So I was getting rid of Bing and I was really tired and accidentally deleted the I500_BingSearchAndroid_07152010.apk instead of renaming it. Is there any way or restoring this short of restoring from an older Nandroid backup I have?

I will probably miss sense and go back but I love all the options! I do miss being able to just restore data with nandroid backups on droid. Made flashing so easy. I am afraid to try this with the Inc. Anyone do this ever?

I know I have the update.zip option, but that seems to introduce issues for some that I want to avoid.Now, I know I have a few options. I can batch backup apps and data with Titanium Backup, then wipe, install the new build, and then restore via Titanium. Or, I can do a nandroid backup of my phone, wipe, install the new build, and then restore only the data partition of my first backup.My question is, are either of these methods any different from just using the update.zip version of BB? For example, when I upgraded from BB .7.8 to 1.0, I lost root and had to do a full wipe and I just manually reinstalled everything. Will doing the data partition restore or titanium backup restore result in the same issues?

In an effort to free up space late last night I opened cwm app and deleted my backup if clean rom. I would like to recover it. I know of tools like diskdigger apk, but I don't know if it will recognize the format since (I believe) inside the backup file folder there are many files that comprise the nandroid backup. I did not do any factory resets since the delete. I know the files should still be there. I have done very little on the phone so the data should still be intact... for now. Xoom WiFi

The Fascinate is a real stand out and I'd love to keep it. But, as per my thoughts on Bing, I'm going to cash this and go with Sprint. Before I walk away though, I wanted to check here. Anyone heard of a decent approach to getting this phone back to using Google, as God intended it? Specifically, I want to use the dedicated search button to pull up Google text and voice search. Adding Google as a bookmark to the browser isn't really a solution, IMO.

This has been an issue over the last 10 days or so. Anyone else have this problem? I brought it to Verizon tech and they couldn't figure it out. Google voice search works fine. I speak loudly and clearly in a quiet environment, using different search terms.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a question about restoring nandroid backups. I have quite a few ROMs saved as backups, for switching if I want to try something else. I have White Widow 4.4 installed right now, and am apparently stuck with it since when trying to roll back to Aloysius or anything else. When I go to restore a back up, after wiping dalvik/data, I get this error. Error : run 'nandroid-mobile.shrestore' via adb! What the heck are they talking about? I hope this isn't something simple and stupid, but I am out to sea right now with no access to my computer. Please assist! Thanks guys! Also, WW4.4 rules.

All well and fine, but, unorganized as I am, I don't know anymore which is which. I believe that, If I can see a lsit of the files in each .img file, I could figure it out. How do I look into those files?
The answer to that question, at least for the data.img and system.img files, is a small tool called unyaffs. A compiled binary for windows of this file is available at http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XMGZSYOM
Put the unyaffs.exe and the file.img files in a new folder, open up a terminal window (windows-run-cmd), navigate to the folder where the files are and type: unyaffs file.img.
All the files of the image are than extracted to the folder you are in.
Perhaps it was only a one time occurrence, but long story short I can confirm that if you have a rooted phone, make a backup, unroot for some reason, then reroot, you can in fact restore to your backup.

TO ALL Storm users (and other users with 5.0, not sure if it works with 4.7.. should be able, havent tested it) you CAN backup your phone via backup assistant from Verizon. I did this yesterday and now have all of my contacts backed up on my account.
While the Tour and Storm 2 had the program pushed to their devices, I (and others) were still able to grab the link!
Simply download and install the backup assistant from the tour link.

When logged in to verizonwireless.com, you can simply select all contacts then export them as a .csv file.
After you do that, login to your gmail account (you have to have one to use an android device anyway) and you can import your contacts.

I had all my contacts copied over to my new Fascinate and all my Gmail contacts info also got synched up. I upgraded to 2.2 last night, but got stuck in the reboot loop. To fix it I reflashed to a 2.1 ROM and then re-applied the FOTA upgrade to 2.2, which seemed to work fine. The only problem now is that I have lost all my SMS and MMS. They would've been backed up when the original (failed) 2.2 upgrade took place. Is there any way to restore this backup? I've tried a factory reset but no luck.
