View 1 RepliesSo based on early looks at android 2.2 Froyo, there will be a mobile hotspot feature. If and when the HTC incredible gets 2.2, is it possible to add this feature via the software or is it hardware dependent?

View 38 Replies View RelatedI just got a WiFi IPad so i'm wanting to wireless tether. I already had PDNet for my notebook but of course thats not going to work for the IPad. I looked at the 3G Hotspot feature on the incredible and of course i tried it just to see if it would work and it doesn't. You just get a verizon page when you try to browse the web. I know in the past you had to root to be able to tether wirelessly. With Froyo does that still hold true or is there some type of app you can download off the android marketplace? I don't know if i'm big on rooting my phone. Verizon i think will charge $20 for the convenience right?

View 8 Replies View Relatedi just rerooted from cyanogen to skyraider 2.5.2. When i opened my app drawer I noticed the 3g mobile hotspot app. I was wondering if I can use that without being charged or do i have to add that feature through verizon because that is what it says when i start it up. is it just a free service that is added as a perk with this rom or should i stay away from using it?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI've searched but can't find anything answering this question, just people talking about how to use it. Owners of other phones are telling me it will cost me to use Mobile Hotspot, but is that true?
View 44 Replies View RelatedHow much do you think Verizon will charge for the mobile hotspot feature when it comes to the incredible via froyo? Considering the pre has the service for free.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently rooted my Incredible and installed Cyanogen 6.00 RC3. I liked some things about it but missed some of the stock HTC widgets and apps. The Cyanogen rom had wifi hot spot, and it worked great. I could connect more than one computer to it, as it acted like a Hotspot.
Today i reflashed to Virtuous 2.7 Rom, which is alot like the stock 2.2. I got back the things I missed in Cyanogen but no wifi hotspot. Instead, there is "Wireless Tethering" which doesn't seem to work. The latest version is installed, version 2.0.5-pre9. Neither of my computers can "see" the connection.
Is there any way I can get the wifi hot spot app that was in Cyanogen and install it on my phone with the Virtuous 2.7 Rom? wireless tethering really doesn't do what I want it to.
I am a new member here, just joined a few days ago. I've had my HTC Incredible (Verizon) for about 2-3 weeks and so far I love it. I've been reading these forums every day, multiple times a day ever since I joined here a few days ago, but haven't posted anything yet. I remember the first day I joined here I saw a thread that was discussing a custom Froyo ROM that you could install on your phone that would NOT root your phone. However, I also saw one that allowed free hotspot tethering, that didn't accrue any charges from Verizon Wireless, unless I am mistaken, but I beleive I did read that someone where on here. I'm not looking for someone to walk me through how to install, or root the phone or anything like that, I understand all the inns and outs of doing that.....I provide PC technical support for a living, working on my B.S. degree in Computer Science, so I'm pretty fluent in the technical aspects of working the phone and rooting and all of that, I was just trying to have someone point me in the right direction to the Foryo update.zip/rom that you could install on your phone that would do the following two options:1. I would prefer the version that doesn't root the phone, but instead just installs, if I have to end up rooting the phone that's fine, I would just prefer not to only because of possibly voiding the warranty, not because I'm afraid of screwing it up haha, I feel perfectly comfortable doing it if I must.2. I read one of these allowed free hotspot tethering and also got rid of Verizon's bloatware as well, I don't know if all of these are found all in one custom rom, but if they are that would be great if you could point me in the direction where I can download it at.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWith 2 million ipads sold, I don't understand VZW's rationale for not offering some kind of wifi hotspot app that you'd pay $30/month for on a month by month basis. It seems like it would be such an easy money maker.
View 18 Replies View RelatedI want to do is set up my HTC Incredible (currently running official HTC Sense/Froyo) as a wifi hotspot (not paying verizon $20 for 2GB/month, and not usb tethering.. need wifi).
Unfortunately, even though stock Froyo 2.2 supports free wifi hotspot, the official (un-rooted) froyo for the incredible forces you to pay $20/month to verizon to use as a wifi hotspot.
I'm assuming this is correct, but I just wanted to make sure: If I root my phone, then I will be able to install a rom and use it's built-in free wifi hotspot capabilities using my data connection, right?
Also, is there a rom that has HTC Sense, as well as free wifi hotspot capability? I would like to keep using HTC Sense over "stock" Froyo, and still be able to use free wifi hotspot capability if possible.
How exactly do I add devices to the allowed users list? I tried to connect my ipod touch and a notification came up and said a device wanted to connect. I pressed the notification and it brought me to the manage users screen but the options were greyed out.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen you are running the 3G mobile hotspot you have the ability to manage users, like an ACL (access control list). This option is grayed out and isn't configurable. There is a update file leaked before Froyo for the DINC which made 3G mobile hotspot available. It also gave permission to 'allow users only'. Does anyone know how to change the current behavior and make the option available?

View 26 Replies View RelatedI just got off the phone with a Sprint Customer Care Specialist who kept insisting on telling me that I could only use the hotspot option if I had a 4G signal. That if I only was getting a 3G signal that I would not be able to activate the hotspot. I asked her several times if she was sure this was correct because I was under the impression that you just needed a data signal in order to set up a hotspot and it didn't matter if it was 3G or 4G. She put me on hold twice to confirm and came back with the same answer. This isn't right, is it?
View 34 Replies View RelatedI know Sprint's hotspot feature is to use the EVO "Wirelessly" with up to 8 diff. devices and that is what the $30 charge is for if you want to use that feature. It's my understanding that "Tethering" is a different thing where u directly connect your EVO to a laptop and use the "Internet Sharing" mode that way with only that device. I don't pay the extra $30 so i dont have hotspot for my EVO but I am able to Tether my phone to my laptop. Ive read that tethering is not allowed on the sprint network without purchasing the Hotspot feature and i can have my contract terminated if i continue to use tethering with my EVO. IS THAT TRUE? Is the tethering feature with the EVO at this point, just a feature that has not been disabled or patched yet or is it infact supported by sprint without needing to buy the Sprint Hotspot feature?????? And if it is freely available is there a cap to how much data i can use while tethering? cause you know, i do pay the damn """ $10 premium charge""" for each EVO on my account..
View 38 Replies View RelatedSo have had my Evo since end of june using my hotspot 2 power up my laptops and ps3 no problems got 4g and hotspot going at the same time than I download 2.2 and every time i power up the hotspot the 4g drops out. I call sprint and dude tells me i was one of the lucky ones that got my hotspot for free? for the first month but now its gonna be 29.95 if i wanna use the hotspot? hello thats why i bought the fn thing? He said he would give me one more month for no charge but thats his final offer! I decline and ask him to give me the president so he can tell me why sprint is sticking it 2 me once again! Does the 2.2 software allow them to turn the hotspot one and off again at will? Until I figure this all out im leaving my other evo on 2.1.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've seen a lot of scattered comments about this subject, but it all seems inconsistent. I would absolutely love to have my phone be a wireless hotspot for my computer. However, I'd like to do this without being charged from sprint. Now I know this is obviously something sprint wouldn't want their customers to do so I have two main questions:
1) Do you absolutely have to root your phone for it to be able to act as a hotspot for free?
2) If so, what would be the negative effects of rooting your phone. I'm assuming it would void warranty. Anything else?
Is there a way to set up a wireless hotspot without rooting my phone? I'm on the new Android 2.2 release for the EVO.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo we've heard that Froyo will include a wireless hotspot. Is this something that Sprint can/will be blocking?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having a strange problem with the Sprint mobile hotspot. When I am in a 4G area, my phone picks up and uses 4G with no problem. However, the instant I turn on the mobile hotspot, the 4G connection drops, and the phone reverts to 3G. The moment I turn off the hotspot, the phone goes back to 4G. If I turn the hotspot on/off from the Wireless & networks settings page, I can see that the instant the hotspot finishes initializing, the 4G line goes to "disconnected." It then goes to scanning and then sits at "obtaining IP address" for several seconds, at which point it starts that cycle over again. It goes through this cycle repeatedly until I turn off the hotspot, never getting past the "obtaining IP address" stage.I called Sprint tech support, and the best they came up with was to do a hard reset and see if that resolved the issue. Before I do that, I would like to see if anyone here has any idea what might cause this issue and how to resolve it short of a hard reset. I am running the official OTA froyo OS version. The update was pushed out the day after I got my Evo, so I do not know if this issue existed in 2.1.
