HTC Incredible :: Keeping The Screen On While Charging
Oct 20, 2010
I love my Droid incredible. I use it to stream Pandora here at work and it works awesome over the 3g network. Even at high quality. Anyway, I was considering keeping the screen on while the phone is charging. I always keep the phone charging while it streams the music, and it would be nice to see the album art on the screen. Before I do that though, I was a little concerned about damage to the screen. Is there any danger I should worry about? There have to be people who do this all the time and never had an issue before.

So I have a weird issue that my Incredible home screen is unresponsive when I plug it into a wall charger. Meaning that when it is plugged in I can tap the power button to turn the screen on but I can't slide or hit the home button to unlock. I have to unplug the phone to bring it out of lock mode.It seems to only do this when I use a cheap micro USB charger I bought off of Ebay ($2.50 shipped). When I went to the Verizon store they tried to replicate the problem with their Blackberry brand micro USB charger and the problem didn't come up.

I would like the screen to stay on (on whatever brightness it's normally set at) when connected to external power. I've found the Settings/Applications/Development "Stay Awake" checkbox, but the screen still dims down after 30 seconds, though it doesn't go completely off.Is there a way to keep the screen on?All the WinMo phones I had had two separate profiles one for on battery and one for when on a charger, and you could set the screen brightness and timeout independently for each power profile. The reason for this is that I have a dashmount cradle of sorts that I use, and I generally put the phone in it and plug it in when I'm driving any sort of distance. I do things like look at the phone signal, see if new mail comes in, etc. while driving, and it's just reassuring to look down at the phone and see it doing something without having to hit the power button.

I have a good question (I think). Is there a way to keep the screen awake while charging the phone? For example, I keep it on the charger almost all day while I'm at work. And it would be nice just to glance over at it to see if I have an email and such. Any ideas?

I think I've found the battery culprit on my wife's new Incredible. We both got new Incredibles and pretty much set them up the same, except she has to use Good for Enterprise to manage her company email/calender. My phone sleeps like it should, but her phone has been awake 100% of the time since she downloaded Good. After a week of trying to figure out what is keeping her phone from sleeping, I think I have found the answer (and developed a mild case of OCD).
My question is: does anyone know how to set the sync interval for Good? The problem seems to be that it is constantly syncing, which never allows the phone to go to sleep (Up time = Awake time).

Is there a way to keep the screen on while using the phone? Whenever I make or answer a call, during the conversation the screen goes dark. Sometimes I need to put the phone on mute or speakerphone but I'm afraid I'll disconnect the call pushing either of the hard buttons. Touching the screen doesn't seem to do anything.

I have a map activity for which I would like to have the screen turned on as long it's active (the app consists of one activity only). When the activity is paused or stopped I want to return to normal on/off mode. Keeping the screen on works fine while the app is running but when I exit the app the screen stays on as well. What am I missing?

Last night I noticed that there is an update to Slacker, so I downloaded it to my Incredible. Opened it to see if there were any visible differences, went to a station and played a song for 2 seconds, selected quit via the menu, and then "shutdown slacker" at the end. This morning I open up Spare Parts, check the battery history/partial wake usage, and Slacker is at the top, bar all the way to the right.

I woke up this morning to have a 2.2 system update available, but I don't wanna lose root by installing it. First of all I rooted using mejdam 10 minute root on youtube and I originally only wanted it for the flashlight and the WiFi tether, I rely on my WiFi tether now and well I want 2.2 also, I've never nandroid backup my phone or anything like that I just rooted and left it. What should I do now that I wanna install 2.2 and keep root? What would be the steps of going about this.

I have another posting about my Verizon network settings getting screwed up by a widget, and assuming that I need to restore my phone, I'd like to see how to do it while keeping root. If I use the built-in option to restore factory settings, will I keep root and the super-user apk? I'm not downgrading anything, I didn't do any OTA leaks; I'm curious about restoring my phone to factory settings while retaining root.

Any bright ideas for keeping the phone off of the camera lens? I wish I could add feet on the four corners that would raise it above the lens on flat surfaces.
Do silicon covers raise it enough that the lens does not touch?
Even a small screen protector for the camera lens? Though I don't see that staying on as I slide the phone into my pocket.

I was messaging around today and found where to shut of the screen while charging, but I wanted to turn it back on and can't find where it is? Also before the update I could have sworn there was an option on the screen timeout to set it to never. Now I don't have that option.

Before I continue: I don't use any task killers. And I've read every battery trick thread on here and on XDA, so I've done it all. The CDMA fix. Rooting and using OCWidget. Charging it to 100%, turning it off, and then cycling the charge with the phone in the off state. And of course, disabling every data hungry app plus setting screen brightness to 50%. This is my 3rd Android phone, so it's definitely not my first rodeo.
So last night I was using my Evo as it was on the charger. I was browsing the web, and checking out some new apps in the market, so the screen was on for quite a while. I took my Evo off the charger, did some heavy texting, some browsing, Facebook, Twitter, etc, etc, and about 5 hours later I was at 80%. I then put it on the charger, and went to bed.
Fast forward to this morning: Took it off the charger, sent a few texts, and I'm down to 95% within minutes. Of course this frustrated me, since last night I went an hour before it even dropped to 99%. It'll be getting some heavy use today, so the last thing I want to do is leave the house with my battery in the 80% range. I put it back on the charger, and resumed normal usage. Some texting, Facebook, Movies app, Netflix app. Eventually the charging light goes green again. Took it off the charger an hour ago, did some texting, stayed connected to WiFi,and I'm still at 100%. Whereas earlier this morning it dropped 5% in minutes under the same use.
Scratched my head for a second, and remembered that my phone was on and in use while charging last time, before I took it off and got great battery life.
So now, I've set it so my Evo's screen stays on while charging. I also use the Power Control widget to increase the screen brightness to 100% while charging. And then once it's off the charger, just drop it to 50%.
To keep the phone awake while charging:
Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development -> And then tap the check box next to 'Stay awake'.
Not saying this is guaranteed to work, and I have no rational explanation as to how this works, but it's definitely helping me. I'm going to do some testing and report back on a few things.

I'm curious if anyone has noticed the phone and/or screen waking up during charging. It's not a full "wakeup" as if I hit the power button. But rather the 20 seconds or so that it comes on when you put the phone on or take it off the charger. I've got the battery status widget and I've noticed that it happens everytime at either 95% or 96% status. No other % and only once.I though maybe my charger had an intermittent short, but I'm off for the holiday weekend and noticed it for the third time in the last two days all while sitting perfectly still with no one near it.Just wondered if anyone else has noticed it waking up while charging for no apparent reason...

I have a car kit for my desire that has an FM transmitter so that I can listen to my music from my desire through my standard car radio and was just wondering if there is an easy way to make the screen not autolock while the phone is charging as it's not exactly safe having to unlock the phone to change the song. I know I could switch the autolock off in the settings but was just wondering if there was a way it would change the setting itself when its plugged into the charger.

I have an EVO on order with Amazon (early Oct delivery - ouch!), hoping to get one locally before then but at least I have a backup plan. I've been reading a lot about the charger port issues and the screen peeling/separation issues. Does anyone know if these manufacturing defects (assuming that's what they are) have been fixed or do new EVO's still run the risk of having these problems? I've had Verizon and AT&T before and it's always been relatively easy to get a new replacement device if the original had issues. It sounds like it's not as easy on Sprint so I'm a bit concerned...

I would like to keep the screen timeout set to the default 30 seconds to save battery while the phone is not charging. However, I'd like to increase that to at least several minutes while the phone is charging. I don't want the screen to be always on it just doesn't seem like the best thing for the life of the phone. Could be wrong, it just feels that way.Is there any setting or app that would allow this?

I am on my second Moment because my first one failed the Sprint signal test But on that phone i had it set up so that when it was plugged in charging, the phones screen always stayed on. But I don't remember how I did that or what setting I went into. I also have Open Home installed and running on the first phone and now my new phone, i've searched through and through all setting for the phone itself and for Open Home and can not find how I changed it.

when my evo is plugged into the outlet charger, the screen and the menu buttons are frozen, but the volume and power buttons work. when i unplug it from the charger, it works fine. this happened after downloading systempanel lite. this app put two icons on my evo, after uninstalling the app, one icon is gone, but the icon for the tak killer is now a wierd image that reads "problem loading gadget" does the freezing issue seem to be related to the app? what can i do to try to fix it?
