HTC Incredible :: Options For Restoring From Titanium Or Clockwork
Sep 19, 2010
I've done all of the backups involved with gaining root for the first time (titanium and clockwork i guess?)
What are my options for restoring?
I would love to try other roms or other things requiring a wipe, but id hate to re-download all apps and change all settings all over again.
For my first wipe, i ended up downloading each app one by one. Im assuming there is a more convenient way?
Can i also restore phone settings if i want to?

I rooted with Un revoked 3. I installed the Virtuous Rom 2.7 with Custom Kernel. I restored all apps from Titanium, but my MMS/SMS did not return. I had to restore from My Backup Pro. I would like to only keep one and use one Backup app. Is this normal for Titanium?

Do I really need to install these apps on my own one by one, or is there a way to make it install automatically? This is going to be a pain if I need to sit here and select Install then Done for each freakin app.

What is the difference between these two backup solutions? I am rooted now with Clockwork Recovery installed via ROM Manager, and I have successfully created a "nandroid" backup with Clockwork.
Now, many that have Clockwork also use Titanium Backup for root users. What is the advantage of using Titanium, or does each backup method serve different purposes?
Is it that the nandroid backups can only be used on the same device on which it was created, and Titanium can be used when migrating to a new and different device in order to preserve app data?

I just bought a tablet, and want to restore a few apps to it (I can install them from the market, but it's the data I'm more interested in). Is this a no-no?

So I did a batch backup with Titanium and when I went to restore on a new ROM I was trying (first time I'm trying this), when restoring all of the apps, it didn't do it automatically? Like I was reloading a bunch of apps, and it prompted me for EACH APP. Is there a way to just press restore on a batch I backed up, and it just puts everything on the phone that I selected? It took a long time sitting there and pressing ok after each app.

I have a question regarding restoring data after flashing to a new ROM (Bugless Beast) via a nandroid backup. I know I have the update.zip option, but that seems to introduce issues for some that I want to avoid. Now, I know I have a few options. I can batch backup apps and data with Titanium Backup, then wipe, install the new build, and then restore via Titanium. Or, I can do a nandroid backup of my phone, wipe, install the new build, and then restore only the data partition of my first backup. My question is, are either of these methods any different from just using the update.zip version of BB? For example, when I upgraded from BB .7.8 to 1.0, I lost root and had to do a full wipe and I just manually reinstalled everything. Will doing the data partition restore or titanium backup restore result in the same issues?

why restoring an app+data from Titanium Backup after a Factory Reset causes Push Messages (GCM I believe) to stop working. It seems fairly obvious that when restoring an app+app data from a previous installation, they get confused and the push messages aren't being delivered to the right place.
So far the only solution that I've found to the problem is to wipe the app's data, and restart from scratch.
I've done a lot of Google searching, and there have been a few things I've tried. This is my normal procedure I do when I upgrade/flash a new rom:
Code:
-Backup with Titanium Backup
-Backup with GO Backup
-Nandroid with TWRP
-Factory Reset
-Flash ROM
-Wipe Cache/Dalvik
-Boot
-Sign into Google Account
-Install Titanium Backup
-Restore previous Android ID
-Reboot
-Use Titanium Backup to restore Apps+AppData, as well as some system settings
-Reboot
At this point, some of my GCM push notifications don't work. The only way I can get them to work again is to wipe the app's data and start from scratch. I have tried the following things, none of which worked.
Code:
-Wiped the app data, restored the app data by itself again.
-Uninstalled the app, installed from Google Play, restored app data.
-Used Application Manager to disable notifications, then re-enabled.
-Went into the app's settings to disable notifications, then re-enabled.
-Cleared data on Google Services Framework
-Removed Google Account, cleared data on Google Services Framework, rebooted.
(This actually had an even worse side effect of re-breaking GCM push notifications for all of the apps I had fixed by hand) At this point I'm at a loss, I'm not sure what else to try. It kind of looks like the Google Account/GSF is related to GCM. I don't remember exactly, but I think I tried restoring the previous GSF App+Data on my most recent flash, and it still didn't work.
here's some lists of the affected/unaffected apps.
It DOES affect the following:
Code:
Accuweather
American Express
Bejeweled
CBS Sports
Chase
Facebook
Messenger (FB)
Reddit News
Waze
XDA app
It does NOT affect the following:
Code:
Gmail
Google Now
Hangouts
PushBullet
Yahoo! Mail

So I backuped all my system data and apps with titanium backup and now installed different ROM, and when I try to restore missing apps and data it asks for approval for every single app I had installed. I need to press "install" and then "done" for each app, and not only that, if I don't want to install and press cancel it stops working and I need to go to task manager, kill titanium backup and do everything again.. How to make that process automatic?

I'm trying to get rid of clockwork recovery mode so that I can recieve the OTA. I've tried the process from the how to unroot by downgrading but when I boot into HBOOT it just goes to the regular screen. My phone is stock except for superuser permissions. I have the stock 1.00.03.04.06 radio. So how do I go about removing clockwork recovery mode so I can update via OTA.

Has anybody tried to partition their SD card yet in prep for 2.2/Apps2SD? If so, it's be nice to get a procedure documented here since many of us will have the need for this in the hopefully near future.

I have tried 3 different pcs and 1 iMac to install Clockwork Recovery using Unrevoked2. With each pc it says there is a communication failure after rebooting the phone, and with my iMac it just sits at waiting for reboot. Is there any alternative way to install the recovery because I really want to install some custom roms

So I've been rooted for about 2 weeks now on my new incredible and I have not had any problems so this is just a curiosity question. There is a zip on the base of my SD card named update.zip. Now i think I narrowed it down to the flash clockwork recovery in Rom manager and I was wondering if this file should be there at all times or is i the latest clockwork that keeps getting placed when I activate that flash that doesn't need to be there?

Perhaps it was only a one time occurrence, but long story short I can confirm that if you have a rooted phone, make a backup, unroot for some reason, then reroot, you can in fact restore to your backup.

Just got done getting Third Wave the way I like it. Made a backup and am now flashing Skyraider vanilla (Came from Moto Droid) and I am pumped! I will probably miss sense and go back but I love all the options! I do miss being able to just restore data with nandroid backups on droid. Made flashing so easy. I am afraid to try this with the Inc. Anyone do this ever?

I backup my contacts to my Verizon using the preinstalled Backup Assistant. When I visit the website all of my contacts are in there. But when I factory reset my phone and try to restore the contacts it only gives me about 1/3 of them. What gives? Can anybody explain this and tell me how to get all of my contacts from My Verizon onto my Incredibe?

I have successfully rooted my Dinc 2.2 using unREVoked but recovery mode just gives me a blank screen with white bars down the sides. The buttons and trackpad do not have any effect. Only way I can get out of the blank screen is to pull the battery. I have ROM manager premium and it says Clockwork 2.5.0.5 is there and the clockwork folder is on the sdcard. I've tried re-flashing Clockwork several times from ROM manager. Everything else works fine.

I just got a new Incredible with the sLCD display. Pretty nice phone, got it all rooted and flashed with unrevoked and noticed the clockwork recovery didn't give a display. So I whent ahead and flashed amonRA instead. Everythings working OK, but whenever I try and flash cyanogen or any roms similar I get stuck at the 1st boot screen (HTC Incredible) I have gotten a few roms to install but none of the ones I wanted to try unforunatly. Is this perhaps being due to the lack of support for the slcd screen? Does anyone have cyanogen installed on their SLCD Droid Incred?

I have a 2.1 incredible that is rooted (for wireless tether) and no other mods applied to it (I do have clockwork). I got notified this morning that the update was available, but I chose that I would do it later. My phone rebooted a little while later, as it sometimes does, and it went into clockwork with an error message about the file being not complete. I chose to reboot the phone and it booted back up just fine, but now there is no update.zip to be found, and when I go to system updates, it says there is no update available.

When I select some of the options in Rom Manager, it says I need to install clockwork recovery. I already have clockwork 2.5.0.5 installed.
Does anyone know why it doesn't detect or know about it?
Also, what would happen if I selected to option to install clockwork, even though I already have the latest version flased?

I'm rooted, running a custom ROM, and have S-OFF and a custom kernel.
I'm looking to sell it (4 batteries, 3 cases, 1 external charger, all stock accessories, 8GB class 4 microSD).
In what order should I "undo" everything in order to recondition the Incredible back to stock? Is there a particular order that's optimal?

running 2.1 sense ui default setup. Rooted via unrevok3d method. If i perform a factory reset of the phone as per the manual would instruct, will that change the clockwork recovery i have, or just reset the os. Basically, can i reset the phone but keep the clockwork recovery? If i want stock recovery i have to reset using ruu and reflash the whole thing right?

I recently rooted my phone which was on 2.2 at time of rooting using unrevoked3. Everything was going well, I performed a full Nandroid backup, moved su to systemxbin as suggested in many posts. Today I did a phone shutdown, then pressed power + volume down to get into the ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.5 menu with the intention of doing another Nandroid backup. I selected 'backup and restore' from the recovery menu and then pressed the power button to select. But pressing the power button only blacks out the screen instead of selecting the menu option. I tried depressing the power button for a longer period of time...same result. Essentially, I'm unable to get out of the Clockwork menu.

I tripped walking down the street with my friends today beyond skinning and cutting up my arms and knee's and getting road rash the fall also took a nasty toll on my incredible. It cracked throughout the screen and it is slowly turning a greenish tint color around the cracks and throughout the screen. It is becoming completely unusable. I got my original droid incredible back in may and I just received a like new replacement a week ago. I do NOT have insurance. What are my options here? I have also invested over $170 into this phone through cases, extended battery and micro SD card.
