View 8 Repliesi just rerooted from cyanogen to skyraider 2.5.2. When i opened my app drawer I noticed the 3g mobile hotspot app. I was wondering if I can use that without being charged or do i have to add that feature through verizon because that is what it says when i start it up. is it just a free service that is added as a perk with this rom or should i stay away from using it?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI've searched but can't find anything answering this question, just people talking about how to use it. Owners of other phones are telling me it will cost me to use Mobile Hotspot, but is that true?
View 44 Replies View RelatedHow exactly do I add devices to the allowed users list? I tried to connect my ipod touch and a notification came up and said a device wanted to connect. I pressed the notification and it brought me to the manage users screen but the options were greyed out.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen you are running the 3G mobile hotspot you have the ability to manage users, like an ACL (access control list). This option is grayed out and isn't configurable. There is a update file leaked before Froyo for the DINC which made 3G mobile hotspot available. It also gave permission to 'allow users only'. Does anyone know how to change the current behavior and make the option available?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo based on early looks at android 2.2 Froyo, there will be a mobile hotspot feature. If and when the HTC incredible gets 2.2, is it possible to add this feature via the software or is it hardware dependent?
View 13 Replies View RelatedHas anyone gotten the Incredible to act as a wifi hotspot? Does this require root?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI want to do is set up my HTC Incredible (currently running official HTC Sense/Froyo) as a wifi hotspot (not paying verizon $20 for 2GB/month, and not usb tethering.. need wifi).
Unfortunately, even though stock Froyo 2.2 supports free wifi hotspot, the official (un-rooted) froyo for the incredible forces you to pay $20/month to verizon to use as a wifi hotspot.
I'm assuming this is correct, but I just wanted to make sure: If I root my phone, then I will be able to install a rom and use it's built-in free wifi hotspot capabilities using my data connection, right?
Also, is there a rom that has HTC Sense, as well as free wifi hotspot capability? I would like to keep using HTC Sense over "stock" Froyo, and still be able to use free wifi hotspot capability if possible.
Android Version: 2.2 T-Mobile branded
Network: Base - a brand of e-plus, Germany
Taskiller Used: None
Issue: Switch on tethering OR mobile hotspot ->mobile network dies
I've installed Froyo on a T-Mobile branded Desire. After the update, turning on USB tethering leads to immediate loss of mobile network - it just turns itself off. Same goes for the mobile Wifi hotspot: turn on -> for 2 seconds, it's working -> mobile network drops off. Moving into airplane mode and back brings back the network, but tethering is a goner. With 2.1, USB tethering had worked. I'm on Base, a brand of e-plus. I've talked to their customer services, they say Base absolutely supports tethering.
I am having a strange problem with the Sprint mobile hotspot. When I am in a 4G area, my phone picks up and uses 4G with no problem. However, the instant I turn on the mobile hotspot, the 4G connection drops, and the phone reverts to 3G. The moment I turn off the hotspot, the phone goes back to 4G. If I turn the hotspot on/off from the Wireless & networks settings page, I can see that the instant the hotspot finishes initializing, the 4G line goes to "disconnected." It then goes to scanning and then sits at "obtaining IP address" for several seconds, at which point it starts that cycle over again. It goes through this cycle repeatedly until I turn off the hotspot, never getting past the "obtaining IP address" stage.I called Sprint tech support, and the best they came up with was to do a hard reset and see if that resolved the issue. Before I do that, I would like to see if anyone here has any idea what might cause this issue and how to resolve it short of a hard reset. I am running the official OTA froyo OS version. The update was pushed out the day after I got my Evo, so I do not know if this issue existed in 2.1.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a 4G Sonic T-mobile hotspot (hockey puck type of device) working fine tethered to my Desktop, working via Wifi to my laptop and my iPad. No issues there. I also have an original Moto Droid on the VZW network, rooted, but no mods.
The Droid connects via Wifi to my Home Network (a Linksys Wifi Router), and other WiFi networks when I'm on the road. However I can't get it to connect to the T-Mobile 4G Hotspot. I know that's crazy, thinking I might get 4g internet speed out of an old original Droid, but technically it should work right?
Basically the Droid sees the hotspot, connects for a split second then gets dropped/disconnected. Or it's a settings issue and despite trying a million different settings.
I'm wondering if there's something in either device, or perhaps both, that recognizes one is a VZW device, the other a T-Mobile device, and it keeps me from making the connection. what might be keeping these two devices from connecting?
I recently rooted my EVO. I tried Barnacle Wifi Tether, which was connecting me at 11 mbps but was not able to view any web pages. I then tried Wireless Tether and was able to connect at only 11-24 mbps. I have had the Sprint Mobile Hotspot up until now, but was getting 54 mbps out of that.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI seem to remember the first time I opened the hotspot app on my phone it said it costs 20 dollars a month and then closed. I heard the update refreshed it somehow so I was just glancing around and decided to take a look. well after going through some settings it started, I immediately closed the app afraid I had charged 20 dollars but I am wandering if it still costs if they got rid of the notification that it costs, I thought you had to subscribe to it before you ran it so does that mean it's free now?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs anyone experiencing slow connection speeds when using the EVO mobile hotspot. From the Evo phone itself, I am getting 2 - 3 Mb/s download speeds. When I connect my laptop or ipad, I am getting max 500 kb/s download speeds on them. The phone continues to get 2 - 3 Mb/s download speeds while hotspot is on. I have tried different wireless security settings but all seem to exhibit the same behavior. Any thoughts on how to rectify this? I am assuming the mobile hotspot should be providing download speeds comparable with the native EVO connection.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed the 4.3 Jelly Bean update and now my connection is giving me trouble.
Most web pages crash without loading all the way. I can't connect to my mobile hotspot. When I look at my RAM, it seems the phne is using 70-80% of max all the time.
I turn the thing on so that I can connect my computer to the internet then upon turning it off, my phone wont send emails thru my yahoo account or sometimes it wont send them thru my yahoo or my exchange email. They just sit in my outbox. Then I can't open them again to save them to be sent later, I only have the option of deleting them. I pull out my battery and then most of the time its all better but I shouldnt have to be doing this. I am starting to have flashbacks of my Blackberry Storm and pulling the battery every 10 minutes. Why is this happening and how can I fix it? I place this task at the feet of all who possess the knowledge...step forth and share with me your wisdom!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI feel like I have done enough reading on knowing how to preform the root on my phone, but I am just curious as to how I get different features like wireless tether, or any tether for that matter, without having to download easytether or PDAnet. Is hot spot even available on our phones?
Do custom kernels have these features built in? If so, what is a good kernel to use with OMJ's post on rooting the droid without RSDlite?
I really just want my phone to act like it acts and look like it looks now, just have additional features and maybe overclock it a bit.
1. I am currently using unlimited data plan, and I am wondering if Using mobile Hotspot and GPS charges me any extra cost.
2. [Since Its not me who pay for my phonebill, so I dont know exactly what plan I am using, but as I checked it on "My Verizon App", It comes out 28897kb/ULMT. It is saying that I am using unlimited data plan. right?]

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe best WiFi/BT tether/hotspot app out there has just added support for the EVO 4G about half an hour ago. Of course, root is required but it's just one click away with unrevoked. Forget Sprint's $30 a month tether - this one is free and supported by the community. This is why I love Android.
