HTC Incredible :: Trouble Answering A Call / Touchscreen Is Unresponsive
May 12, 2010
my wife says that sometimes when she has an incoming call and the phone is already unlocked it will give her an option accept or decline. she claims the touchscreen is unresponsive and she is unable to answer the call and she has to call the person back. anyone else have this problem?

Am I the only one having an issue answering an incoming call if I'm on the other line? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Incredible but this is quite an issue for me. It will show the call waiting, yet I cannot answer it to save my life. I have tried the mylockphone tools which is great but whether that is activated or not, I still can't grab the incoming call. Ultimately, I let the person I am speaking to go and then have to call the other person back. What am I doing wrong? I recall my Moto Droid having the same issue.

Give me reason enough to confirm my impressions of the Droid X and Droid 2's touchscreen compared to the Incredible.
Similar Threads:
From Droid X forum - "Touchscreen Lag?"
From Droid X forum - "Touchscreen unresponsive"
So I had to take my wife's EnV Touch in for a software update on Friday. I started playing with all the Android phones in the store (and yes I own an Incredible...since launch day). There were three Droid 2's and two Droid X phones on display and all 5 seemed to have crappy touchscreens compared to the Incredible. The 1 Motorola Devour actually had a better feeling touchscreen, more responsive and fluid. I felt like the Droid 2 and Droid X touchscreens were rough and had an issue picking up my touch consistently. The two Incredibles on display behaved just like mine.
The LG Ally phones on display worked ok, I hate the haptic feedback. It feels like a capacitive version of my wife's phone. Honestly, it didn't seem much better than the resistive touchsceen on her phone. If a live wallpaper was enabled, forget using the phone lol.
The Devour running 1.6...gotta say I was impressed at it's performance and responsiveness for such low-end hardware. If I had to get my wife a smartphone it'd be an Incredible, but if she HAD to have a physical keyboard I would probably suggest the Devour to her. She could care less for flash, the Android version, or getting a lot of apps.
Anyway, this was just an observation. Some people are probably fine with Motorola's touchscreen but are pissed at the Incredible's battery life. The Incredible really seems to shine with a good custom kernel and a larger battery. If Verizon does get a version of the EVO I hope they go with a minimum of 1500mAh. Then again, I'm fine with my Incredible until 4g enters my area. Given my location, it may be a couple years when they finish the 4g rollout.

Has anyone noticed their touchscreen being unresponsive (in other words its like their is lag and it's sticking and you have press down harder than normal for something to register) from time to time? This has occurred while I texting or just trying to scroll through the different screens. Generally when this happens I press the power button on top and press it again and it seems to go away. I have a stock phone with no apps installed aside from Google Maps from the Market.

I couldn't use the phone while charging (solution maybe not 100% accurate naming, because i'm using german windows and am just translating it).
- control panel
- system and security
- energy options
- energy saving plan settings
- change advanced energy settings
- usb settings
- settings for selective usb energy saving
set both to deactivated
-> finally the touchscreen is not lagging anymore

Anyone else get this? When the phone's on the charger, everything via the touchscreen's really slow or completely unresponsive (existing downloads etc continue fine though). Bit of a nuisance when trying to send a text or make a call or surf.

I encountered one issue when hacking my HTC One XL, the touchscreen was unresponsible after installed CyanogenMod(cm-10.0.0-evita stable version)
I followed the installation guide mentioned in Cyanogen wiki..Unlocked with official HTC Dev Unlock and flashed eyeballer's recovery attached in above installation guide, whole procedure is smooth without any errors.Already wipe the cache and system, also factory reset before installation.
But after installed the stable CyanogenMod cm-10.0.0-evita.zip, touchscreen was unresponsive fully, buttons (power and volume) can work normally. When I rebooted to recovery mode on device, touchscreen function was back and worked well. The basic info of my device as below:
Asia Pacific device
Jelly Bean 4.1.1, HBoot 2.14
HTC Sense 4+
Software Version: 3.17.708.5
HTC SDK API: 4.63
Kernel: 3.4.10-g240d4d5
Baseband: 0.23a.32.09.29_10.128.32.34aL
Internal Version: 3.17.708.5 CL134054 release-keys
Following quoted administrator's words in CyanogenMod Forum:
"It is likely due to a firmware update that was put out by HTC in a later version of their software. The same problem happened with the regular (non-LTE) HOX. Luckily, with the regular HOX, the developers were able to find a working kernel version that brought back the touchscreen. Since work has halted on the HOXL due to a DCMA takedown notice on github, I don't know if the maintainers have worked with newer kernels. However, it may be worth checking on xda and see if there are any updated kernels or CM builds that address this issue."
"Due to the DCMA takedown notice to github, unless it gets resolved, it is likely this won't ever see another official release (whether nightly or stable). You would likely need to resort to the xda forum for people compiling their own builds."

This happens rarely but is anoying.
I'll be doing something in landscape and the screen hangs.
It well self correct within 2 to 20 seconds.
I can manually correct it by flipping the phone to portrait and back.
The manual correction can be fast. Too fast for the app to change orientation.
It's like the gyroscope kicks the touch capability back in!??
I've seen it in the home screen (launcher pro), browser, games
I saw it before the update, root, and launcher pro
I did a hard reset a while back, no dice.
Anyone else have this issue?

While charging my X10 mini pro, the touchscreen becomes unresponsive. This happens when I connect to PC or power outlet.
Everything else works fine. All the 3 hard keys work. Touchscreen does not work even a little.
When I get calls, I cant attend. I cant even switch off as I have to tap the power off button shown in the screen.
Everytime I charge, I have to remove the cover and pull the battery.
Do know what to do. Having the phone for a month and I have this prob from start.
It leaves me red faced in front of all my friends as I have to pull battery everytime I charge. Very pathetic.
Alteast is there a way to attend calls without need to move the slider?

I've had this issue happen a few times, so I disregarded it, but a few hours ago it happened 3 times in a row.I'm in the middle of a phone call, and suddenly I hear a beep, and I look at the phone and the call was disconnected (I'm back on the 'Phone' screen). I then realize that the phone becomes unresponsive (the screen doesn't respond, same thing goes for the Home/Menu/Back/Search buttons). The only thing I can do is press the top 'Off/Lock' button to shut off the screen, then press it again, and everything goes back to normal. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? If so, any advice/solutions?My phone is stock, no rooting or roms. I've downloaded a few apps from Android market and that's about it.My 30-day purchase window is up in about a week, so I'd like to get this resolved before then to avoid any headaches.

I can't pinpoint if it's only happening under this circumstance or not but sometimes i will answer a phone call but not be able to hear the other person's voice but the call is still active and connected. The most recent time it happened I remember that I happened to have the phone in my hand when it rang so i answered it immediately but i heard nothing on the other end... they called back again and this time i let it ring twice before answering it and didn't have a problem that time...

Could it be possible now, which we can develop an Android application having the following requirement for its working steps Automatic receive the call, then Play some sound out to the caller, wait for DTMF response, then Record the caller sound (in the case that they permit, by pressing 1 as DTMF response)Callee can play back the recoreded sound later.

My phone started exhibiting some strange behavior today regarding sound and mic - neither are working (most of the time). If I am receiving a call, the phone will sound the ring, but when I answer it the speaker and mic go dead. If I hit the volume button while the phone is ringing, the speaker also goes dead. When I try to play music, no sound is produced (although if I plug in headphones I find that it is playing). The problem persists after multiple reboots and the Samsung "song" does play during boot. I'm not sure exactly when this started as it was working fine yesterday.

There is no possible way to get rid of that dumb slide? Half the time I try it doesn't slide all the way and I have to try again. Sometimes it takes me 3 attempts. I wish u could just press the home key twice like I did on the htc dream. Even rooted xperias still have slide unlock?

Using a Galaxy S4 with Android 4.3. I use the swipe feature to unlock the phone.
If the phone is unlocked when I answer an incoming call, I can use all of the phones features, including Mute, Speakerphone, etc.
However, if the phone is LOCKED when I answer an incoming call, I cannot unlock the phone. Pressing the main button does not bring up the screen to enter my password. It just stays blank. Therefore no Mute, no Speakerphone, no access to contacts, etc. By default, you can't even end a call! If someone called me and just put me on hold, I would have to pull the battery to hang up. Fortunately I have set the power button to hang up calls, but that doesn't really fix the overall problem.
So, how do I get the phone to at least let me unlock it when in this situation.

I upgraded to KitKat 4.4.2 (Samsung Galaxy S4) and the "touch to answer" is enabled again.
How can I disable this? Even I have Easy Touch Mode "unchecked" it still answers only with tapping.
When I used Android 4.2.2 it was working fine. I don't want to use this !!!!

Every now and then the End Call button will refuse to work (it doesn't even get highlighted when pressed), usually for up to 5 seconds. As you can imagine this can make ending a conversation considerably awkward. Any ideas as to what would be causing this? I first thought it could be the proximity sensor/screen lock, but the screen would have to turn off when this is in effect, which it doesn't. I can see the screen perfectly, I just can't interact with the End Call button. Is there any other way to end calls?

I'm rooted but s is still on and nand is not unlocked. I'm running the stock rom.
I use to get little delays occasionally when I tried to make a phone call, and sometimes the keyboard was unresponsive when I tried to text. Always passed in a few minutes.
Now the thing is just lagging. delays all the time regardless of what I'm doing. I also get a message sometimes when I try to take pics saying I don't have file permissions for the sd card. A shutdown will usually resolve this.
Sometimes when I shutdown I can't restart it without popping the battery out for a few seconds.
I thought it might be related to an overclock widget I was trying so I deleted it without improvement.

I don't get a lot of calls...but since 2.1 upgrade I've had trouble answering them when the phone is locked. It lights up and I try to swipe the unlock bar accross to the right but it just comes back to the left. I got it once but missing calls is getting annoying. Is there anything else I can do?

The only feature that I still want for my Incredible is an alternate way of answering calls. The swipe up/down feature is terrible since it results in many undesired call answers and ignores while removing the phone from my pocket. I know that it's possible to simply have the 'answer' and 'disconnect' buttons present, but that's even less useful. Has anyone ever implemented a different means of answering calls for this phone? I've been searching for this since I got it.

I wonder if ne one had an major issue with their touch screen before like I had with mine. So I decided to post this little story. Let me start off with a little background info. I got my droid november 6, 5 46am central time zone. don't ask me how but the vzw dude was letting me earlier cuz I had work. I was so happy that day leaving t mobile I did love my g1 but wen I read all about the droid I felt likt I had to leave her and move on. She did do a lot for me but time tells all and it was my time go and move on.Untill two months ago (Present time I'm talking in) I realized not everyone has the bubbly keyboard. I saw friends at my unit (I'm in the army reserves) that bought the droid a couple of months after me had flat keyboards n they were bitching bout how flat it was. I agreed with them since I was woth a g1 the keyboard was a bit flat but nothing to were its such a pain, so my friend shows me his keyboard and I looked shocked played with it was like wow and I pulled my n did a side by side side comprasion and this before I saw the bubbley keyboard thread on here. So unforunately my toucscreen starting doin its own thing like it was ghost writer and spazzing out. I had no control over it this happened monday nite and I was dreading it that I will end up replacing it. But it would not let me do nothing.I couldn't go ne where on my screen it would randomly hit different icons to the point were sum times it would call my contacts. I only had control over the physical buttons. So on Tuesday during work I fought the ghost writer to let get to setting a do a system restore. First minute of the set up was ok but right wen it finish and I was on the home screen again. I was like FUDGE I don't want to replace my rare Droid. After work I replaced it, I was real pissed I had the bubbly keyboard and (something I didn't noticed untill I got my replacement) the golden plated volume side button. I miss my precious rare droid. I was soo proud to be first non employee to have the droid in houston.

This has happened to me several times in slightly different cases. Several times I've mistakenly placed calls to the wrong people (due to just messing around with the phone).
In a panic, I pressed the "back" button thinking that it will cancel the call. It didn't. I also tried the "home" button. Also no good.
I had to drag down the notifications bar to see the phone call in progress and finally access the red Hang Up button. That worked. The problem is that is is SLOW. And worse, one time the phone would not respond to the button press until after several tries (maybe the CPU was busy on something).
Anycase, that would appear to be a major problem with all these touchscreen-only smartphones - lack of a physical Hangup button.
Is there any workarounds to this? Perhaps some sequence or combo of the existing physical buttons to forcefully hangup an errant call?

I am well aware of a few threads on this topic but I just got off the phone with HTC. The rep asked me to do a hard (factory) reset of the phone and see if that resolves the problem. I am not ready to do that at this point, and he said there was nothing he could do unless I was willing to reset first. In fact, he said they didn't have a lot of complaints about this at this time. So, please call HTC (or email them) if you have this issue. If enough people do, they will "look into it" and if the problem is similar to the EVO issue, maybe it wont be long for the software fix to come.I am not willing to do a factory reset because I have put too much time into getting my phone where I want it to be and this problem only effects when I try and use in car NOT plugged in (which I rarely do).

Basically, the phone screen is unresponsive when your not holding it or any time it's not grounded. If I put it in the car holder and then touch the screen, its very sporadic.I have compared it with the droid eris and the Moto Droid under the same conditions at the same time, and it performs flawlessly. I have tried the incredible with the screen protector and without. If I take it out of the dock and hold the phone in my hand, it works great again. It's not just the car dock either. If I set it on certain surfaces and just touch it with one finger it does the same thing. The car dock itself has nothing to do with it. I've narrowed it down to a grounding issue. I've also tested 3 Incredibles and ALL of them do it. I am going to post another video showing it on top of a piece of styrofoam which also creates the problem. It's definitely more widespread then just a few phones. Basically, If the phone has very little ground it is unresponsive. If you ground it, either by holding it or placing it on a surface that is grounded then it solves the problem. If you plug anything into it that is grounded it solves the problem.

It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens 7-10 times a day.Basically I can be using the keyboard or even in an App (like say angry birds) and the screen becomes unresponsive. The speed and responsiveness is comparable to trying to do anything on a 486 PC with a virus scan running.I type a letter and five seconds later it shows up.Interestingly, if I hit the sleep button, and then wake the phone back up it's completely fixed.I'm not saying I'm unique in this, I'm just saying I haven't figured out the correct search terms.I have a HTC Incredible, with the updated 2.2, vanilla.I highly doubt it is an App but here is my list just in case.

Continually The screen will go unresponsive, and then turn black and the only things that'll light up are the bottom buttons. Sometimes the screen will just freeze without going black... and i constantly have to do battery pulls.
