I heard, over on the Nexus forum, that the internal 8 gig storage has nothing to do with installing apps, it's just more like a memory card you can't take out. You know just some app data and pics/vids and music not the app itself. I thought the 8 gig storage was for apps.

Is there a way to force particular applications to use the built in 8GB of phone storage? For example, doubletwist automatically syncs to the SD card, ROM Manager saves backups to the SD Card, etc.I find that I have used basically none of my internal memory because nothing recognizes its there in the first place. Is there a custom ROM that allows this? I know it is supposed to be a feature of Froyo, but it seems kind of silly that it doesn't already work or that there wouldn't be a root method to make it work.

What I mean is...when I plug my phone into my PC I only get a single popup asking to mount the phone's SD card storage, but not the internal phone storage.If I remove the SD card (or unmount the SD card using menus on the phone) and then toggle the connection type from Disk Drive, to Charge only, and then back to Disk Drive (to burp the connection), the internal phone storage will mount, but the SD card won't mount because it has been removed.When I connect my wife's incredible, my computer sees both the SD card storage and the internal storage (as expected) and gives me prompts for both. I took the SD card from the problematic phone and put it in the "good" phone and there are no issues at all (IE.. both the internal storage and SD storage mount). This of course means there is no issue with the SD card.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo if I do a Factory Reset on the phone it still has some of the old photos/videos I took, which leads me to believe it doesn't fully clear the device of everything, just the settings that I changed are returned to their factory defaults (duh!).I was curious if I do the Clear Storage option, which means turning off the device and holding one of the volume toggles while holding the power button - would that mean that the entire Android OS would be removed, or does it mean it does a format of the phones entire partition and re-installs Android (similar to a reformat/recovery partition on a computer)? View 1 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago my phone inexplicably stopped being able to download from the Market. No reason is given, the thing just stalls at the 'starting download' screen. Today, nearly a week later it's finally given me a clue what the problem might be. A notification icon appeared, claiming that I'm low on internal storage. I clicked on the message thinking that it would take me to something useful like a file manager, but no such luck. It took me to the application manager to, I assume, remove some apps. I've got nothing to remove. The only two extra apps I'm running right now are 3G watchdog, Twitter, and Kindle.
As far as I know not much is being stored internally, but is there anyway I can find out what is being stored - I can't find a file manager anywhere. The only thing I can think of is messages might be clogging the thing up (text and mail) I have a mail widget running but it only picks up 1 day's mail at a time - are the messages stored on my phone or are they simply viewed on the server. I also have a few hundred text messages stored, but I can't imagine they would take up that much space?
I can only compare to an Ipod Touch, so hopefully you guys can explain the storage and apps thing to me. Right now I own an Ipod Touch 64GB. I have 1.5 GB of apps installed on it. Based on research for the EVO it looks like max capacity is going to be 32 GB. Not a problem there, but when it comes to apps are they stored on the phone itself? (Installed RAM is only 1 GB) or are apps stored on your memory card? Are these cards swappable or are you limited to whats space is available on it? Hope this is not a bad comparison.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have this weird issue with my newly rooted Droid, whenever I turn on USB Storage, five apps that I have (ShootMe, Factbook, Dictionary.com, TTS for google translate and Battery Gauge Widget) remove themselves from my phone.
I did some searching around my phone and realized that all five of these apps are in a folder called ".android_secure". What can I do about this annoying problem? Can I move them into another folder where all my other apps are or something? Anyone else have a similar problem?
My problem is that when I install any app from google play, it installs on internal storage. If I want to move it to sd card, the only option available is move to phone storage. I have selected SD Card as default write disk.

The "free space" number that is in ABout Phone, or in many many system tools type apps is misleading, because that is a combination of the app space and the working memory space. Since Linux loads that up to be more efficient, it will almost always show some relatively low number (30-40MB in my case) as long as the phone has been turned on for some time. In reality, I only have 35MB of apps installed on my phone, so I have plenty of room, it is just hard to tell. So far, the only place I can find that info is on the web-based side of appbrain. Is there any on-phone location where I would be able to get that info? (Short of actually adding up all my apps' sizes by hand?)

View 2 Replies View RelatedMost apps cannot see this, and I doubt they ever will unless this becomes more commonplace. What do you do with your internal storage? I have my camera set to store there, but I have a slideshow app i use when charging and it only reads the SD card so I move the "keepers" to SD. My mp3's and divx movies are also on SD. So out of 6.6gb internal storage I usually have about 6.5gb free. How do you use yours? And do you feel app developers will ever write apps to access the internal storage?

I'm just wondering if this is normal. I don't have any music or videos stored internally, only about 30 or so wallpapers. Is the space all from apps? How do I see exactly what is in the internal storage? When I connect to my computer there's nothing in any of the folders except the wallpapers I added.
When I connect my phone to to my Windows XP laptop via USB, I no longer get asked what type of connection (i.e. "Charge only," "Disk drive," etc.), even though "Ask me" is checked under the phone's Connect to PC settings. The USB icon doesn't show up on the notification bar either (though the battery icon shows it's charging).
On the laptop side, the 2 drives (SD, phone storage) do show up in Windows Explorer (as previously), but when I choose either, I get "Please insert a disk into drive F:." (or G:).
I've tried setting the phone's default connection type to "Charge only" and to "Disk Drive" but the behavior is the same either way.
This might have started with the Froyo update, but I think I've had it working since then.
WTF, I'm getting a warning that I'm low on space, phone storage is getting low. However, according to the SD card & Phone Storage info I can pull up on my phone, I'm only using the following:
SD card
Total space: 3.69 GB
Available space: 2.67 GB
Internal Phone Storage
Total Space 6.60 GB
Available space: 6.06 GB
Phone memory
Total space: 748 MB
Available space: 636 MB
So all in all to me it looks like I should have plenty of space.
So its great that the Inc comes with 6G of onboard memory- but I cant figure out how to utilize it for anything since apps cant see it.Anyone have any creative workarounds or legitimate uses?

It said "Phone storage low" and when you press it it brings you to "Manage applications" On her Contacts Storage it was taking 89mb. Does this mean she's not linked up to google? View 3 Replies View RelatedI've bought this chinese clone of the SIII, it's a MT6575. It's great except for the internal storage, which supposedly is 500MB but there seems to be an invisible SD storage which is 2GB. It's really confusing... When I go to Settings -> Storage there are 3 memories: "Internal Storage" (claims to be 4GB but it's fake, it's actually 500MB), "Phone Storage" (claims to be 16.5GB but it's probably 2GB), and finally my SD, "SD Card" (32GB).
The thing is, I'm having problems downloading big apps because apps go to "Internal Storage" which is 500MB only, and which files are stored in the "Phone Storage" (maybe internal & phone are actually the same?). However when I go to Settings -> Apps, on the "Downloaded" tab, the apps are in "Internal Storage" (500MB), and on the "On SD Card" tab, it shows that apps are in "Phone Storage" (the ones I moved to SD). This means my 32GB SD isn't being used by the system when I send apps to SD probably.
Also, my 32GB SD card is found in /mnt/sdcard2, and the /mnt/sdcard... I don't know which storage is that.
So basically all this is happening because I tried to Link2SD with my 32GB SD doing all the 2 partitions stuff and so, but Link2SD never detects the "secondary SD" which is the 32GB SD, as this fake SD card, "Phone Storage", is probably what the programs thinks to be the SD card.
i just download some applications from the Market then suddenly got warning phone storage getting low. So is there anyway to transfer the files from phone storage to SD storage ??? PLease anyone who knows about it to inform me coz i stuck with this problem.
