This post in AndroidGuys claims that the Epic 4G's Media Hub update will also work on other Galaxy S phones. Not that I care about the Media Hub that much but has anyone tried to apply the Epic 4G's Media Hub update to their non-Epic 4G Galaxy S phones? which leads to: Samsung Media Hub Update Also Works On Other Galaxy S Phones! | androidfeens.com Edit: Never mind I saw another thread on the same subject.... sorry for posting it again..

In the end I found it fairly easy to root my samsung epic 4g galaxy sph-d700 but the documentation was a bit tricky (because some of it was based on odin rather than heimdall, it wasn't always clear where to get ROM's, how ClockWorkMod Recovery (CWM) fits into the picture, etc.).
(1) Install heimdall on the computer running ubuntu (heimdall is a program that will flash ROM's to the phone) apt-get install heimdall-flash
(2) Download to the computer the latest CWM and an appropriate, i.e., pre-rooted, ROM from an archive such as that of kennyglass123. BML ROM's may be easier for beginners than are MTD ROM's. The ROM should be matched to the phone, which means both the hardware and the system it is replacing. I used cwm-5.0.2.7-epic4g.tar (ClockWorkMod Recovery; extract its contents) Deodexed-FC09-BML.zip (a ROM and system for the android phone; leave the file zipped)
(But ThePeoplesROMv2.22_BML.zip has also been recommended and there are others in circulation).
(3) Connect the android phone to the computer via USB cable; the phone should show up on the desktop as a removable disk. Transfer the ROM file (Deodexed-FC09-BML.zip) from the computer to the sd card of the phone (just as you would transfer any file, e.g., an mp3, by drag and drop or by copying from the command line from/to the appropriate directory).
(4) On the computer extract recovery.bin from the CWM tarfile tar xvf cwm-5.0.2.7-epic4g.tar (I renamed recovery.bin to cwm5_recovery.bin to remind myself what it is.)
(5) Disconnect and turn off the phone and restart the phone in Download mode by turning off the phone and turning it on while holding down the number "1" on the physical keyboard. "Download" mode starts (black screen with yellow triangle with worker digging).
(6) Connect the phone to the computer by USB cable. From the computer use heimdall to flash the CWM file to the phone as a recovery file. Flashing is not the same as file transfer: phone must be in Download mode and the heimdall program must be used to flash the file onto the phone's ROM. The command is:
heimdall flash --recovery cwm5_recovery.bin
(7) Disconnect the phone and restart phone with on/off, camera, and volume-down buttons ("three-fingered salute"). Hold all three buttons until the lighted buttons at the bottom of the phone turn on. Phone will start in "Recovery" mode with a menu of 7-10 items.
(8) Navigate the Recovery menu with the volume up/down keys and select items with the camera button. Select item "Install zip from sdcard". Navigate file menu to choose Deodexed-FC09-BML.zip (or another zipped ROM file you have selected). ROM will install.
(9) When the Recovery mode menu returns, select "Reboot phone" and the phone should boot (slowly the first time) to the new ROM and be rooted. There will be a new "Superuser" app on the phone and you should be able to install apps from the Play Store that require root privileges.

Does anyone know if there is an app like LockerPicker that works on the Epic? I have it on my Hero so that I don't have to enter my PIN(that is required by my work exchange server) everytime I wake up my phone. I am thinking about getting the Epic and was just wondering if anything like this is out there.

I know, there are lots who are against one click roots. that said, I'm not fully sure I know why, and before I use ANY root method- I must be the slowest person on earth, I have been thinking about and considering and backing off from rooting for what seems like ages- I want to know everything I can about it. so, does the program work for the fascinate? is there a good reason NOT to try it? also- how hard is it (with any root method) to take the phone back to stock? yes, I know there is info on how to do this- I am not looking for detailed instructions- more like, opinions. how easy is it, did someone get hung up on any particular part of these processes, etc. honestly, I have the root files on my computer already for normal root- but keep chickening out. on the one hand, I hate the thought of voiding warranty on purpose- on the other hand, in all the years I have had phones and computers and other electronics, I have only ONCE had to use warranty, and then they said it was void anyway because they did not believe that the problem was due to a manufacturing problem(which it was) and I STILL had to pay for the repair. that all said, I get closer each day to rooting but I continue researching the subject (including the after rooting what to do stuff)

Mine works fine but I'm curious. Coming from Blackberry I'm scratching my head. BB works by using a BB server as a proxy. I have a pop3 account set up. Now I understand how it sends when I am at home as the wifi is feeding my isp's broadband which is where my Pop3 account resides. But when I leave wifi it still sends
If I do the same thing with a laptop and go to another WiFi spot provided by a different ISP my email will receive but not send- unless I change the outgoing server to that WiFi provider's. I would have presumed that over 3G that I'd have the same issue - as the phone companies outgoing sever is handling my email? Or am I missing something.

I recently got the SGS and I'm loving it, except the supplied headset which is not very good IMO. So i'm looking for an alternate headset with microphone to replace but for some weird reason all the ones I've tried work perfectly for media playback but not for phonecalls, voice just doesn't get routed to the headset unless it's the supplied one. Has anyone found a third-party headset that works?

We have root access even before the phone is officially released. When the phone is officially launched, Samsung hopefully release its source code and we'll have access to even more goodies. Perhaps source drivers *crosses fingers*. adb root exploit - test

Which is better out of the 2 and why? Both have key differences and some may or may not like the depending on what differences they prefer. Main differences I can think of are these:
- Galaxy s is thinner while the Epic has the Qwerty slider
- Epic has a flash for the camera and Wimax connectivity
- Software wise, the Epic is missing a lot of features of touch wiz. There are more differences like design of the phones, theirf networks, etc. But I don't have time to list them all right now.

Does anyone know if the "MR1 DG27" update that's available for the Epic fix the root exploit? I'm tempted to update but I don't want to end up with an un-rootable phone!
EDIT: Whoops, sorry should have posted in the Rooting sub-forum! Could a Mod kindly move this thread?

I successfully rooted my phone tonight. No problems there.
I successfully installed the Epic Experience v1.1.10 ROM. Everything seems to have installed properly.
All seems to be well, so I went to install Titanium Backup to restore all of my apps from my stock Epic. The installation went fine. I try to run the app for the first time, and I get the following error: "Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again".
So I know that my root included BusyBox, because I was able to install and run it on the stock ROM. But just for kicks, I clicked "Problems?" and downloaded the version it says will work. No difference.
I have rebooted the phone several times. Makes no difference.
I have deleted and re-installed Titanium Backup. Makes no difference.

The Samsung Galaxy S has just received the honor of being the first Android phone to be certified by DivX for HD video playback. You now have the official blessing from DivX to load up your (legal) 720p video files on your Galaxy S phone and enjoy your media on the go.With the phones DLNA and microUSB connections you will also be able to sync up with other DivX certified devices and enjoy your videos on your large screen TV. Currently, the only other phone to receive certification from DivX for HD playback is Bada powered Samsung Wave. With developers pushing out more Android handsets with larger screens, we should expect to see DivX handing out more HD certifications over the next few months.

I quickly glanced at those forums, but didn't spend a whole lot of time reading. It seems some people had issues with defective phones that needed replacing, sometimes multiple times. I don't see that as ultimately a problem with the phone though, such as a design flaw that can't be fixed without more R&D.From time to time I see people posting something along the lines of "I'll never buy another Samsung product again" due to lack of support issues, or whatever, on some of the newer phone models. Personally, I had an i730 and it was the best phone you could get during its time.Has anyone closely followed what the AT&T and T Mobile Galaxy S owners are saying? The main gripe I've heard is that there's a GPS software issue for some users, but there's supposed to be a workaround, and supposedly a fix in an update.

I've had an app on the market for over a year. Recently customers have been reporting a crash; all customers have been running Android 2.1 or 2.2 (note sure if the crash is limited to those platforms tho; interesting that this does work on the simulator but not physical devices. Maybe devices renamed the component name of the image gallery?). The crash occurs when I attempt to lauch the Image Gallery app.
Is there a preferred method to launching the Image Gallery?
I use the following code.
CODE:.............
How to fix this or a new method to launch the Image Gallery?
