HTC Incredible :: Returning Phone Due To Froyo
Sep 3, 2010
I think it's horrible that Verizon would push out an update that effed up my (and so many other phones). Customers should not be forced to due a factory reset to get things working right. And, after doing a factory reset, my phone still isn't working right!I shouldn't have to spend hours on forums figuring out whats wrong, why, and how to fix it. this stuff should just work, and why in the world Verizon would push out an update that caused so many problems is incomprehensible anyways, I think Im going to the store this afternoon to at least try getting a replacement, and if not a different phone

I see there are a couple of threads on this but I want to make sure I have this right. I just got off with Asurion and they are shipping a replacement. I had rooted my phone, installed some root only apps like wireless tethering and set cpu, removed some bloat like CityID and Tweet/Peep, and changed the boot animation. No custom ROM or radio update.When I wanted to get the OTA update so I applied s-off and flashed back to stock recovery.
So what do I need to do to return this phone. I know I will need to apply s-on. Then should I flash a stock 2.1 or just revert the changes I made to boot animation, restore the bloatware, and remove the root apps? Do I need to remove any other files that go with being root?

I ordered my Incredible on June 9th, and it is suppose to ship by June 30th. When I bought it I was eligible for an upgrade, so I paid the 2 year extended contract price of $299.99 for the phone and a $100 mail in rebate.
My question is that if I get the INC and decide that I don't like it or don't want to keep it, I know that I have 30 days to return or exchange it, but if I do that and try and exchange it for the Droid X, will I still get the 2 year contract price for the X? And if I just decide to return the phone and stick with my old phone, is my contract still extended for another 2 years?
I'm just wondering for a what if situation so I can handle any issues or problems before they come about.

So i've persuaded o2 to have a look at my phone in the hope of replacing it. First they've asked me to reset the phone using *2767*3855#. If i have the same problems (dialpad not working during calls) then i've to return it. If their engineer cannot fix it, i'll (hopefully) get a replacement.So i'm running Galaxo with JC6, what should I do before returning the phone? I'm thinking Nandroid and then copy everything to my hard disk and remove that from my phone. Then use ODIN to install the latest official firmware (which is?). Then I run the reset command they gave me. That about right or should I do something else?

On the original phone, I went back to stock using the "live without fear" .sbf file, to 2.01. I had attempted to also let it do the 2.1 update but it continually gets stuck on the M and won't proceed past that, so I again put the 2.01 sbf file on, and let the phone get to the "touch the droid to begin" screen.The phone has the original recovery on it, the box and explanation mark, no SPRecovery or clockwork.Can Verizon tell at this point that the phone was previously routed and charge me full price for the replacement?

So for clarification if I'm not satisfied with Sprint can I return my Evo and cancel my contract without any penalties since it's been less than 30 days? Or will I still have to pay the ETF?

I'm responding to an email and I rotate the phone to landscape mode. Once completed, I turn the phone upright and it remained in landscape mode. The only way to get it back was to hit the menu button. I rotated to landscape a few minutes later and now its stuck in that mode, and won't return to portrait at all. I tried removing the battery to no avail.

I've been wanting to root my phone for a while, but I haven't had the bills to do it. I saw unrevoked released what looks like a fail proof way of doing it and I'm seriously considering taking the plunge. I'm debating whether or not to root it now or wait to see if this "possible" froyo update comes out later this month.

I have rooted my captivate first using unleash the beast and then used ryan;s one click lag fix. I would love to get the new update but it will not work. My question is can I get some simple step by step method of returning my phone to stock so I can upgrade it? I know there are a ton of posts on this but some seem fragmented and people use explanations that seem to assume that the people reading them are at the same lever of understanding that they are. All I want do is return my phone to stock for update and then root is again in the easiest way possible without bricking my phone.

I have now been using the samsung galaxy for a week now and there is only one factor that is letting down the phone for me and thats the lagging. I have no complaints about the camera even though its without the flash, the internet speed is top notch and the innovative swype makes life so much easier. However what irritates me is the time it takes to access an app or returning to the home page. It must take 30 seconds or more before the screen is loaded which is annoying when you want to do something in a hurry. This also occurs when someone is ringing me and I'm trying to answer, the phone freezes for 10 seconds. I,ve only downloaded around 10 apps so surely that cannot be the problem. I've got a week left before I have to come to a decision whether or not to keep the phone or return it back to vodafone and would like some advice or reassurance about this problem. Also out of interest I would like to know if anyone has encountered the same problem on the iphone 4. The one area in which the galaxy beats the iphone 4 is the price considering what you get with both however it may be worth it to use a phone that dosent lag.

I still have some apps and my phone and wifi seem to be working fine.I don't have Market, Rom Manager, Titanium (but I DO have SuperUser). When I USB my phone to PC - the PC doesn't see either the phone pr the card although I haven't reinstalled HTC Sync). At this point, I don't really even know if I'm rooted or have busybox.I'm really puzzled as to what I should do next:I don't know whether to do a phone restore from Settings or, perhaps from Recovery? Or whether to find a RUU (Is there one with the updated radio or with Froyo? Or, I guess I could wait for the OTA - but that's a wimped out way out and it might not even work at this point. Or, do I want to try reinstalling Rom Manager and do the permission fix - then reflash one of the Froyo Roms. But would that get me Market back? In all cases I'm gonna have to reinstall most of my apps since most resided (at least partially) on the dead sd. Fortunately appbrain has a record of all my apps. - but, from what I understand, there's no way to install the Market, except via HTC/Google/Verizon.

Or do I need a different ROM to update manually with.I've searched here and there everywhere and I haven't gotten a firm answer or I can't find anything at all.

So based on early looks at android 2.2 Froyo, there will be a mobile hotspot feature. If and when the HTC incredible gets 2.2, is it possible to add this feature via the software or is it hardware dependent?

I'm considering rooting as well but have a question. I'm on three UK and got the phone on contract. Now it doesn't seem like 3 have messed around with the phone and from what I have managed to find out it says they haven't. I am currently on 0.8 bootloader so my question is if I want to go back from root (just in case) which RUU would I use? The 0.8 bootloader one on MoDaCo [this] or this which has two RUUs for 3 UK. And will going back mean that I do not void my warranty with 3?

I am (supposedly) catching NullPointerException and returning 0 if that happens. But occasionally I get NullPointerException failure anyway. Is catching it this way no enough to prevent this failure?
private char getCharBehindCursor (int offset){ // get a single char behind cursor + offsett CharSequence cSeq; InputConnection inputConnection = getCurrentInputConnection(); if (inputConnection != null){ try { cSeq = inputConnection.getTextBeforeCursor (offset + 1, 0); } catch (NullPointerException npe) { /* failure*/ return (char)0; }
if (cSeq.length() == offset+1){ return cSeq.charAt(0); } } return (char)0;

Looks like reverseGeocode ( getFromLocation()) is not working in android 2.2. It is not able to fetch the address from the coordinates. It returns null and crashing my app.
In general 2.2 is not stable - 2.1 was much better. UI response , UI rotation when rotate the phone etc doesn't work reliably....

Developed a problem holding onto a WiFi signal after the Froyo update. After Froyo, I was getting a good connection intermittently, sometimes for only a few seconds before it was lost--the phone was switching to 3G and then back again, over and over. This disrupted downloads, browser connections, etc. I'm using an Airlink101 wireless-N router on the Comcast network.
I changed the router settings from G+N to N only. No more disconnects. Seems that the two protocols were conflicting with each other--fighting for a connection to my phone. My connection speeds went way up immediately (12-13 MPS download/3+ MPS upload). My wife has an Eris that does not have wireless-N capability (only G). I set up a secondary channel for wireless-G and gave it a different SSID name. This did not conflict with my phone--I didn't manually set up the login for that channel so it's just being ignored by the DInc.
Not sure if this is necessary for some wireless-N routers but it definitely worked (so far) for the Airlink.
