HTC Incredible :: Just Rooted And Having Error With Recovery
Oct 28, 2010
I recently got a new droid incredible (my first phone besides the crapy razer) and my friends told me to root it. I used the guides on these fourms, rooted it, and apparently it worked (I have superuser and can download root only apps). The only problem is that everywere, it says recover once you root. Every time I've tried this, it just leads to a black screen with two white lights on each side. I've tried everything to fix it; I've looked at multiple threads and youtube vids, I even found an app that should sent it into Clockwork recovery mod, but even then it still had the problem. Does anyone know how to fix this, or should I just try un-rooting it (maby I did something wrong and it dosent say) and re-rooting it again?

I've been reading this forum for awhile but can't find a solution to my problem...
1. I rooted my 2 HTC Desires 2 months ago, what went fine. Have been able to install apps that request root. And on 1 Desire I have put the Nexus1 Froyo OS.
2. Now when receive a OTA: error
3. I tried the manual update: error
Both phones came from HTC directly, any Sim Card is useable on them.
I first get the error "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command", then I get:
"Verifying update package
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted."

When installing certain custom ROMs on rooted Android smartphones or tablets, you will encounter Status 7″ error issues once in awhile with ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery.Status 7 error is caused while the ROM's updater script file checks to see if the phone model of your phone is compatible with the ROM you are installing, called asserts.
Asserts is a safety mechanism so you don't accidentally install another phone model ROM on your phone. E.g. You tried to install Galaxy S2 ROM on a Galaxy S3 and ending up hard-bricking your phone but you got Status 7 error which saved you.this safety mechanism is great but there are times where even if you have the correct ROM for your phone, you will get Status 7 error.
This is due to an error by the developer of the ROM in the updater script, causing havoc, making people install another custom recovery like TWRP recovery for no reason. You can fix the issue by installing TWRP recovery but if you need to restore your CWM backups later down the line, you will have to re-install CWM recovery, causing a big hassle.
Also, if you update to the latest CWM Recovery using ROM Manager, usually this problem is fixed. But what if you did update to the latest CWM Recovery and still happens? And yes, it does happen even when you update your CWM recovery.
If you simply don't want to change your recovery (because if it ain't broke, don't fix it) or you still get Status 7 error after changing recovery, you can simply edit the updater script yourself to get rid of the asserts. All you need is a computer and a zipping program! (You might be able to even do it on your Android device with AndroZip and text editor but I haven't tried yet.) MAKE SURE THE ROM YOU ARE INSTALLING IS COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR ANDROID DEVICE AS INSTALLING WRONG ROM CAN BRICK YOUR DEVICE!
Make sure if you are installing a ROM on AT&T Galaxy S3, the ROM zip file you downloaded is for AT&T Galaxy S3 not for Verizon Galaxy S3.
Step 1. Copy the ROM zip file to your computer and extract it using your favorite unzipping software.
Step 2. Once unzipped, browse to the META-INF/com/Google/android directory. You will find two files called update-binary and updater-script.
Step 3. Rename updater-script to updater-script.txt and open with your favorite text file editor.
Step 4. Get rid of the line starting with assert to next semi-colon. Usually this is the first line or one of the first lines at the top of the text file. Just delete them.
Step 5. Save file.
Step 6. Rename updater-script.txt back to updater-script.
Step 7. Rezip all the files yo've unzipped.
Step 8. Copy the new, edited zip file to your phone.
Step 9. Try re-installing ROM, now it should install fine without Status 7 error.

I'm rooted the 2GB pny way and have the unrevoked recovery system on my phone. When verizon decides to let the ota/froyo/maintrelease (or whatever it's being called) as reported on bgr and here, what exactly do I need to do to get this as I should over the OTA?I am assuming I need to unroot (but why?) and restore the Recovery System, as well as remove any root programs from the phone.

I was messing around with root explorer and noticed that i was able to delete my boot animation with it when i was mounted as R/W so i thought i would try to copy one and it also works... so no need to push with adb shell.. here are the steps
1. take the boot animation make sure it is named bootanimation.zip and copy it to your SD card
2. then open root explore and mount R/W and then navigate to the file and press on file till the menu comes up and select copy
3. then navigate to data/local and paste the file in the local directory
and you are done, this can be done with the android_audio.mp3 file as well just paste it to the same place.
just thought this would make it easier for people instead of using adb shell

I got fed up of waiting and decided to root. I decided to go with 3rd wave 2.2 and everything went smooth. Now my question is if I want to try other Roms do I need to do anything special or just download to the SD card and repeat the same drill. Or do I need to do a recovery and or uninstall wave prior to installing a new rom?

Just rooted my DInc, trying to install ROMs using ROM Manager v2.5.0.3 but every time I select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" I get an error message stating: "Error while downloading from server. Please make sure that you have a stable internet connection, and that your SD card is inserted and has free space!" I have about 25gb left on the SD card which is most definitely inserted. Plus I have full 3g and have no problem downloading and installing ROM Manager as I reinstalled several times. Any way to fix this or do i have to install ROMs manually?

So i recently rooted my incredible and using rom manager i downloaded the skyraider 3.0 rc3 rom. This rom is really nice but the downside to it is that my navigation doesnt work. I search for directions and it stays on the screen saying "searching for gps" or somethin like that. what could i do to fix this without having to get rid of the rom(btw i already tried pulling the battery and techniques like that)next my sd card seems to have problems now. Whenever i want to download an app on the market, it says theres not enough space and whenever i want to download a rom from rom manager it starts to say download error. should i completely wipe my sd card and is that a bad idea because isnt the rom and all the root stuff of my phone on the sd card? please!

Just rooted yesterday, and everything was running great... untill I installed Simply Stunning v4.3. I went to make a back up and found that I cannot access my recovery, it was stuck at the M. Now Rom Manager says that if this happens, flash a different recovery then flash clockwork back. Here is the catch- When I try to flash a different recovery I get this, "An error occurred while flashing your recovery."

I heard there's a pre-rooted 2.1 image out there. Where can I find that? And I have SPRecovery installed, will installing the 2.1 image require me to reinstall SPRecovery?
Also, can SPRecovery then restore to and from 2.1 and 2.0.1?

ok, so I put the PB31IMG file on my sdcard, and the dinc_ota. I changed dinc_ota to update. (I did not name the file update.zip.zip) I powered down, I entered bootloader, and it loaded the PB31IMG and whatever. then I hit volume down and selected recovery. this brought me to clockwork recovery. I noticed the isntructions said to boot into STOCK recovery. well, I like a dummy ignored that and tried to apply the update.zip thru clockwork.
This is what I got:
CODE:.......................
So, is this because I tried doing it through clockwork recovery? is it because I didn't apply the first OTA update we got? what does that mean exactly anyways? is it saying I need to install the leaked froyo ROM, and then update the radio? How do I boot into stock recovery and not clockworks recovery? does this count as applying the update.zip once, meening if I do it again I'll brick my phone? should I sell this thing and get a samsung flip phone because I'm too stupid to own a Dinc?

I've used this guide for rooting and rooted him smooth BUT,when I do this step: 5. Run "Terminal Emulator". Type (press and hold menu to get the keyboard up) in the following: su (press enter and wait for the "Super User Request Prompt". Choose "Allow" and make sure its ticked to Allow every time.) flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img it replies: flash_image: not found.... (and i did typing OK,I tried with renamed and un-renamed file). OK,then I tried with Flash rec from this tutorial BUT.... Flash custom recovery is missing. There is only: download recovery image button, but blanked. I just don't get it,img file is in /sd/recovery.img or longer version: /sd/recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.2.

I have been lucky enough to been given a Huawei P1 and a P1 XL.
I have managed to root it successfully which is great but the rom on both does not come with Google Apps Suite.
I know it's possible to flash the gapps once rooted and you have a recovery on Huawei's as I have done this on my honour.
The Chinese recovery available for P1 doesn't work on my P1 or XL.
Is there any way to flash the gapps packaged without a recovery or to do it manually?

Hi there, I have recently got around to rooting my HTC Hero. I have rooted it via the Andoot software and flashed a recovery ROM via the Terminal Emulator. Upon rebooting the phone, I get into the Recovery Menu without any problems. However, if I then boot the phone back up, shutdown again, and then try to get into the Recovery Menu, I have faced with the red triangle with the explanation mark. Any ideas why? Basically, it seems I can only access the Recovery Menu on the first reboot.

So I have a ROOTED Eris (checked positively using terminal emulator) running a 2.1v3 ROM. What I'd like to do is eventually get to the 2.1 OTA ROM. Earlier I downloaded ROM Manager which, after some searching gave me some problems other people have been having. I can't flash to the ClockworkMod recovery image as it gives me a "Error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!" message. I tried reinstalling, fixing permissions etc. all with the same results. So now i'm trying to flash Amon's recovery image instead using Terminal Emulator and the command line: only to yield the message that the file could not be found or something. I'm on a mac and I saw another way on here that involves running commands from your computer to your phone using the skd. I started to do that only to run into a "permission denied" when attempting the first "adb" command line. Am I missing something? I'm trying to read and re-read as closely as I can. I'm not entirely comfortable with this whole process but I'm trying to take the time to really understand it and i'm still having difficulties.

So the other day I rooted my phone and it just keeps restarting on me. Cant get into recovery mode or anything. Now I gotta send this phone back to Verizon and I don't want to send it back with it being rooted cause I don't want to get charged for the phone. Now my question is how can I mess up my phone so Verizon don't know that I rooted my phone. This may sound dumb but I kinda need a way to fry it or something like that.

this WILL wipe your phone. Make a backup prior to doing this and of course im not responsible, blah blah blah Don't be an idiot either, you must be on Froyo 2.2 to restore an image of 2.2. So, to the question (Can I use this to update my 2.1 and have root). I've noticed that most people that CAN'T run it (MD5 error) are people that did a factory reset. What i would suggest to anyone else reading this, is if you know you have factory reset on 2.2, this probably will not work (by all means try). BUT if you WANT to run it that bad, do a data wipe, and THEN sbf. Root 2.1, update to 2.2, install koush's bootstrapper and try again. that will probably work. Credits to krayzee1 on alldroid for posting this. Mike919 we now have a clockwork recovery backup that you can recover to your phone. What does this give me? well it gives you a way to restore your phone to its default state but it has already been rooted and deodexed. If you dont know what root or deodexed are then please search around the forums.

I rooted my phone recently and installed the leaked 2.2 update.I ran Unrevoked as well as Unrevoked Forever, so I have S-OFF on my phone.I want to now put the official 2.2 release on my phone, while of course keeping my root.It would be best to keep my data on there, but if I have to run a Titanium backup and restore once it's installed, that's okay too.I just need to know the process to do this and where to get the update.I am running the leaked 2.2 Froyo update from May and I have the 2.05.00.06.11 radio.

I tried to install the r8-bravo-desire-modacocustomrom-withadditions-a2sd+-signed...! This rom got stuck on the white start up screen. I thought that if i cleared the sd card it would install but still the same thing then i just got the white htc screen which i cant get off and i cant load the recovery to change anything...! The sd card is working and i can get into the hboot and when it reads the sd card says wrong img! Is there something missing on the sd card? Have i bricked my phone? Any ideas on a fix?

Tried customizing a ROM the other day using dsixda's kitchen utility and after I built the ROM and signed it, I tried flashing. It would open the zip file no problem but after a few seconds while hanging on the installing update, it says error flashing update and there's a line stating "(status 0)". My guess is that I have done something wrong when customizing the ROM.
I have a Nexus S with CWM 5.0.2.3.

I was rooted my SGS i9000(XXJVS) with SuperOneClick 2.3.3 and successfully rooted my phone, but superuser did not been installed, so I installed from Android Market. Then I downloaded ROM manager, and selected "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". It has been downloaded, allowed superuser permissions, and ROM Manager wrote that it has been downloaded. But if I reboot into recovery mode, I get a message that writes:
Verifying update package... (meanwhile a bar fills up to about 15%)
E:failed to verify whole-filesignature
E:signature verification failed Installation aborted.
And I got a normal recovery mode. What should I do to install CWM? I only clicked "Root" button in SuperOneClick 2.3.3 and I didn't do any wipe data.

I rooted my stock 2.2 Evo a few days ago and have been loving CM6 on it. I had Clockwork Recovery 2.5.0.1 installed and finally got used to using it. I read that ROM manager was a nice graphical interface to CWR so I went to check it out. Unfortunately I couldn't do anything at all in it. Every time I tried to do anything it said I needed Clockwork Recovery installed. This confused me because it already was installed.
I would try to install it anyways, I would select "Evo CDMA" and then it would fail every time. I decided I would try to install Amon-Ra instead, and then just flash back. ROM Manager was able to flash Amon-Ra easily, but now still gives me an error every time I try to install Clockwork. I'm still new to the whole rooting scene and this is the first problem I've run into. Also, I already tried Fixing User Permissions.
