HTC Incredible :: On Call - Screen Turns Off When - Waving My Finger - Near The Notification Bar
May 12, 2010
Anyone else notice when you're on a phone call if you move your finger near the little dot to the left of the verizon logo the screen will turn off? It's annoying when multitasking because that functionality remains regardless of whether the phone call is the active screen or not. If you are watching the Google Navigation screen and you're on a call, move your finger near the little dot next to the verizon logo and the screen turns off.

I know it turns off to prevent button press but when I go to press a number or end call, the screen either doesn't turn on or turns off immediately. So I press the power button, it turns on but immediately turns off.

Closest thing I can find is Popup Notifier, but not only does it wake up the device, it leaves a ton of popups when unlocked. I would rather have popups on the lock screen.

This is a HUGE problem!
During a call, when I put the phone by my left ear, my ear and/or my cheek touch the screen, and though one would expect the buttons on the touch screen to be disabled during a call, when held against the ear and the face, I keep accidentally hanging up calls or in some other occasions, muting, having frustrated monologues to myself, thinking that the other person is ignoring me...
I mentioned using the left ear, because, it seems to have always happened when I held the phone by my left ear and not when I held it by my right ear.
I'm trying to find a more elegant solution, as dropping numerous calls is not an option. (today I dropped more than 15 calls). Any suggestions?

I just noticed this since the latest update, not sure if it was there or not, and not sure if there is an app that may have recently been updated causing this, but every 5 minutes or so, my screen will flash on for a second or so, and then turn off again. It's rather maddening. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Is there something wrong with my phone? When it dims (before it goes dark and locks), the screen turns a pinkish/red hue. Is this normal? The screen looks fine otherwise, it just does then when it dims.

So when I get texts, gmail, completed app downloads, etc I get notification icons at the top as usual. When I slide the notification bar down to reveal the nofications and click on an item, the notification screen doesn't hide back to the top of my phone -- it just stays open. I either have to hide it manually or I have to hit the back button, which sometimes exits the app I was trying to open. 2.1 never did this for me, it always hid when choosing an item. Anyone have a solution to this? I've done a factory reset after 2.2 btw. I've also searched support to see if there was a similar problem, no similar threads.

My only problem with the incredible, is a kinda big one. My old phone would vibrate or chirp until I acknowledged a missed call or text. I can not make the incredible do this. I downloaded a missed call application and either it doesn't work with the incredible or I am doing something wrong.

How do I turn off the vibration notification while I am on a call? If I am on a phone call, and I get a text or email, the phone vibrates. I want this feature of course while I am NOT on a call, but while on a call people on the other end of the call have described it as a duck being murdered. I have tested it myself and cant disagree with them.

I understand calling onTouchEvent from views to get the location of the last touch as a motion event. How the heck can I tell that a figure is down on the screen and has not been lifted and when the finger is lifted?
For instance there is onKeyDown and onKeyUp for use when you are dealing with keyboard input. So how can I find out when on fingureUp happens?

First, my specs: I have an HTC Evo 4G LTE, software, firmware is current. I am using a Plantronics M50 earpiece. The problem: I have it in a Sprint car dock while driving and I make a couple calls on my way home from work using my Bluetooth. It started about 2-3 wks ago. I'll start a call and while the phone is ringing on the other end, it goes silent in my ear and I can hear it through the normal ear speaker on the phone (speakerphone doesn't kick on). I have to turn my Bluetooth off then on again to re-establish a connection. Then it stays on through the call. It happens when I answer a call as well. Happens when not in the car dock too. It doesn't do it twice in the same call, after reconnecting the Bluetooth, the call stays connected. I have already unpaired the Bluetooth and did a simulated battery pull (battery is not removable) and hard reset to clear data then pair it up again, but it still does it. I have a feeling that it's not the Bluetooth, but something in the Bluetooth software in my EVOLTE.

I have a motion listener to detect finger down, finger drag, and finger up. I start my action at finger down and finish my action at finger up. When the action is finished, I store it in a stack for allowing undo. My problem is that if I don't get a finger up event, I can't finish my action to add it to the stack for undo.
How can I detect that the user's finger has left the screen?
I tried using the emulator to see if getEdgeFlags() ever returned anything useful, and the result was always 0.
Basically, if a finger leaves the screen, then nothing is touching the screen anymore and I would like to detect that as a finger up event. How can I do this?

I have searched my HTC Incredible up and down but I can't find the option to set how often it rings to let you know that you have a missed call or text. Right now me phone only rings once. This is the most basic feature and there has to be a way to change but I can't find it for the life of me. Even my old razor let me set it to ring every 5 minutes or so for missed calls. I can hook my phone into my pc and stream internet off it but for the life of me I can't figure this out!

Tried rooting so I started off flashing r8 of bh_man's 1.6 rom. Went through the setup, odin turned blue to pass and I let the phone run past the android system and then the screen turned off.
Thing about it is that the phone is still being detected by the computer and odin. It's like my phone is on a screen lock but not responding to when I push unlock.
Ive tried every custom rom and each one does the same. I try to go back to stock and most of the time the program closes, when it doesn't I try to flash it and it goes through the process but goes on forever. One time I let the timer go on for 2 hours and it was still on 5/9 completed.

I've noticed that I'm getting little tingling shocks to my right index finger whenever I touch the Evo's screen. What's even stranger is that I don't feel the sensation on any other fingers on either hand. Has anyone else had a similar experience with their evo screen and finger feeling little shocks?I'm not imagining this, and I'm wondering why the heck it's just my index finger?!? Maybe it's just more sensitive, but who knows.I would assume that the capacitive touchscreen technology is the culprit. I can live with the slight tingling, I just don't know why it's only on 1 finger!

I have got one big problem with the touch input of my Hero. The screen is too sensitive. I can navigate on the screen while my finger is about 5 cm away from it. I can choose what I want, but the screen takes the right horizontal position of my finger, but not the vertical. Anything I want to take, the screen takes the one on the bottom of the screen. The same when I want to write a message or something like this. I choose the "W" or "E", but the screen takes the "X" or "C". If the display goes on Standby and I wake it again, everything is good for a few seconds, but than the same mistake comes again. I already tried to wipe and install a new MCR, but nothing helps. I think, but I am not sure, that I have that problem after I have installed the htc keyboard on android 2.1, as I tried it for a few hours.

I found event handler: dispatchTouchEvent(MotionEvent) works differently between G1 & emulator when finger is holding on touch screen.
I have a class inherited from RelativeLayout and override public boolean dispatchTouchEvent(MotionEvent event) method. After I touch & hold on the touch screen, in emulator I got MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN event only. But in G1, I got MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN first and then MotionEvent.ACTION_MOVE continuously, even if I try my best to hold still my finger tip.
I wonder if this is because there is pressure field in the MotionEvent. Because the blood pressure on finger tip changes continuously with heart beat, so no matter how still my finger is, the pressure value still changes. But I wonder if all kinds of touch screen have pressure factor in their touch event? Will all touch screen driver emit touch event continuously when finger is holding on the screen?

I've noticed in the last few days that my display turns off after 1 minute when idle, even when actively running Googlemaps with directions, etc. This is overwriting the 10 minutes in settings - very annoying.Am also running PowerManager and TaskPanel, but haven't changed any of the settings for ages, so I can't see if these can be interfering.

I recently bought a HTC Desire which I've become exceedingly fond of.I've read (and been told by a colleague who owns a HTC Legend) that wifi should automatically turn off while the screen is off to conserve battery. I have the impression that I should be able to see the wifi icon turn on as I turn on the screen and unlock the phone. However, I haven't noticed that happening: The icon seems to just be on always.I have then tried observing my router's DHCP table when the the screen is off, but I haven't observed the entry for my phone disappearing (and I don't really know how much time has to pass before the table not showing my phone. Are there any settings that can cause this behaviour? What about programs? I current use smart monitor to log data usage as well as locale (using a SSID plugin and not the locale "location" condition). The only services I can see apart from those I think are OS services, are the ones for locale, smart monitor lite and the SSID plugin.
