HTC Incredible :: Hboot 0.79 To Install The OTA 2.2?
Sep 2, 2010
I have read conflicting things, so I come to the experts. My phone is on hboot 0.77 - is this OK to install the OTA 2.2? I have read that 0.77 may send the phone into an endless boot loop if you install Froyo.

Is there anyone that can give me step by step instructions on how to use hboot to install files from the root directory on my sd card. Ex.
This is what I did: I downloaded Clockworkmod 2.5.0.5, renamed the Clockworkmod zip to PB31IMG.zip, and placed it on the root of my SD card. Power-off, and boot into HBOOT (pressing the down vol+power button).
Then I downloaded Superuser 2.3.6.1 and place it on the SD card, use Clockworkmod Recovery and choose "Install .zip from SD" option.
Restarted my phone, and there's Superuser."
I have tried going through hboot and never see these files once I have installed them on the SD card.

I attempted to install HBOOT 92 from Adrnalyne's website and failed. It would constantly boot into HBOOT. I did a nandroid restore and all is well. Anyone else have a problem installing the new HBOOT?

I'm following the directions found here to root my EVO, but whenever I try to install the HBOOT USB drivers, I get an error: "The system cannot find the file specified."
I'm running Windows 7 32 bit on an AMD processor.

In my attempt to install the MUIU Rom I am having trouble upgrading my Hboot to .92. Ive downloaded it from various links provided, put it in the root of my sd, rebooted into hboot, waited, saw it check the PB31IMG.zip.....then nothing. It doesn't prompt me to do anything....

What does boot into hboot mean? Is it just powering off the phone then holding down the volume button and press power? If so then can someone explain to me when I download a called PB31IMG.zip and put it into my sdcard then boot my phone up it does not say anything about an update. For instance, I want to update my radio from 1.00.03.04.06 to 2.15.00.07.28.

So, I downgraded to stock recovery to get the OTA2.2, I had problems doing so, but finally was able to get it to be stock recovery with s-off and running HBOOT .79, would I need .77 to get the OTA or no?

When I reboot in recovery, it looks like my HBOOT version in .77. Someone in one of the threads mentioned that .77 and .79 were floating around as the safe options. How can I upgrade HBOOT versions, and with everything running fine, is there any benefit to upgrading? I'm running unrevoked forever, second wave rom, and newest radio leak if that matters.

I had 2.1 rooted with S-OFF
I wasn't able to update to 2.2 via OTA so I found an update.zip
I attempted to load the update.zip but it failed
Using [VIDEO] HowTo UnRoot Incredible by downgrading I downgraded to stock 2.1 but for some stupid reason I also disabled unrevoked forever and went to S-ON
I then applied the May OTA update Getting your phone ready for the FroYo update.zip!
Following that I applied the 2.2 update.zip
Here are the versions I'm on:
HBOOT-0.92.0000
RADIO-2.15.00.07.28
Now I'm trying to apply unrevoked3 and it fails
I found 2.1 stock to 2.2 rooted (with links to files)
I tried to downgrade to stock again and I now get this error:
Main Version is older!
Update Fail!
Do you want to reboot the device?
From what I understand I'm unable to downgrade to stock due to having an updated HBOOT
I've found instructions on how to downgrade HBOOT How to revert back to an earlier version of HBOOT but it seems I need clockworkmod to do that
So my question is. Is there a way I can proceed from here or am I stuck waiting for an official root for 2.2?

I upgraded my radio was when 2.05 was released (1.0 -> 2.05), so I'm not sure if risks are the same given that we now have S-OFF.
Previously (when I upgraded) there were bricks that would occur if the same radio was flashed twice. I cannot remember whether the method of radio upgrading was done via HBOOT or Recovery. If the risk is still there, can I upgrade from 2.05 to 2.15, or should I downgrade to 1.0 then upgrade?
As far as HBOOT goes, I have never upgraded my HBOOT, I'm either running on 0.77 or 0.79, but I want to play around with some of the newer roms. Regardless, is HBOOT 0.92 an official release, or is it a user contributed release?

I root my phone, installed Fourth Wave without a hiccup. I do my co-workers phone the same way and now he is stuck in HBoot. Radio won't update either. I removed the battery for 20min and tried, no luck. Goes right into HBoot. Anyway to get the phone back to normal?

So, I flashed .92 hboot from adrynalynes website and it is stuck in some kind of weird hboot boot loop. When I try to reboot it just goes black and comes back to this screen. I can get to clockwork and do and nandroid backup, but I just wanted to know what potentially caused this so I can avoid this in the future.

This mostly applies to folks who have flashed the leaked ota and want to go back to legit stock. There is generally a problem with that, because we cannot use the RUU due to the upgraded Hboot (no radio has nothing to do with it).
Through my travels, I found a way to do it.
This is not without its risks, and I take no responsibility for any broken phones, knocked up cats, or homeless hamsters caused from the havoc it may wreak.
It did work for me, quite well. I was able to flash to an old RUU without issue like nothing ever happened.
First, the link I used, and then the english version.
[HOW-TO] Downgrade HBOOT - HTCPedia.com forums
Need the RUU?

Now, my instructions, which will hopefully simplify it. I take no credit for this by the way, credit is due to the original thread.
1. Download and unzip the files I have attached to this thread and put them somewhere that you can push them with adb.
2. You must used Unrevoked's latest tool to install clockwork.
3. Boot into clockwork recovery, go to partitions, and mount data.
4. Type this code...

So I downloaded the unroot file, installed it onto the SD card (formatted by the phone), and when I load Hboot it finds no update. It just brings up the normal menu (fastboot, clear storage, simlock, etc.).

So the other day I went to download an app out of the market. The download finished, but it seems my phone decided to auto-reboot itself in the midst of the installation. After the reboot completes, I go back to the market, reselect the app, and it's hung at "Installing..." (And when I say "hung," the market is still fully functional except that one app). I'm given no option to cancel the installation. Killing the market app then trying to go back in has no effect - same deal. Hung on install. Another reboot didn't help.
Is there any way to delete the install package and make the market forget I even tried in the first place?
It's Angry Birds (wanted to see what all the fuss was about), but the install seems to have failed in a way that any app install could have failed.

Im having some problems with my desire.. my phone is presently in a htc white logo > reset > htc white screen logo > reset loop of doom... I can load up my hboot menu but that is about it.. If i try and select recovery in hboot it just resets the phone back into the htc white logo > reset > htc white screen logo loop.. somebody has suggested that unrevoked scewed up somewhere along the line and to install the RUU but windows isnt even recognising it as a USB drive in hboot...

Ok this may possibly be the dumbest question asked, but how do you tell what your Hboot is? I see people saying that with 1.49 you can not root, but I rooted my phone and for some reason I remember seeing 1.49 on my phone somewhere but I can not remember.

I'm trying to run TripNDroid ROM (check here), but currently that ROM on 4.2.1 doesn't support my HBOOT, 1.12.
I checked me CID, which is HTC_304, and I see it is compatible with HBOOT 1.39.
Now, I read somewhere that if I update to a more recent HBOOT I might not be able to flash some ROMs only compatible with older HBOOTs. So, should I update my HBOOT or not? If so, how?

is it possible to set up a Hboot password, or if currently not, is it achievable? We all know the PC's BIOS can be password protected, and Hboot is rather like Android BIOS.
The reason Im asking is that since almost all new phones have sensor keys for menu, back, etc (instead of physical buttons), that cannot be used during boot, a thief who wants to install a new ROM on a stolen device can go only through Hboot with power/volume down, instead of jumping straight to recovery (power/menu) or fastboot like on my old MT3G, for example. Therefore, a Hboot password option would make stolen phones extremely difficult to crack, and would require way more than just average user knowledge how to flash a ROM.

I have been messing with my eris. I held the power and send button and as usual it checked the leak file and asked if I wanted to update. At this time I noticed a list from one to four., one thing that was listed was bootloader and another was hboot My question would there be a way to get into the 2.1 leak file and some how switch the hboot and bootloader in it with the hboot and bootloader that is on the official ota file or some other jnoot or bootloader. Then convert it back to a zip file and reinstalling it like out was a v4 leak. Sorry if this was a stupid post but just trying to help leak users or devs brainstorm a little.

I am tryibng to downgrade my Hboot from 0.93 to 0.8 and am following this guide:[HOWTO] Downgrade Froyo (2.2) to Stock 2.1 (ANY HBOOT | WIN/LINUX/MAC | ROOT) - xda-developers The reason I amn doing this is because with Unrevoked I get a Validation Error Backup CID Is Missing or words to that effect.I understand that downgrading to an earflier Hboot version would make Unrevoked work and I can then root my htc desire. This is where I have a problem:
Checking misc partition
/data/local/mtd0.image: ok
CID retrieved: H3__001
Modifying misc parition image
Flashing misc partition... mtd: not writing bad block at 0x00000000
error writing misc: no space left on device Flash complete If any error ocurred here, press ctrl-c and run this utility again this I assume is talking about the little space i have ont he phone itself and not the sdcard as I have tried 2 sd cards. I did a factory reset, created the gold card and went throguh the process several times. If I let it go and carry on it goes through a few more things before it finally finishes. Then it reboots my htc desire and a white screen with skateboarding androids shows up, from there in the instructions it tells me to push up for flashing if i do that it goes to the nerxt option which is sim lock and I dont think that is what it is meant to be.If I boot into reocvery the phone freezes at a screen pic of the phone with a gtriangle and exclamation mark and so I take the battery out and reboot that way. Please can someone explain where am I going wrong here?
Windows 7 x64

Just about to root my girls branded Desire. When I did it before I had to debrand. From what I've just been reading is it just a case of using Unrevoked 3.21 now? No need to create goldcard etc? Been so long since I did mine it looks like its changed a bit.

I'm currently on my third Eris. My first had the silent bug extremely bad and I upgraded to 2.1v3 instead of OTA, so I got a new one. The 2nd one was perfect at first; it came with 1.5 stock, but soon I found that it had a broken trackball and clearly HTC didn't fix that before shipping it to me. So after further complaining I got a 3rd Eris, which works fine although it shipped with 2.1, which I suspect is really 2.1v3 not OTA, but no definite way to check. I've recently decided I wanted to root my phone, but discovered that my HBOOT version is 1.49 which from what I read can't be rooted? My question is is it possible to a root a phone on this HBOOT version and also does this mean that I'm probably running 2.1v3?
