Is there a way to somehow link a contact's address to a calendar event? For instance, if I have a meeting at Joe Bob's office, I'd like to be able to type in Joe Bob's name in the event location field on the calendar and have it insert the address for me, instead of having to switch to contacts, find Joe Bob, copy Joe Bob's address, switch back to calendar, and paste the address.

Just happened a few days ago, where one of my contacts on my phone from Gmail that was linked to Facebook all of a sudden is unlinked. When I tried to relink to fix it, the contact doesn't appear on the list to link. Going into the Facebook app, the contact is listed there. Anyone run into this or have any idea how to fix? Tried a reset already, after backing up apps/messages.

(The Google Contacts, which is the source for the 'People' is also a single field for street, city ,state, zip.) The latter part of the field (zip, state and sometimes city), does not show up without clicking on the address, loading the map (with GPS running) and then clicking on the address balloon in the map.Is there an easier way that I should be doing this to read the entire address for a contact?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've seen quite a few people wondering how to get the birthday's from their contacts (either google, facebook or both) into their calendars. Here is how to do it.
First, Facebook limits the way you can view their data (phone numbers, birthday's, etc.). They will allow you to view it, but not to scrape the data to transfer to another app (which is why there is no way to sync your google and facebook addressbooks). I remember a while back somebody wrote a facebook app that would sync with Plaxo and facebook shut down the users account within a day of him starting to use the program. Because of this limitation, you will need to add 2 calendars to get all your birthdays and if you have a birthday in both facebook and google, that birthday will appear twice. That being said, here is what you can do.
To add Birthdays from Google contacts to your Google Calendar.
1. Using a computer go to calendar.google.com
2. Top Right corner, click on settings/calendar settings.
3. Under Calendar settings click Calendars
4. By Other Calendars, click Browse Interesting Calendars
5. Under Interesting Calendars, select More
6. Subscribe to the Contacts' Birthdays and Events calendar.
7. Return to Calendar, your Contacts' Birthdays should now be appearing.
8. On your phone open the calendar app and go to menu/more/refresh
9. Go to menu/more/calendars and make sure the new CBE calendar is checked.
10. Back to Calendar. The birthdays should now be showing.
11. If they do not appear, try menu/refresh.
12. If they still do not appear go to menu/more/calendars/remove and remove the CBE calendar then menu/more/calendars/add and readd the CBE calendar (this is what I had to do).
*Google does not currently have a way to add reminders to this calendar. You can add a reminder to any individual birthday, one at a time, from your phone, but the reminders will not sync back to the web version of Gcal and will only work on the phone.
To add Birthdays from Facebook to your Google Calendar
1. Go to fbCal.com - Facebook Calendar Generator, and click Get your calendars now
2. In facebook click Allow/Allow/Allow
3. Under "Subscribe to Friends Birthdays" click the Google Calendar icon
4. In Google Calendar, Select Yes add this Calendar
5. In Google Calendar go to Settings/Calendars, double click the calendar with the really long complicated name, and rename to fbCal or something else you will remember, Save. Facebook birthdays should now be showing in Gcal.
6. In your phone calendar, menu/more/refresh
7. Menu/more/calendars/ and put a checkmark next to the fbCal calendar.
8. Menu/more/refresh
9. Everything should be working now.
*If you go back to the fbCal page in facebook, you can follow the same process to create a calendar for Facebook events. You CAN create regular Google notifications for both facebook calendars.
When I open my address book and edit a contact and select facebook to link the contact. It updates and uses the picture from facebook. This is a very neat option, my question is when I link a profile from facebook to a contact does this decrease battery life, or can I change some setting so facebook wont update but maybe once a day?
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust got my wildfire, running android 2.1 and cannot obtain an IP address from my TP Link TD W8920G router. log in the password etc and it just keeps getting stuck in a loop saying 'obtaining IP address', then unsuccessful.
I've tried manually adding the phone's MAC address to the router configure, and have assigned an IP address to the phone, following advice on other forums. I've upgraded the router's firmware, and I've rebooted the router. I've attempted to 'use static IP' but truth be told i don't really know what that means.
I was wondering how I can mimic the action that occurs on an auto linked email address via an intent. I tried using this method, Messaging and email intents in Android? And ran in on my phone and in my emulator and the message window opened but did not have the email address. My app had in intent-filter to respond when users click on a person's address in the contacts application.
In Android 1.5 I would get an intent with data like content://contacts/people/16/contact_methods/3
In order to retrive the address from the contact I would later I would do:
Cursor c = getContentResolver().query(intentUri, ...);
Get the column called "data" and take the address from there.
That stopped working on later android releases. On 2.0 all I get is:
content://com.android.contacts/data/4
And I do not know how to get the address form that. It fails when I query for it
Is there a way to link a contact to twitter in the same way you can link to their facebook or flicker feeds? I had it in my mind that by going to contact you'd see their last few tweets.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWith Google's voice action (or voice search), I can use the "navigate to" command to start the navigation app directly. However, this seems to work only with address, name of places.For example, I tried "navigate to 1234 main street" or "navigate to san jose airport" or "navigate to Starbucks on oakland road". The commands were recognized in all cases. For the last one, it prompted me with a list of choices for the end points, and once selected, proceeded correctly with the navigation.
However, if I say "navigate to John Doe home", although it also recognized the command correctly (i.e. it came up with the prompt "navigate to john doe home" and asked me to choose "go" or "cancel"), it would not come up with the correct address from the contact list as the end point to navigate to, but instead it would come up with a list of end points not related to John Doe at all, even if I have John Doe in my contact list (with the home address).
I googled around and it appeared that other users have also experienced similar problems, with some dating back 2-3 years ago. I just discovered this since I just switched from iPhone to a Samsung Skyrocket (with Gingerbread v2.3.6). Seems to be a simple problem to resolve. I can't believe that this problem is not (AFAIK) getting the attention of Google as I think this would be encountered by a lot of people.
Also I am wondering if there is a way to get around this beside giving the full address in the voice search command.
Looking at the Sprint Evo introduction page at Sprint.com, the link address has the name 'HERO' big and bold in it. I wander why that is? As for me, I sure hope the Evo isn't going to be the only 2.1 Hero on Sprint. Sprint - HTC EVO? 4G

After I hang up, I try to "connect with person already in contacts" and it forces "People" to close. I tried to add her manually and it deleted it before my very eyes while I was within "people." I did it using the Google phonebook and not the phone's. Is there any issue with this, and what's the difference between the Google and Phone options (benefits, etc... ?).

When I pop up the Quick Contact for a person who's online, I see a second dialer icon. When I press that, it gives me the option to use various chat methods, including Talk (and Skype). However, when I choose Talk, it asks me to "Complete action using" and gives me a huge list of things, but none of which are Talk.
