Perhaps it was only a one time occurrence, but long story short I can confirm that if you have a rooted phone, make a backup, unroot for some reason, then reroot, you can in fact restore to your backup.

Just got done getting Third Wave the way I like it. Made a backup and am now flashing Skyraider vanilla (Came from Moto Droid) and I am pumped! I will probably miss sense and go back but I love all the options! I do miss being able to just restore data with nandroid backups on droid. Made flashing so easy. I am afraid to try this with the Inc. Anyone do this ever?

well one hour later i decide to go back to my nandroid backup, theres apps missing and titanium backup fails to restore them? Nandroid is supposed to make it exactly as it was before no?

I have White Widow 4.4 installed right now, and am apparently stuck with it since when trying to roll back to Aloysius or anything else. When I go to restore a back up, after wiping dalvik/data, I get this error. Error : run 'nandroid-mobile.shrestore' via adb! What the heck are they talking about? I hope this isn't something simple and stupid, but I am out to sea right now with no access to my computer. Please assist! Thanks guys! Also, WW4.4 rules.

I know I have the update.zip option, but that seems to introduce issues for some that I want to avoid.Now, I know I have a few options. I can batch backup apps and data with Titanium Backup, then wipe, install the new build, and then restore via Titanium. Or, I can do a nandroid backup of my phone, wipe, install the new build, and then restore only the data partition of my first backup.My question is, are either of these methods any different from just using the update.zip version of BB? For example, when I upgraded from BB .7.8 to 1.0, I lost root and had to do a full wipe and I just manually reinstalled everything. Will doing the data partition restore or titanium backup restore result in the same issues?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just moved to a Galaxy S3 (Tmo) from a rooted MyTouch 4G slide. I'm loath to root this phone due to some issues that arose with my last handset.
I got My Backup Pro, in large part to get my texts back, but also because I'm a petty little child and don't feel like losing the benefit of all of my time-wasting hard-earned progress on games like Angry Birds, Coin Dozer, Temple Run, and the like. When I tried restoring the app data for these games, I got nothin'. The data I backed up from the old phone seemed to avail me not at all on the new one, restore though I tried. and my feeble attempts at finding where the data goes using Astro made me feel about as tech-savvy as the coworkers I'm often called upon to assist with their phones or computers. (At least I got my texts ...)
Is it not possible to restore app data with this program (or any other way) without rooting?

I have a One V, and I want to backup atleast 30 wifi passwords I have stored on my device, but all the apps on play store require root.I can't do that as unlocking the bootloader will remove my phone data, so I'm asking :
If I unlock the bootloader and then restore data still with the stock ROM on, will it restore the wifi data automatically, and then hopefully I can back it up with a wifi backup app (cause there is no way to root device without unlocking the bootloader atm)?Here's what dashboard is showing as backed up:
I was rooted fine with unrevoked forever. I wanted to try a ROM than required me to install the newest version of hboot so I did that. Well I didn't like that ROM so I tried to flash a nandroid restore but it didn't take. So I reinstalled the pc36img that I used when I rooted my phone. Then I rebooted my phone. Now it booted like its not rooted! I don't have superuser app and when I try to reboot into recovery I get a red triangle over a phone.
When I boot into hboot it says I have s-off but I have no idea how to get my phone back to the way it was. Under system info it says I have firmware version 2.1-update1 but I try to look for a froyo update and it says there are none available. I was going to just unroot with the s-on tool but that requires going into recovery which I can't do. What do I do toget my root back!
I was running CM6, but I had heard some people saying they were getting even better performance from stock 2.2, so I thought I'd give it a try. I downloaded a 2.2 ROM using ROM Manager and it said I could get a rooted or non-rooted version. The only option I was given was to select Superuser Permissions, which seems to be an app but I don't know how to use it. I know for sure I don't have root anymore. How do I get root back? Is there an easy way to simply restore from the nandroid backup I did prior to this? I don't have clockworkmod recovery anymore. I tried to reflash it but I can't because I don't have root.
View 15 Replies View RelatedLet me start off by saying I did/still do have a nandroid and also a custom ROM zip on my SD. I used the ROM manager application to wipe data/cache, like I have done about 10 times this past week, and flashed a new ROM. So my phone reboots to recovery, "clockwork mod recovery", you have to use this recovery to use ROM manager, and instead of flashing the ROM, it gives me some error message. Now for anyone who isn't familiar with clockwork recovery, you can't flash a nandroid from it, you have to revert back to the stock recovery to flash a nandroid, or at least I do.
So now all I can do is reboot my hero which brings me back to stock 2.1 with no root access. Now I know what your thinking, "just flash your nandroid", but now I can't. To flash my nandroid I would have to reflash the stock recovery image through ROM manager, and now I'm stuck with the clockwork recovery image because ROM manager requires root to swap recoveries, and no ability to nandroid back to where I was before. Basically, unless there is a way to change my recovery back to stock without being rooted currently.
I rooted with Un revoked 3. I installed the Virtuous Rom 2.7 with Custom Kernel. I restored all apps from Titanium, but my MMS/SMS did not return. I had to restore from My Backup Pro. I would like to only keep one and use one Backup app. Is this normal for Titanium?

I am trying to downgrade because my phone was rooted and i tried to manually update the firmware, which caused a big problem. i got to find 2.1 update 1 but still cannot find update 2, if there is one. After trying to manually upgrade it, it kept on rebooting and i restored the software to 2.1 update 1, just looking for 2.1 update 2.

What are my options for restoring?
I would love to try other roms or other things requiring a wipe, but id hate to re-download all apps and change all settings all over again.
For my first wipe, i ended up downloading each app one by one. Im assuming there is a more convenient way?
Can i also restore phone settings if i want to?
Do I really need to install these apps on my own one by one, or is there a way to make it install automatically? This is going to be a pain if I need to sit here and select Install then Done for each freakin app.

But when I factory reset my phone and try to restore the contacts it only gives me about 1/3 of them. What gives? The only problem is I have no idea how. I have ROM Manager installed. I read I need to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery so I did that. However, when I try to reboot into recovery either through Rom Manager or just holding volume down and power I get nothing. Does anyone have a clear and detailed guide on what to do?
