View 2 RepliesI believe the 'Package Installer' is the thing that allows me to install apps?
I've only just noticed it in my 'manage applications' - I'm sure it never used to appear at the top of the list - and I'm tight on memory - so when it takes up 13mb as it does now I'm a bit stuck.
Can I click 'clear data' on it - or will that remove apps? There is no option to clear cache - all 13mb is listed in the Data.
installing an Android app without using the package installer.
Is there any way of installing an app through any other means than clicking on the .apk file in the folder?
Would it be possible to manually extract the apk archive and move the files to appropriate folders somewhere in /root/?
I have some problem installing my apk file in code. Wondering if anyone could find out what I did wrong.
What I was trying to do is put a Check Upgrade function in our program. When user clicks it, it will send request to our web server and find out what is the latest version. I use app versionName to stamp a version, something like 2010.11.23. I don't use the version code in Manifest.xml file. So our program sees the latest VersionName is later than itself, it will download the latest one, and then use the following code to install the new apk file:
CODE:........
Now looks like, everytime when I changed the VersionName, it will fail to install the apk file. It downloads the file fine. I don't know exactly why. Sometimes, in Eclips, when I hit debug, I got error saying "Re-installation failed due to different application signatures". I don't know if this is the same error caused the installation failed.
So, looks like my questions are:
Should that upgrade logic work? I am wondering if it has something to do with the VersoinName.
What could cause the application signature change? (I did sign our program before I put it on our server, but I always use the same key file for different versionName. )
A customer wrote me that his upgrade of my app would not install and gave the following error: package isnot signed correctly The install worked find for me but I was getting a lot of bad reviews because of this error and I removed the app. How is this possible; you can't upload an app to Google Markets without it being signed correctly?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was able to successfully setup a POP account through the Setup Screen...in fact when I go back through Setup, I still see the account. The problem is I can't DO anything with it in setup (including deleting it to start over) and it doesn't show up in my Apps window with an icon! I see it on the setup screen labeled "Setup Accounts" but no matter if I tap it or hold it or swipe it or try to hit the menu key, it just sits there. There is a green button with the checkmark in it. I guess what I would think i ought to be able to do is to assign it an icon (or even get a generic one) and find the account listed on my app screen...I'm willing to reset it, but I can't even delete it to start!
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy .apk file is confirmed working, however for users of the Motorola Milestone (which runs the same android version 2.0 and up) they receive the error upon attempt to install. I've googled and searched through the other questions here. The error seems to normally only appear if you did something wrong in the signing wizard or renamed the file. Is it possible that some kind of software difference on the OS build on these Milestones is preventing the install?
View 1 Replies View RelatedTrying to install the SDK. I have everything else done. When i run the SDK Setup.exe (ive added the ./tools to the path already.) It gives me the famous cannot fetch URL error.
Failed to fetch URL https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/repository.xml, reason: Permission denied: connect
I tried the force http option and also manually adding a http:// version of the above url. It does not work at all. I am working on a windows 7 64 bit pc.
I've got ROM Manager all set up, and I knew that I have the SU permission set up, but I can't get it to work at all. I can Flash recovery, but when I download to install BB, it just reboots. However, it must be restoring something because it keeps showing a missed call that I've cleared about 30 times. Any ideas why I can't get it to install a ROM?

View 5 Replies View Relatedi work on custom Application Manager and try to get the disk usage of installed package. So PackageManager.getpackageSizeInfo was removed from SDK on 0.9->1.0 update android.content.pm. PackageStats(String pkgName)(cacheSize, codeSize, dataSize) returns always "0" Size of phys. file (java.io.File) in "/data/app" seems wrong/not completely. Has anybody any solution to get the total disc space used by an installed package?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the unrevoked package, moved the drivers onto the sd card, activated the reflash_package and my phone went about halfway through the process before stopping. It went through the white screen with the little green droids at the bottom and then the phone rebooted, but it never went through the last boot screen where it installs s-off. I disconnected my phone and everything works perfectly, but I have no superpermissions. Now when I hook my phone to the computer and run the reflash_package it hangs on "pushing hboot". I've tried it 5 times now and still nothing...
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo the other day I went to download an app out of the market. The download finished, but it seems my phone decided to auto-reboot itself in the midst of the installation. After the reboot completes, I go back to the market, reselect the app, and it's hung at "Installing..." (And when I say "hung," the market is still fully functional except that one app). I'm given no option to cancel the installation. Killing the market app then trying to go back in has no effect - same deal. Hung on install. Another reboot didn't help.
Is there any way to delete the install package and make the market forget I even tried in the first place?
It's Angry Birds (wanted to see what all the fuss was about), but the install seems to have failed in a way that any app install could have failed.
I'm attempting to override an Android View class to tweak the functionality just slightly. But I need to modify a field that does not have a setter method. I've placed the subclass in a package called android.widget. Why can't I access any of the package-private member fields? I notice that the compiler says they "cannot be resolved," rather than not being accessible. Does this have something to do with how Android.jar is built?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have all of my music in one place location. I do not use iTunes. I actually haven't listened to music that much in recent years. I no longer use my iPod.
Anyway, my questions is this...what do "Music People" do to simulate an iTunes experience on the Incredible? Or what do you do to simply stay synched between the Inc and your computer and keep files organized?
I have Amazon MP3. When you download songs from there they go into an Amazonmp3 folder. If using Doubletwist, they go into the Music folder on SD Card.
I just wanted to know what other people are doing to have all of their music in one location and have it backed up/synched on their home computers.
I have Twitter as one of my seven screens, not sure how I did it . Just wondering how to set up facebook the same way

View 3 Replies View RelatedEverything seems to be working fine except - no Picasa. I set up the phone with my Google account and calendar, mail, contacts are all synced fine. However, no Picasa albums in Photos section. Went to Account setup, clicked on Google account, no Picasa there either. On my wife's Droid (OS v2.1 also) Picasa is listed under Google account options. Is this an Incredible bug or am I missing something?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for an app that allows you to setup certain actions just by pressing a widget....basically like running a batch file. For instance, let's say I setup a Car widget. When I press that, I'd like my BT to turn on, my WiFi to turn off, Drivesafe.ly to turn itself on and the Car Panel to open up. Not sure exactly how I'd configure it, but just an idea. I'm now testing out Bluetooth Power Profile which will turn BT on any time the charger is plugged in, but I'm looking for a bit more control. Figured someone here would know if something like this existed.
