View 4 RepliesI recently rooted my EVO. I tried Barnacle Wifi Tether, which was connecting me at 11 mbps but was not able to view any web pages. I then tried Wireless Tether and was able to connect at only 11-24 mbps. I have had the Sprint Mobile Hotspot up until now, but was getting 54 mbps out of that.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI mainly love my Evo just the way it is, with only 1 drawback. I hate having to reconnect each time i unplug my phn from my laptop at work using easytether or pdanet. So like many others, i want wireless tethering w/o a $30 monthly fee. I've been reading up on root posts (mainly unrevoked), and have noticed it mentioned that some ROM's have a "wireless tether" or "hotspot" built in. What's the difference in the two, arent they the same? I see "Wireless Tether" in the market for root users, isn't that the same as the "hotspot" feature or am i missing something? It'd be pretty nifty to utilize my phn as a hotspot for 2-3 others in my office to connect to when needed as well.I don't really care to flash a custom ROM, as i'm content in the configuration i already have, but i would like to get rid of the bloatware and have it "frozen" so to speak. Does this have any improvement on battery life? I typically get about 15+/- hrs a day as is before i have to charge back up, and don't want to chance ruining that by trying a custom kernel/ROM that may/may not tweak the battery life. I've read too many mixed reviews to feel it's justified, so i mainly want to kill off "zone", "stocks", "navigation", "people", etc etc that run without me needing it. Does it help battery life to only freeze the bloatware with Titanium Backup and then just redo my current launcher pro screens/settings?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI feel like I have done enough reading on knowing how to preform the root on my phone, but I am just curious as to how I get different features like wireless tether, or any tether for that matter, without having to download easytether or PDAnet. Is hot spot even available on our phones?
Do custom kernels have these features built in? If so, what is a good kernel to use with OMJ's post on rooting the droid without RSDlite?
I really just want my phone to act like it acts and look like it looks now, just have additional features and maybe overclock it a bit.
What are the differences and/or advantages to using Wireless Tether vs. "hacked" 3G Hotspot, which I've been seeing people talk about recently? I was under the impression that Wireless Tether is a free option for wireless hotspot capability - is using the hacked 3G hotspot less detectible or something?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got a WiFi IPad so i'm wanting to wireless tether. I already had PDNet for my notebook but of course thats not going to work for the IPad. I looked at the 3G Hotspot feature on the incredible and of course i tried it just to see if it would work and it doesn't. You just get a verizon page when you try to browse the web. I know in the past you had to root to be able to tether wirelessly. With Froyo does that still hold true or is there some type of app you can download off the android marketplace? I don't know if i'm big on rooting my phone. Verizon i think will charge $20 for the convenience right?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently rooted my Incredible and installed Cyanogen 6.00 RC3. I liked some things about it but missed some of the stock HTC widgets and apps. The Cyanogen rom had wifi hot spot, and it worked great. I could connect more than one computer to it, as it acted like a Hotspot.
Today i reflashed to Virtuous 2.7 Rom, which is alot like the stock 2.2. I got back the things I missed in Cyanogen but no wifi hotspot. Instead, there is "Wireless Tethering" which doesn't seem to work. The latest version is installed, version 2.0.5-pre9. Neither of my computers can "see" the connection.
Is there any way I can get the wifi hot spot app that was in Cyanogen and install it on my phone with the Virtuous 2.7 Rom? wireless tethering really doesn't do what I want it to.
But I am running my laptop with wireless tether. I love this phone. Hopefully my batteries last.
View 11 Replies View RelatedHow does wireless tether work? I know that it can receive a WiFi signal but it can also transmit one? Just curious. Also, is the new WiFi tether coming in the OTA going to be faster than the root one? The root WiFi tether is fine, but I most certainly wouldn't mind faster.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI rooted my incredible and have wireless tether. I'm able to connect my laptop to the incredible viawifi tether, but for some reason my computer says ther is no internet connection.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried to search but couldn't find any info on how to get wireless tether working using a mac with os x on it. All the guides online have instructions for windows and i can't make sense of the gobblity gook.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have the leaked 2.2, and Wireless Tether is not working anymore. It says that I am connected, but there's no internet. Does Wireless Tether not work with the leaked 2.2?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSuccess! Wireless tether in AP Mode (NOT ad-hoc) + WPA2 Encryption - xda-developers. Tried this out and it works cool. Refer to link for instructions. Give credit where credit is due.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI know there was another thread on this topic that linked to the XDA forum but that thread is more about loading a specific kernel to enable AP Tether. I like Hydra's new kernels and you can do the same thing with them as well. I attempted to install the newest version of Wireless Tether from the market but it did not allow AP mode. So I found it's necessary, as verified elsewhere, to install the (wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre3.apk) version.
Once I did this and added the bin file, it worked great. WPA2 security is also included in this version. So to make it easy, I just created a zip that's already called Android.tether and has the required .apk and .bin already inside for AP Tether. This is not supported with the stock kernel, check to see if your kernel of choice supports it if you are in question. I can for sure verify the Hydra OCUV 1.113 ghz v0.8 kernels.

what exactly does access control do on the wireless tether app, and how do i set it up? i would think it locks out all but the mac addresses you specify, but even when i have it enabled it seems to let everyone in (tested with both my laptop and ipod touch)...
View 1 Replies View RelatedStock ROM and rooted phone wireless tether worked fine. Installed jager chocolate ROM wireless tether stopped working. went back to stock ROM wireless worked again while on vacation. Tried jager 1.73 today same problem wireless tether stopped working?
View 4 Replies View RelatedFinally broke down and rooted tonight.Picked up Wireless Tether from the market, had everything set kept getting limited access messages on my laptop.Did some searching and came across the solution to manually download the apk and a .bin file and put it in the android.tether directory on sd card. Was finally able to connect from my laptop. However, my connection is limited to "local only".I have tried using the access control, disabling access control, turning on encryption, disabling encryption, etc.Every time I connect, local only.I've flushed my IP info on the laptop and still local only. What do I need to do to get full access?

I tried to manually input my SSID and still nothing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI rooted my phone w/ unrevoked3. Downloaded Wireless Tether App. Allowed Superuser access etc. When I "start tethering" my computer can pick it up and connect but it says no Internet access. Am I missing something here?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo my phone is rooted. I installed the wireless tether on my phone. I ran it...turned it on and it was running but my laptop is not picking it up. I havent change any settings at all. So what do I have to do to be able to use the wireless tether on my phone with my laptop?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed the leaked OTA, rooted my phone, and installed wireless tether, but now my phone will no longer switch out of 3g and into Wifi mode?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAny suggestions on how to get it to work? it used to before i switched to the newest leaked 2.2 rom (8/26 or 27 i think) with the bloatware already uninstalled.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having issues getting the 2 wifi tethering programs to work correctly. I just rooted for the firstt time today. Both programs start up correctly and allow me to enable to wifi tethering but I can't get any device to see the wifi connection they are creating. I have tried both scanning for the network and trying to manually connect to it by typing in the SSID but I can't get any device to see the network. I am using a Droid X with the official 2.2 update rooted.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe main reason i wanted a rooted phone was so i could connect to my laptops ad hoc network and use a program for wireless keyboard and mouse. i cant really afford the real thing at the moment and with my laptop hooked up to my flat screen its kind of necessary to have..
So ive rooted my phone and tried a few roms. currently i have this one: [ROM] [05/18/2010] Tainted Vanilla V1.4 OVERCLOCKED - xda-developers
I always run into the same problem though. wired or wireless, i cant get it to connect right. wired never works in any way but i dont really care about that. wireless however shows some signs of working. it shows some data has been sent, not received though. and my computer will detect and connect to it, but seems to lose the signal after a few moments. when i bring up a browser it doesnt even look like something might load. it just says im offline. could someone help me with this?
The other part of this problem is i really just want to connect to my computers ad hoc network and use a wireless keyboard and mouse program. none of them seem that great unfortunately.. recommendations are appreciated. but my biggest issue is that i cant seem to connect to an ad hoc network. i believe my phone detected it only once while i was on the "white widow" rom, but could never quite connect..
I hate my AT&T service and want to switch to verizon. I also love my buddies n1, but I need a phone that can make a 3g hotspot. I have jail broken iphone as well as a jail broken Ipad that does the job right now. It really makes the devices worth owning I use my ipad for everything now. Anyway love the droid incredible just need to know the best phone to hotspot tether. I know I can do it with the htc imagio or what ever but who wants a windows 6.5 phone, when their are android phones available.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've seen a lot of scattered comments about this subject, but it all seems inconsistent. I would absolutely love to have my phone be a wireless hotspot for my computer. However, I'd like to do this without being charged from sprint. Now I know this is obviously something sprint wouldn't want their customers to do so I have two main questions:
1) Do you absolutely have to root your phone for it to be able to act as a hotspot for free?
2) If so, what would be the negative effects of rooting your phone. I'm assuming it would void warranty. Anything else?
Is there a way to set up a wireless hotspot without rooting my phone? I'm on the new Android 2.2 release for the EVO.
