I installed the Swype keyboard however there are times I want to use the default keyboard. Is there any way to switch between keyboards quickly without having to go to the settings?

I like swype for regular use... but prefer the stock for landscape typing. Can I have both without having to keep switching?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have swype installed on my phone, but when I press and hold on the text field (what I've read here to switch keyboards) the only thing that comes up is 'insert quick text'. I tried switching it in settings > language & keyboard but nothing worked in there either.

The standard one that comes with the phone is simply awful, I only used the pull out keyboard. A few weeks ago I discovered the HTC IME keyboard and fell in love with it. Unfortunately with the new update it appears that that keyboard no longer works (force closes). Was hoping to pull together a list of available keyboards and what all of you think of them. Currently I am trying SwiftKey which is alright but not perfect. I miss HTC's prediction capabilities. But for now anything is better than the basic one.

View 28 Replies View RelatedI tried better keyboard but it isn't multi touch i was wondering if there is a 3rd party keyboard similar to the stock keyboard that supports multi touch. Coming from iphone it would greatly help my on screen keyboard usage, as the hardware keyboard is awful IMHO.

You will want to jump over to Xda here : [url] nd pick up the high res v27 for froyo if your on froyo the other if you are not and pick up that zip. You will need the clicker hi apk from that zip if you want to adjust the settings for the keyboard.
I didn't create this website or any of the themes there All credit goes to those that did. I just wanted to share with the community. Its very easy and a straight forward process and it creates a QR code (which I never got to work) and a download link to dl the apk and side load it like you would any other app. If you already have the htc.ime keyboard installed, you will want to uninstall it first. It does hold a lot of memory (around 11mb in running processes for me) but it doesn't lag. It also isn't multi touch, but I have found typing very fluid for me.
So I love typing on this huge screen, but here is my question: Is there a way to use different keyboards based on orientation? I like SWYPE in portrait, but multi-touch in landscape.
Also, with the after market keyboards available on the market (ie better keyboard), who has tried them, who likes them, and most importantly why (layout, skins, auto correct, etc)?
Is this possible?? i really enjoy using swype for text messages, but hate trying to use it in the browser. i have multiple keyboards installed, but can't seem to find a way to use different ones for different things.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAny body else with BB7.5 not able to install the updates to Better Keyboard and 'Talk to Me' keyboard?I bought both of them before I rooted don't use either for swype and the 2.1 keyboard.Ever since I installed BB7.5, I've noticed I cannot install the update. It downloads, tries to install and then gives me an error message saying that Installation failed.When I click on the notification it tells me "Insufficient storage available" This seems to only happen with these two keyboards and other apps install fine.The directory in question is data/apps and I have 136 MB free in ROM.Any ideas anyone? Am I the only one?

I have to upper case the letters then type "I", then switch to the symbols and type ', then back to the letters to type "ll". This just seems way to much for a little word. My BB Tour would recognize so much easier. If there is no easy way to type it, wonder if Froyo will fix it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI open google maps and when i go to type in the search field, the program just closes as if i hit the back key. No force closes. I open maps again and sometimes i get to type more or less than the previous try. i didnt mind it as i didnt use maps all that much but now i use this more and still has this issue. I just got it for the first time today trying to post on facebook status as well. Im running CM 6.0.0 FRG22D. BUT i have had this problem since i got the phone even when it was fully stock, this has been an issue with every ROM ive used ..BB's, Fabs, CM, UD.. does anyone have this problem or seen it before ? i found one case in another forum but it was never solved.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSorry if this has already been said, but while I was typing on the keyboard I noticed something cool. If you type a text or sentence and you look back and notice that a word you tried to type got switched to a different word because of a missed key or just because of the predictive text, instead of moving the cursor back and erasing, you can just click on that word. This brings up the original suggestions along with what you actually typed even if you've moved past this word. Maybe the original Droid had this? I came from an HTC Droid Eris.
View 21 Replies View RelatedI discovered something unusual today. I've been using a lot of the physical keyboard, especially for long winded texts and e-mails. I have tried and tried to get used to the landscape on-screen keyboard to no avail. I've tried Better Keyboard (and yes, it's better), and the HTC keyboard (that unfortunately doesn't fill the screen). They both have their benefits, but I cannot accurately and consistently type out a message on any of them. My problems: If I type too fast, half of the letters don't register. I've tried pressing harder, using a lighter touch, neither had any affect. I can't get used to the position I need to have my thumb in to actually register clicking certain letters on the keyboard. I always think I've got it, but then I look up at what I just typed (I find myself staring at the keys I'm pressing to make sure they're the right ones) and it is complete gibberish. Where I'm going with this, anyways, is the portrait keyboard. I used it a few times today just out of laziness, I didn't feel like turning the screen or opening up the device to use the physical. I noticed something unusual; I don't make the same mistakes on this tiny little keyboard, and I can actually type relatively quickly. My sentences weren't coming out meaningless, and I wasn't seeing unregistered presses. So my question to you is this - has anybody else noticed similar problems? I don't really think it's a fault of the phone. I think I'm just not used to on-screen keyboards (never used one before) and thus cannot type well on it. I'm hoping that - at some point - a multi-touch enabled keyboard comes out, because I feel like some of my problems are due to hitting two keys in rapid succession, and having one or both not register. Until then, I will continue to practice with it, but I just can't figure out why I can type on the tiny portrait keyboard and not on the full landscape version.

When I'm typing really fast and drag my fingers to type "saw" for example with just my left thumb I'll catch the bottom left of the W key while the A is pressed down and it'll lift up and make a popping noise. I'm worried eventually I'll snap the W off the keyboard.

When texting using my physical keyboard the phone inserts spaces or @ signs after letters that I type that are not the word I meant to spell. Sometimes what results is not even a word. I tried disabling the auto completion feature but it still happens. Has anyone else seen this and is there a fix?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased the Droid 2 today & noticed when I turn on the Wi Fi in settings. It was turning itself on & off, on & off rapidly for about a minute. Eventually it was stable. This was unusual. So I went back to the Verizon store. Got a replacement. While in the store. The rep turned on Wi Fi too see if it was an isolated incident. Same thing started happenning with the new replacement. Wi Fi going bananas. On, then off repeatly for about a minute. He placed a trouble ticket & gave me the new replacement. He also said this is an KNOWN ISSUE.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a friend who has a Curve for work, and a Pearl for personal use... His favorite of the two is the Pearl, as he for some reason loves the keyboard... He tells me he can type at 70+ words per minute on it, which I can believe since I type around 50wpm on the droid keyboard. He wants a new form factor for his phone, but he does use the BBs for work, and thinks they are the bee's knees... How do I convince him that for his personal phone, the Droid is the best choice for him to upgrade to?
His arguments thus far have been:
1. He has flash on his Blackberry.
2. His web browser is fast.
3. He can connect to 5 or 6 or however many exchange servers he wants.
4. It's the most stable OS for phones no matter what.
5. It's the most secure OS for phones no matter what.
6. Apps are more customizable.
7. The time of day radio signal quality can even be customized for better call quality depending on solar radiation...
I just got my droid x today. wow, i wish i would of dumped my iphone 4 and att sooner. never going back..
