HTC Incredible :: Revert To Stock ROM While Keeping Root?
Jul 26, 2010
I have another posting about my Verizon network settings getting screwed up by a widget, and assuming that I need to restore my phone, I'd like to see how to do it while keeping root. If I use the built-in option to restore factory settings, will I keep root and the super-user apk? I'm not downgrading anything, I didn't do any OTA leaks; I'm curious about restoring my phone to factory settings while retaining root.

I really want to root my EVO, but I want to keep almost everything stock, I just want to gain the free WiFi tethering, and such, is this possible?

So I read up on how to root my phone and everything but have been running into problem after problem. Finally I figured out that the main problem was that I need to revert to the stock software (1.5). So I ran the HTC ROM Update Utility but for the past two times I got ERROR {140}: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Yes, I've searched but came up with nothing.

I think I tried to longpress in the text entry field and find another option but two things about the keyboard really irk me.
1. You cannot enable an autospace to be inserted after you choose an autocorrect word option.
2. I'm just not a fan of the long press on letters to access symbols/numbers.
Maybe I'm spoiled by the Droid but can you swap the text input to the standard keyboard?

So a friend just received his new Inc, and immediately took the upgrade, so now he's sitting at stock 2.2. I'm thinking the answer is no, but want to confirm that there is no way to root 2.2, or to revert back to 2.1 so he can root, right?

I woke up this morning to have a 2.2 system update available, but I don't wanna lose root by installing it. First of all I rooted using mejdam 10 minute root on youtube and I originally only wanted it for the flashlight and the WiFi tether, I rely on my WiFi tether now and well I want 2.2 also, I've never nandroid backup my phone or anything like that I just rooted and left it. What should I do now that I wanna install 2.2 and keep root? What would be the steps of going about this.

I recently installed the Cyanogen Mod onto my S4 and honestly wasn't impressed with it. How do I uninstall the custom ROM and revert back to the Stock ROM?
It is the T-Mobile Variant (SGH-M919). Can I just restore from a backup before I installed the Cyanogen Mod?

I know I procrastinated, but I installed the leaked 2.2 months back, and never reverted back to stock, to get the OTA 2.2 Verizon sent out. Is it too late? If I revert back to stock, will I still be able to download the official OTA 2.2? Is there any difference over the one I have?

For the Droid X i want to try to use the froyo update that was leaked before however, I am worried about as to whether or not I can flash back to the stock OS. I see how to do it for other phones and know how to do it for the original droid with much help however, I do not want to do the update until I know there is a way to revert back to 2.1 Also I am using the leaked NON ROOTED 2.2 update if I get an answer on here. I do not like to root only because I am a noob.

So going to root, have 2.1 with first couple OTA updates but am trying to figure out which method to root with Are there pro/cons to any method? From what I've read unrevoked isn't a full root, but using something like simple root or adb (which i don't understand) will give you full root So i was going to just use simpleroot, but then read some posts on here and xda developers about using unrevoked 3, then simpleroot to keep a PRI 1.4 for better reception/connection? anyone know anything about this? will it mess up stuff to do unrevoked then simple root?

I was using easy root and it would not work for me. I got to the 3rd step but kept giving me errors. Now I got a half rooted phone but do not want to try to root anymore. But now I realized after installing everything back due to failure to root that my Facebook won't sync as it get error that service is down. So easy root went through all 4 steps but errors on 3rd and 4th. And thus I can go to recovery mode but not fully rooted. Do I need to do anything special to revert back to nonroot?

Go into recovery (like you did to apply the update.zip). Wipe your cache. Perform a factory reset/date wipe or whatever it's called from within recovery. You _should_ (again I take no responsibility here) boot into 2.1 where you can root and then apply 2.2 update again. Good luck, and let us know if it does/doesn't work.
To revert to 2.1:
1: Flash sbf. After this, you will bootloop.
2: Get into recovery like you did when you updated to 2.2.
3: Wipe cache.
4. Factory reset.
When you reboot you should be at stock 2.1. This would be useful if you needed to return the phone for warranty services, or if you need to reinstall 2.2 for some reason (like to gain root).

I have a quick question. My Droid screen is nonresponsive on the right side and also it will not allow me to slide it open to receive a call. According to several posts on this forum, the phone will most likely need to be replaced. My question is, since it is rooted, do I need to revert it back to stock before taking it to the Verizon store or will they know anyway? I do not want to waste my time reverting it back if they are going to know anyway that it is rooted. I know the warranty is voided since it is a rooted phone. Thank you for any advice that you may be able to give.

First I only want to root to get rid of the preloaded apps that were on my phone. I know on my D1 I could use titanium backup to do so. Will this method work on the D inc? Also I want the wireless tether back. So can I Just root my phone without having to load a ROM to my phone? Also I have noticed in some of the video how-to's they show some files on your computer that you use to do the root but haven't seen any that show where you get the files from. I am also running Froyo 2.2.

I found this online while researching how to remove bloatware off my phone. It's written for the Samsung Moment, but is there any reason why this wouldn't work for the Incredible? Removing stock apps with Root Explorer Tutorial @ Tutorial - Talking about Gadget and Computer Freak I am also seeing many people who use Titanium Backup to remove unwanted app's. It seems that Titanium will only delete them, not move them, but if you know you'll never want it again wouldn't that be okay? For app's like CityID or VZ Nav that you will never use or want?

I am trying to remove some of these stock apps like cityid and amazonmp3. What I did was created a folder on my SD "deleted" and I was copying the applications I didnt not want from /system/app. So I moved amazonmp3.adk and cityid.apk to the deleted folder. When I look in the app folder they are gone but when I look under my apps from the home screen they are still there. So I reboot and when i go back into /system/app the apps are mysteriously back.

Is there anyway to get the stock Android lock screen without rooting? Its so much better than this crap Sense lock screen. I guess HTC decided they were going to change everything from Stock Android even if it means downgrading certain aspects.

I think I've found the battery culprit on my wife's new Incredible. We both got new Incredibles and pretty much set them up the same, except she has to use Good for Enterprise to manage her company email/calender. My phone sleeps like it should, but her phone has been awake 100% of the time since she downloaded Good. After a week of trying to figure out what is keeping her phone from sleeping, I think I have found the answer (and developed a mild case of OCD).
My question is: does anyone know how to set the sync interval for Good? The problem seems to be that it is constantly syncing, which never allows the phone to go to sleep (Up time = Awake time).

I've tried searching all over the place but can't find an answer. How do I revert back to S-ON with my Incredible. I'm bringing my phone into Verizon for a problem that the 2.2 update gave me with 3G issues and I need to turn S-ON. Do I have to revert back to 2.1 and do it from there or can I do it on 2.2?

Last night I noticed that there is an update to Slacker, so I downloaded it to my Incredible. Opened it to see if there were any visible differences, went to a station and played a song for 2 seconds, selected quit via the menu, and then "shutdown slacker" at the end. This morning I open up Spare Parts, check the battery history/partial wake usage, and Slacker is at the top, bar all the way to the right.

I have seen the ones in the market but I haven't found anything I am screaming about!

I love my Droid incredible. I use it to stream Pandora here at work and it works awesome over the 3g network. Even at high quality. Anyway, I was considering keeping the screen on while the phone is charging. I always keep the phone charging while it streams the music, and it would be nice to see the album art on the screen. Before I do that though, I was a little concerned about damage to the screen. Is there any danger I should worry about? There have to be people who do this all the time and never had an issue before.
