HTC EVO 4G :: Switching Root From Unprovoked Method
Oct 10, 2010I rooted using a video i found on you tube. the process involved using unprovoked and amon_ra, i downgraded to 2.1 and loaded a stock sense 2.2. However, as i was exploring and reading up on roms i saw that many people said that unprovoked was a bad way to go due to some problems. So now im scared to load any roms/themes. is there a way for me to switch my root from the unprovoked method to the other method?

Jul 29, 2010I decided to try to goto Froyo. I have never previously rooted before this experience. I followed the instructions here and on the Internets and was successfully able to update my phone in the following order: Now I am unable to *228 and program with either a 1 or a 2. The message "programming in progress" does come up but after about 10 seconds, the voice tells me that I cannot update at this time and I should call customer service. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to troubleshoot. I assume its due to the upgrade and not a coincidence.

HTC Incredible :: Dinc Root Guide Not Working
Nov 11, 2010Ok so I cant get my dinc rooted, not sure why I have done this and checked it You must install the HOOT-Capable Universal Drivers. This took me a while to figure out how to do this because there is no directions how to check the SD card. I did it by mounting as diskdrive, when I clicked on comp there where 3 new drives, I found the one that was 1.83 gig (my sd card) then I formated as fat32, went back in check it it was correct, then I went and mounted back to charge only as in directions Verify that you have an SD Card installed with at least 2Gb free space. If the SD is smaller than 4Gb, make sure it is FAT32 formatted. Look at it on your PC or Mac to be sure. Now I run unrevoked 3 let it sit for 30 minutes and it stalls out, I have run it 3 times with the same results, unrevoked says: waiting for root, (safe to restart if this doesn't work) also says recovery image clockworkmod recovery.

Nov 23, 2010I know, there are lots who are against one click roots. that said, I'm not fully sure I know why, and before I use ANY root method- I must be the slowest person on earth, I have been thinking about and considering and backing off from rooting for what seems like ages- I want to know everything I can about it. so, does the program work for the fascinate? is there a good reason NOT to try it? also- how hard is it (with any root method) to take the phone back to stock? yes, I know there is info on how to do this- I am not looking for detailed instructions- more like, opinions. how easy is it, did someone get hung up on any particular part of these processes, etc. honestly, I have the root files on my computer already for normal root- but keep chickening out. on the one hand, I hate the thought of voiding warranty on purpose- on the other hand, in all the years I have had phones and computers and other electronics, I have only ONCE had to use warranty, and then they said it was void anyway because they did not believe that the problem was due to a manufacturing problem(which it was) and I STILL had to pay for the repair. that all said, I get closer each day to rooting but I continue researching the subject (including the after rooting what to do stuff)

Sep 23, 2010Here's what I've figured out. I tried doing Toast's root method for linux and the directions weren't idiot proof because I screwed them up. I've explained how far I've gotten in other threads. If that's relevant just ask and I'll explain exactly what I did.
Anyway my phone does the basics. It allows me to make phone calls, text, and look at the internet on the phone so this isn't an emergency but it I am worse off than I was before I tried to root because I can no longer use easytether.
I had no problem with easytether prior to the root attempt, and it still works when I hook it up with my wifes untampered evo. with my phone but with my wife's evo, I've never messed with that one, I have no trouble connecting with easy tether.
Some of the things I've noticed about the device since the attmept...
-I can't update to 2.2 via the OTA or any other method, my device says no updates are available.
-Simple root wasn't so simple, the phone never shut off and rebooted into boot screen like the red screen said it would in step 1.
How do I reset the device to the way it was the day it was purchased. I've got everything I need backed up. I'm ready to reset just tell me how.

Nov 3, 2010Has anyone rooted their EVO using unprovoked for Linux? I'm attempting to do so, but it's not quite working. I downloaded unprovoked 3 for Linux and it started up fine. I put my Evo in debug mode and started the unprovoked process. The process seemed to start okay, and I ended up in the hboot screen. However, when I scroll down to the hboot usb option it seemed to be looking for pcdiag.xx (goes by too quickly). After a few seconds it just came back to the default hboot screen. I also got the following in my Linux terminal: unrEVOked recovery reflash tool git version: 4f78f67, ERROR: n = -1, errno = 19 (No such device), What am I missing? Everything I read indicates that all I need to do is run the unprovoked program. Is there something else I need to have?
