sure someone has a perfectly good explanation and I obviously don't have a clue. I am a newbie with the Inc and I did love my Droid1 until it got run over and no replacements were available. I have to say that so far I am not that impressed with my Incredible. It's slimmer, I rarely used the slide out keyboard on the Droid 1-so I don't miss that, a few things seem to respond a little quicker, but overall I liked my old Droid1 better. The 2.2 I forced on the Droid was a huge improvement over 2.1. The 3d gallery glitches were gone, the mass updates were great, camera worked super. Battery life was always excellent, pics were clear, no dropped calls, always had a signal. Output volume to headphones was a little weak on a motorcycle but I solved that with a nice little pocket amp. I don't mean to knock our phones but... I never had to worry about battery life, poor signal strength,etc. And I miss the 3D gallery after the fix but I did find a thread here to help me install it in the Inc. When 2.2 gets here it should be a nice improvement but I wish battery life wasn't an issue and signal strength was better. I don't feel like spending some pretty good change for a high output battery.

- Hit Menu and Commit Changes

I feel like that's a major newb question but just wanted to make sure. If that's the case, can somebody list or point me to the procedure to do the wireless N hack using the recovery tool? Just read in the thread below how some users might be having problems with wireless teather after doing the "N" hack. If this is the case, perhaps it's best to skip it altogether.

Nov 11, 2010So I have been rooted for sometime but haven't played with any ROMS yet until I finally got tired of waiting for Nov OTA and realized virtuous 3.1 has implemented the updates already.I figure a new post regarding this rom was warranted and hadn't seen anything in AF INC yet.1st thing to note. If you have been pondering this update and not doing it because you will have wipe the phone, Virtuous does not require a wipe and when you install the ROM you will have all your old data.I thought this was cool, especially for when the next updates come through such as new Sense build as well as Gingerbread.I did have one question for any other virtuous users.

Aug 14, 2012From the online articles and the encryption description i was left with the impression that i will need to enter the password only on boot.Well appears that once encrypted the only active unlock options become, face unlock, pin and password.All take too long for my daily use, and since you don't have to use the encryption password for unlocking (the phone is decrypted on boot) but other options like face unlock, why we can't unlock with the normal slider screen or at least pattern unlock?Is there a way to go around it and enable the slider unlock on an encrypted phone?
i know that decreases the security, but knowing that if i lose my phone, chances are the battery will die, and they will need to decrypt it then...

Thought i'd post here since i know alot of you tried to switch out your order for the droid x.Waited since june 4th for my incredible to get here by my promised ship date of 6/25. 6/25 passed and while calling to bitch about the wait, they said i could swap out my order for a droid x. That i could just have them cancel my incredible order and preorder the x. I did it. She said she didn't have a confirmation number for my preorder or anything but that she would text it to me the next day (this was sunday, so the text would've come monday). Well, it never came. So i called verizon last night to confirm my preorder of the x and they said they saw it in the system and all was good.
Just a few minutes ago i got an email saying my droid incredible has finally shipped. WTF?! The incredible was all i could think about for weeks and weeks and it didn't ship. Now that i have another phone in mind, it finally decides to ship? So i call 611 and she tells me i can reject the shipment, BUT...that "the other reps that told me i had a preorder for the x were wrong. I don't. Because nobody can preorder the x from verizon and that i'd have to wait until it's release on july 15th to order it."what the hell is going on? I'm gonna call verizon back a couple more times and see if i get different answers. But really, their inconsistencies are giving me a headache
HTC Droid Eris :: Users Upgrade To Incredible?
Apr 28, 2010I came from a Moto RZR a few months ago to be an early adopter of the Nexus 1. Soon found that tMobile didn't cut it coverage wise so I returned it. However, I really loved the OS and so I decided to wait for the N1 to come to VZW.Not being able to wait for the N1 I bought an Eris for $10 and signed up for a 2-yr contract. During the couple months or so with the Eris I flashed both leaks. My Eris was working very good indeed with few problems.I then pre-ordered and received the Incredible today. It is a sweet phone however, this is the point I want to make. Once the official 2.1 is available, the Eris is and will continue to be one fine phone. If speed is your cup of tea then upgrade but just realize you'll be able to do the exact same thing on your Eris so think twice before you take the plunge.This is in no way a buyer's remorse statement as I really wanted the speed and it is nice to have everything functioning as it should. I'm sure there will be problems. Remember, the Eris will work just as well in the future minus the speed.

Sep 2, 2010How exactly do I add devices to the allowed users list? I tried to connect my ipod touch and a notification came up and said a device wanted to connect. I pressed the notification and it brought me to the manage users screen but the options were greyed out.

Apr 30, 2010Id love to see how it feels to instantly get "leap view" w/ one hit of the home button. I find it hella annoying that i have to go to the main home screen before i can go to the on that i want.
Don't know if this can be don't w/out Root. Hopefully, one of us knows of an app that can do it already.
Or maybe someone can code/hack it. just reverse the order. make one tap go to leap view, and two taps go to main home.
HTC Incredible :: Phone Reboot During App Install - Can't Finish Or Cancel Install
Oct 22, 2010So the other day I went to download an app out of the market. The download finished, but it seems my phone decided to auto-reboot itself in the midst of the installation. After the reboot completes, I go back to the market, reselect the app, and it's hung at "Installing..." (And when I say "hung," the market is still fully functional except that one app). I'm given no option to cancel the installation. Killing the market app then trying to go back in has no effect - same deal. Hung on install. Another reboot didn't help.
Is there any way to delete the install package and make the market forget I even tried in the first place?
It's Angry Birds (wanted to see what all the fuss was about), but the install seems to have failed in a way that any app install could have failed.

May 24, 2010Currently I am using a blackberry tour and soon I will have the incredible. What is the easiest way to transfer contacts and whatever else possible to the incredible? Thought of desktop manager but that is only good when transferring to another blackberry. I know i could probably just bring it to Verizon but if i don't have to thats great too.

Jun 10, 2010So, i have been doing some reading, but cannot find any solid answers that really pertain to us. Right now, our phone's screens are beautiful, but i am wondering how long we can expect them to stay that way. In regards to #1, it is a worry given how static some of the things on our screens are, like the top right chunks of the notification bar. The 3G icon, signal bars, and time (especially AM/PM) don't change that much, and seem like a good candidate for burn-in. In reading, i think i even found a few people that said the "M" in AM/PM was already burning in. Short of rooting, is there anything that can change the bar to help it avoid burn in? In regards to two, i know that the AMOLED pixels will fade over time, especially blue first. Is there any documentation on just how long these Sammy OLED's will actually last?

Aug 25, 2010I'm a little confused toward this one. People seem to have really varied reports about certain kernels and ROMs and whatnot working on their phones. For some, King's #1-3 are either really stable or completely unusable. Same goes for the Hydra kernels, or Skyraider, or Cyanogen.
But I don't get WHY this is the case. Take two Incredibles off of the HTC line and somehow they react differently to the same pieces of software. How's that work?

May 30, 2010Just got a new replacement. I never knew how PINK my screen was until I compared my old phone (which I got at launch day) with another unit side by side. Finally after 2 weeks wait I got a new replacement today and the screen is perfect now. Not even a slight amount of pink screen (other than on the rare gray shades). I thought my phone had only a mild case of "pink screen" but the comparison shot with the new replacement is shocking. I had no idea how BAD it was with the screen at low to medium brightness. Could this be the cause of AMOLED shortage. Its obvious HTC deemed these pink screens acceptable and now with so many returns are rejecting them because the new phones coming in are perfect. I HIGHLY recommend testing your phone with the new units coming in and compare at low brightness. If WHITES like on googles homepage have even a SLIGHT amount of pink hue at low brightness, return your phone.
