HTC Incredible :: Need Facebook Places / Foursquare
Sep 3, 2010
Should I wait for Places to have points, badges, and rewards like Foursquare or just go for Foursquare? I hear that Places has a lot of potential to surpass Foursquare but like that guy said, it looks pretty boring. I don't want to do Foursquare and then have to start over if/when Places takes off and adds all those points, badges, and rewards.

Facebook rolled out a new places feature last night. Non-Iphone users are supposed to be able to use it through the touch.facebook.com site, but I am not seeing the Places tab when I navigate to that site. Is anyone else able to access this feature?

My current Incredible was rebooting 5-10 times a day randomly and when I am at work my average data speed is about 90kbps. This is with a -50dbm signal. So my signal is fine but for some reason the data speeds are terrible. At home with roughly the same signal my speeds are what they should be around 900kbps. I wiped it and the reboots haven't happened again yet but the data speeds are the same.
Is it possible for the data to be painfully slow even though the signal is good? I received a refurb today and am hesitant to switch to it because I am just weird and don't like owning previously owned things. But if the data should be fast everywhere I will give in and use the refurb. I just don't want to see my original Incredible go.

I noticed that after I installed the Foursquare app that my sensor usage in Spare Parts has gone through the roof. I had 8 hours of use on it yesterday! Has anyone experienced this? Is there an alternative foursquare app that can be used?

I got a new Wildfire about a week ago and I've been loving it, I used it in London and at home here in Norfolk with no problems until yesterday. All of a sudden my weather location changed to Sheffield. When I went into Google Maps it locked my location to be a park on the outskirts of Sheffield then after a few minutes it would find my real location. I turned off Wifi and using Wireless Networks to locate and it stopped doing that in Google Maps but wouldn't change the weather location and sometimes when I'm using Foursquare it will come up with a random list of places near Sheffield. This morning I wake up, turn on my phone and it decides it's in Aberdeen where apparently it's sunny. That's on the other side of the country and I just can't shake it off my weather gadget.

I love to send latitude and longitude from my Android application to open in Google Map in Android phone.
But I wonder can we do the same thing with Foursquare application? Just like send the latitude and longitude and bring Foursquare app with place around the position we send to.

So, somehow I accidentally installed the Facebook app in the Android market, which overwrote my Facebook HTC app that came built in. Did I screw anything up? AppBrain told me to upgrade it (HTC version), and upgraded to market version. Is there a difference? Should I care? Is there a way to undo what I have done? Seems like AppBrain has a bug in there, so be warned! Or it is just me being clueless, I suppose.

Well, I seem to either A) have a problem or B) it's a problem just in general.I have Facebook installed, and there's obviously Facebook for HTC Sense. I want to sync my Facebook account and only that. I don't personally care to use the Sense inspired widgets because I like my streams separate.Anyway, I go into the Accounts menu in settings and removed the Facebook for Sense account and tried to add a new account, but whenever I click Facebook, it does absolutely nothing.I don't understand what's going on. If anyone has any clue, I'd love to hear it!

Am I the only one that has a hard time between the two? I mean I'll go to google places, search for a nearby restaurant and then I have to go the navigator and type in the address? seems silly - so I hope I'm missing something - if not, I'll put it in the google suggestion box!

I found the following note in The Google Places API (Developer Preview)
http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/places/#PlaceDetailsRe...
Note: To use the Google Places API you must first request a Maps API client ID and cryptographic key which you must use to sign your request URLs. For information on signing URL requests, please see the URL Authentication documentation within the Web Service APIs home page. But followed the instruction, I still do not know how to get the Maps API client ID and cryptographic key.

My phone entries are all area code first, then 7 digit phone number. I've noticed that it places a 1 in front of every number I dial out. I know I can turn this off, but is it necessary to do this by Sprint? I know my ATT phone didn't need the 1 in front, area code by itself worked fine, even on long distance calls. I also noticed, if I just type the number in, no area code it looks at it like it's a totally new number than the one in my phone. My last phone wouldn't care if I put area code first, it would pick up that contact and show that picture. Any thoughts on this?

I recently got my first Android and am really digging the Google contacts integration. Especially with the Google+ profiles (even though.. who uses Google+??).
One issue I have, though, is that some of my contacts have G+ profile pics, and they show in my Hangouts app (when I text those people), but those pics do not show in the "Google People" app where I go when I want to look at my contacts. They also don't show in my phone dialer when I dial them by name.

It should be application to iPhone or Android or other mobile platform, where, basically, user can access map with "places of interest" and add it's own "place of interest" (with photo and description). Kind of, community generated sightseeing map. I know it is quite simple and not a groundbreaking idea, but my google-fu is quite weak and I can't find anything like that.

Does anyone know where I can find the old version of the google places directory standalone app? I don't like the new one integrated with maps. I can't figure out how to set a location other than my current location when searching places. I guess if someone can tell me how to search for places NEAR an address or point on the map that I choose, it will be ok. I still don't like the interface as well as the old one though.

Firstly, I wanted to mention taht I live in Canada, so that might mean some solution do, or don't exist. What I am looking for is some sort of smart phone that can do the following: GPS navigation stuff, makeing bookmarks of places, and entering coordinates is good. Voice over IP . even if it is using the voice implementation of something like ventrally, that would work, even better is to have it act like a true phone. Ideally I want to do this so that I can use WIFI network, rather then phone minites, to keep monthly cost down. Phone and video are cool and all, but on my current "dumb" phone I don't use them at all.

I went to Google Labs and looked around and found Places Directory. The page shows a barcode and said I could scan that and download the app so that's what I did. My browser opened up and showed that the file was downloaded.
So I went back to the home screen but couldn't find Places Directory. I decided to manually download and install it from the market and that worked fine.
My question is, do I now have a downloaded copy of this app that is just sitting somewhere taking up space? I can't figure out where files downloaded by the browser go to, please help.

I've been looking for an app that I can quickly launch (widget is even better!), grab my current location using GPS and save it to an existing layer in my google maps account. If I can also a label to the point that would be ideal. After googling awhile I found "My Maps Editor" but it looks like it got the ax at some point.
As far as I know, you can view "My Places" from google maps in the mobile version using layers, but can't edit them. Even if you could edit it, it'd be a hassle to load up the layer each time when I just want to mark a spot on the map quickly.
I know you can star locations, but I've been using My Maps/Places for awhile so I'm a little locked in at this point.
