HTC Incredible :: Viewable Address Field For People Contact Truncated
Jul 26, 2010
When viewing an individual contact in People (Contacts, Address Book equiv.) the single address field contains the street, city, state and zip. (The Google Contacts, which is the source for the 'People' is also a single field for street, city ,state, zip.) The latter part of the field (zip, state and sometimes city), does not show up without clicking on the address, loading the map (with GPS running) and then clicking on the address balloon in the map.Is there an easier way that I should be doing this to read the entire address for a contact?

On my Hero I have synchronised people's details to the 'People' application from my desktop Outlook using both the HTC sync and Companionlink. But either way, I just seem to get a truncated version of their physical addresses under the 'Find Home' field. When I hit that, I get a map I'm not looking for, and sometimes the full address, sometimes not. I can't see any other way of accessing the full address on the Hero - what am I missing?

I'm running 2.1 on a HTC Desire and I have a wierd problem with my contacts.Prior to purchasing my Desire I used a Nokia N96, all my contacts were stored on the SIM card which I just popped into my new Desire. If I go into Phone I see all my contacts with their numbers displayed underneath, however if I go to "People" I only see the contact with no number associated with it, if I go to edit a contact it does not show any number at all. Also if I send a text from another number (which is stored in "People") the text delivers and show only the number it was sent from, it does not link to the stored contact.I copied all SIM contacts to the Phone to see if this made any difference, alas it did not!

If I receive an email (use gmail) from someone that's not already in my contacts in people, is there a way to copy and paste or to add the address to my contacts in people without doing it manually?

The Gmail address book on the Web contains a field for birthdays, so why not the Android address book? While I'm sure the app could undergo a lot of changes (and everyone would have different ideas) something as basic as a birthday seems obvious.

Is there a way to somehow link a contact's address to a calendar event? For instance, if I have a meeting at Joe Bob's office, I'd like to be able to type in Joe Bob's name in the event location field on the calendar and have it insert the address for me, instead of having to switch to contacts, find Joe Bob, copy Joe Bob's address, switch back to calendar, and paste the address.

I want to use the Favorites App to make it easier to call frequently used numbers. However, I discovered that if I, for instance, put my best friend's cell phone number as a favorite icon I can no longer find his contact to add his home number to a favorites icon. The app seems to allow for only one favorite icon per contact. I am sure I am doing something wrong and there must be a way to have two favorite icons for the same contact but different phone numbers such as home and cell.In addition, sometimes when I add a contact to the Favorites app, the contact is no longer listed or searchable under People. Weird, no?

I have an app where I want to list all phone numbers and the associated contact name.I see that there is the Contacts.People table for the purpose of getting all phone numbers and that there is a PERSON_ID to allow me to lookup the contact in Contacts.People.Great.Now I see that all the columns I want are already joined to the Contacts.People.Phones table. But that seems lucky in this case. How could I do the equivalent of the above statement in general if the implementer of the content provider hadn't been so nice as to join for me?

1. How do I search for a contact from the people list? I don't want to have to scroll through all of them, but I don't see a search button other than the global search, and that does not seem to pull up contacts.
2. How do I get the facebook pictures on my contacts? I did the sync with Facebook, but it did not bring the pictures over, just the data.available in LauncherPro

I have 2 different calendars in google (each linked to a different google e-mail address) - one is for myself (primary calendar) and the other is for my kids.On my PC, both are visible when I am logged onto my primary account (this is the same account I have on my phone). On my phone, I see all of the primary calendar items and all of the secondary calendar items that I entered on my phone (nicely color coded by calendar). None of the secondary calendar items that were entered on my PC are viewable. On my PC I can see the secondary calendar items that I entered on my phone. At one point I could see everything on the phone, but now I have this obstacle.

Is there any way to actually show the address in "People"?If I enter someone's address then the contact has an option - "View home address" which opens the address in Google maps. However the only way to view the full address is to edit the contact or to look it up in google maps.Is there any way to get the address book to just show the full address?

A problem that I'm having is that I can't jump through the address book (people) by selecting a letter, I have to manually scroll through the entire address book to get to a phone number or contact that I want. On my old phone, there was an alphabetical slide bar, so that I could jump to any letter in my contacts. Now, when I want to call someone with a name starting with the letter Z, I have to manually scroll through my entire address book to get to that name.

Okay, I don't even know how to search for this question, so I am just going to ask it.
I've only been an Android/HTC Hero user for about a week now, and have a weird thing happening with my Hero. I've probably done something to cause this, but, I can't figure it out.
I have several contacts in my People list, and most of them have multiple phone numbers listed with them. When I choose People, and then say my sister, who has two mobile numbers, a work number and a home number, I get a small detailed card that pretty much fills the screen and allows me to choose a number to call mobile, call home, call work, then it says send message to each number, send email.
But, say when I choose my wife, I can only Call Other, Edit Contact, Delete Contact and Send Contact as vCard.
It didn't used to do this. It used to give me these choices for my wife too. My wife has a home number, a cell number, a truck number, I need to be able to text her cell, etc. Basically, I need the same options for her as I have for my sister.
I have the same issue with many of my contacts. I don't know what happened to cause this. Any help fixing this would be much appreciated. Hopefully, I won't have to do a master reset to do so!

My app had in intent-filter to respond when users click on a person's address in the contacts application.
In Android 1.5 I would get an intent with data like content://contacts/people/16/contact_methods/3
In order to retrive the address from the contact I would later I would do:
Cursor c = getContentResolver().query(intentUri, ...);
Get the column called "data" and take the address from there.
That stopped working on later android releases. On 2.0 all I get is:
content://com.android.contacts/data/4
And I do not know how to get the address form that. It fails when I query for it

With Google's voice action (or voice search), I can use the "navigate to" command to start the navigation app directly. However, this seems to work only with address, name of places. For example, I tried "navigate to 1234 main street" or "navigate to san jose airport" or "navigate to Starbucks on oakland road". The commands were recognized in all cases. For the last one, it prompted me with a list of choices for the end points, and once selected, proceeded correctly with the navigation.
However, if I say "navigate to John Doe home", although it also recognized the command correctly (i.e. it came up with the prompt "navigate to john doe home" and asked me to choose "go" or "cancel"), it would not come up with the correct address from the contact list as the end point to navigate to, but instead it would come up with a list of end points not related to John Doe at all, even if I have John Doe in my contact list (with the home address).
I googled around and it appeared that other users have also experienced similar problems, with some dating back 2-3 years ago. I just discovered this since I just switched from iPhone to a Samsung Skyrocket (with Gingerbread v2.3.6). Seems to be a simple problem to resolve. I can't believe that this problem is not (AFAIK) getting the attention of Google as I think this would be encountered by a lot of people.
Also I am wondering if there is a way to get around this beside giving the full address in the voice search command.

My wife has been playing with her new phone and needs some help with contact management.1, How can she keep the telephone contacts separated from her facebook contacts. Currently when she presses the phone button from her home page it seems to show all contacts. However when she goes to HTC People it is set to only show phone contacts not facebook contacts. 2, When you have facebook contacts how do you delete them? Do you have to remove them as a friend?I've changed my phone number on my facebook profile but it still shows on my wife's desire as my old number. She's tried removing me as a friend and re-adding me and it's still wrong.

In the standard contact list, I can only add 2 work numbers. I need to be able to add more. I have searched the market but that ones that I found only organize the contacts. Most will let you edit the contact but uses the standard app for editing. I know that the Samsung Moment can add many so maybe there is app out there.

I was wondering if there was a way to remove certain actions from the individual contact display in the HTC People app. It gives you the option of sending an MMS to all the phone numbers associated with the contact. It's confusing because I only ever want to MMS the mobile number.

I'm having an issue linking my wife to her Facebook profile in the contact "people." When she calls her number comes up. After I hang up, I try to "connect with person already in contacts" and it forces "People" to close. I tried to add her manually and it deleted it before my very eyes while I was within "people." I did it using the Google phonebook and not the phone's. Is there any issue with this, and what's the difference between the Google and Phone options (benefits, etc... ?).

I have had the SGS for a few days.
It must be possible to add more than one number to a contact, but I can't find it.
I thought that Samsung would have a better manual on the net, but I can't find that either.
Any ideas?
