May 9, 2010I like swype for regular use... but prefer the stock for landscape typing. Can I have both without having to keep switching?

View 4 Repliesne0fhyk has created an app (root required) that will allow you to choose which keyboard you want to use in each orientation. i've always felt the stock keyboard was far superior in landscape mode, while swype was ideal for portrait.

First, the entire window is taken up by the input screen and the keyboard, so
you don't get to see what your partner is typing (other than an abbreviated preview in the notification bar).
Second, every time you press 'enter' to send the message, the keyboard disappears. This can be a good and bad thing depending on what you're trying to do. But, most often, it interrupts the flow of the conversation and slows me down.
I wish there was a way to change this...
I installed the Swype keyboard however there are times I want to use the default keyboard. Is there any way to switch between keyboards quickly without having to go to the settings?

View 7 Replies View Related1 thing that is very annoying is when I type a text in landscape, to send the text I have to minimize the keyboard. is there a simpler way to send them?
Found a fix: Main menu>add>widgets>settings>mobile
Anyone else experiencing this? I love the keyboard, but when I type a post here on the forum I have severe lag when pressing keys, sometimes 3 to 4 seconds. only in landscape.
View 18 Replies View RelatedI discovered something unusual today. I've been using a lot of the physical keyboard, especially for long winded texts and e-mails. I have tried and tried to get used to the landscape on-screen keyboard to no avail. I've tried Better Keyboard (and yes, it's better), and the HTC keyboard (that unfortunately doesn't fill the screen). They both have their benefits, but I cannot accurately and consistently type out a message on any of them. My problems: If I type too fast, half of the letters don't register. I've tried pressing harder, using a lighter touch, neither had any affect. I can't get used to the position I need to have my thumb in to actually register clicking certain letters on the keyboard. I always think I've got it, but then I look up at what I just typed (I find myself staring at the keys I'm pressing to make sure they're the right ones) and it is complete gibberish. Where I'm going with this, anyways, is the portrait keyboard. I used it a few times today just out of laziness, I didn't feel like turning the screen or opening up the device to use the physical. I noticed something unusual; I don't make the same mistakes on this tiny little keyboard, and I can actually type relatively quickly. My sentences weren't coming out meaningless, and I wasn't seeing unregistered presses. So my question to you is this - has anybody else noticed similar problems? I don't really think it's a fault of the phone. I think I'm just not used to on-screen keyboards (never used one before) and thus cannot type well on it. I'm hoping that - at some point - a multi-touch enabled keyboard comes out, because I feel like some of my problems are due to hitting two keys in rapid succession, and having one or both not register. Until then, I will continue to practice with it, but I just can't figure out why I can type on the tiny portrait keyboard and not on the full landscape version.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIts awful. I can't get settled in. I keep changing my keyboard from stock, to swype, to swiftkey and now back to droidx latest version. Hate to say it but as of know I'm digging droid x, until I go back to stock in a few more days. Its just amazing that I can't make up my keyboard mind. Swype was the bomb, until I make just one mistake.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have swype installed on my phone, but when I press and hold on the text field (what I've read here to switch keyboards) the only thing that comes up is 'insert quick text'. I tried switching it in settings > language & keyboard but nothing worked in there either.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI missed something, but is there a way I can cancel autosuggestions when typing? Examples:
So this example happened to me frequently before 2.2, but I haven't been able to reproduce it now. I'm trying to search for "wifi" in google, so I type "wifi". The first autosuggestion is "wifi android n router", because that's one of my past searches. "wifi" alone is NOT a suggestion. If I hit enter it'll search for the whole phrase. I don't see any way to get just what I typed to be submitted to the search. I press the little down arrow in the suggestions box, but all that comes up is a bunch of other searches, urls, but nothing that says just "wifi".
Another example, today I was doing one of those captcha things. I type in the nonsense letters in the picture, and Android suggests similar words. This time, the nonsense word was on the list. But if I click it, bam, it adds to my dictionary. If I don't, there's no way to get out of autosuggest -- I tried hiding the keyboard (without hitting enter), but that changed my typing to the first suggestion.
Is anyone else getting really bad typing lag in dolphin browser HD in this forum?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue while typing texts in the stock messaging app...
While I am in the middle of typing texts, sometimes my phone will jump to the first message in the thread I am currently viewing (i.e. I am typing a response text to John Doe). I then have to scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll back to the bottom of the thread where my response box is. Then I tap the box and continue typing...
Is this happening to ANYONE else? Am I hitting something that is making the view jump to the top like that? I don't understand.
Thinking I could probably download a third party app for texting and avoid the problem, but I like the default app. I shouldn't HAVE to use another app. The stock one SHOULD just work...
So, I use Chomp for sending SMS and I've noticed something odd has started happening. Every so often when I start to type a message to someone a www pops into the text box. It just shows up attached to the front of the first word I type. This doesn't happen every time, but it's been happening on a semi-regular basis.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have noticed this issue a handful of times and thought I would assk here ot see what others have seen.
At times - while I am typing on the keyboard in some app (email, web or other) the screen will noticeably dim a bit for a few seconds and then will brighten back to what it was before. It may do it again before I am done typing.
This does not happen every single time I type on it, but probably at least once a day. any ideas on what is going on? Has anyone else seen this?
I want to be able to create a favorite contact for voice mail so I don't have to type a password, much like I used to be able to with ATT. I know pauses need added, but not sure how or where.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI just received a Droid Incredible and I believe it's a great phone, but there is one thing on it that makes it difficult for me to fully enjoy using it. I use the calendar everyday to type meetings, appointments, and reminders. I noticed that when I try to type anything using either calendar (HTC or Google's calendar), the portrait orientation is the only option that is offered. I know that the landscape keyboard is available for everything else (text messages, internet, etc.), but I'm forced to type all of my calendar appointments using the portrait keyboard. This slows down my typing whenever I use the calendar. I tried using the voice to text option to input text, but it is not always accurate. Is there an option under calendars that I did not find that makes it possible for me to type in the landscape orientation or do I need to download an app that will make it possible to type in the calendar using the landscape keyboard?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo i wanted to see if anyone else has the same issue as me. I have my settings so that my keyboard only vibrates (no sound!) for sending texts BUT it makes a clicking noise sometimes when I press the keys. This is really annoying and no. Hard reset does not help. Has anyone else experienced this. my phone is the HTC Incredible.

View 15 Replies View RelatedWithin the last week I have been experiencing some problems with my Incredible. First it started not showing on the screen what I was typing when holding the phone horizontal. If I had it in the vertical position it would show the typed message. Took to Verizon while I was out of town. While the phone was on they took the battery out and then reinstalled. It worked fine. Upon returning home I noticed that the Weather app said my "current" was the town I had visited the weekend before. Tried everything but can't get it to acknowledge my present city. Now I go view my photos that I had taken and there are absollutely none there. I even assigned one to be my screensaver which is still showing as the screensaver however it is not in my Photos/Camera.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I got my sense to run in landscape, its clearly a glitch, but a repeatable one. I'm toying around with LP so I have home switcher. When you push home, the switcher comes up, as you select HTC Sense turn your phone into landscape, then sense will run like that. The home screens are a little werid, but all the apps and things work fine. FIGURE IT OUT HTC CMON
View 12 Replies View RelatedI just bought my android incredible today and I'm absolutely addicted to it. However, I ran into a problem today with my phone that makes me wonder if it's something minor that I can fix on my own or if it has to be taken in. You know when you tilt your phone longways the display changes as well so you have a bigger keyboard? Well, mine's not doing it now and I'm wondering what the problem is.
