View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm bout to root, and wanna run a Hydra kernel, but I wanna know if the recent OTA could mess with the way the kernels work. More specifically the fact that the OTA brought 802.11N with it, yet the kernel has the option for it. Should I not use the Hydra with N? Just want to make sure having the OTA won't mess with any functionality of a custom kernel.
View 8 Replies View RelatedFlashing kernals is new to me although general rooting is not. Apparently with my new Inc I have the slcd which will only work with a few kernals. What I had to do to get some new ROMs working was flash the ROM, then flash a specific kernal before booting up. That worked and I was able to flash some ROMs that I was not previously able to use. It has come to my attention that there are some kernals out there that are better for battery life so my questions are:
1) If I want to flash a new kernal over my existing ROM can I just do that? Boot into recovery and flash the new kernal? (After a nandroid of course.) Or do I have to flash the ROM again, then flash the new kernal and then boot up? Do I need to wipe anything before flashing a new kernal?
2) What are the best kernals for battery life that work with the slcd screen?
I rooted my Droid incredible 2 days ago so bare with me as I am still trying to understand all this new terminology and get the fullest use out of my phone. I was wondering about Kernals, overclocking and underclocking. I would like to increase my battery life as we all know how crappy it can be under normal use. I am running Skyraider 3.3 now because I enjoy the stock look of the HTC sense and I am using ADW.launcher as well. I downloaded a kernal for Skyraider but I can't tell what the speeds are and change them up. I saw a program called setcpu for rooted users on the market. Anyone have any experience with this app and is it worth the money? I am not wanting to slow down the performance of my phone but I still want to be able to have a good battery life. Anyone have any suggestions for a kernal to use or anyone using setcpu have a suggestions for a good speed to use.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI ask for some clarification on ROMs, radios, bootloaders and kernals.I am currently running a rooted stock incredible. I want to try CM6, the 2.2 leak, and the 2.2 lite or Sky Raider. I know there are issues with having the right radio and kernal with all these. If I understand it right, the stock kernal will work with all of them. If I wan't to try another kernal I would be limited to kernals made to get along with those specific roms. Is this correct?I have the 1.x radio right now, which will work with CM6 right? If I go to the 2.2 leak it will upgrade it to 2.x, which will work with 2.2 lite or Sky Raider. However I am I right in thinking to go back to CM6 or stock from 2.2 leak I will have to downgrade the radio? Also, I will have to downgrade the bootloader as well?Whew, this is all so confusing.
View 10 Replies View Relatedi was wondering about the hydra kernals. I installed the latest overvolt hydra kernal. My question is when you go into idle, does it underclock for you? Or do you have to install undervolt to do that? Also can you install both overvolt and undervolt at the same time? (not literally at the same time but have both kernals at once to get the most power and battery saving?)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI rooted today (unrevoked 3 + forever) and I did a nandroid backup (thank god) and titanium backup. I tried to flash the undervolt (0.5) and overclocked (0.1, #1) hydra kernals on the phone but it gets stuck at the boot up screens. Am I doing something wrong? I put the zip on the root of my SD card and used Clockwork to flash the zip file. Should I just upload the HTC .32 kernal?
View 2 Replies View RelatedCan someone explain to me what a kernal is? and how do you flash things, like this kernal? ([WIP] [7/7] Higher framerate on Novatek panels | Kernel inside | Now for Froyo! - xda-developers) and does anyone know if Fresh 1.0.1 disables preflocks? and if it does, whats the downside of "flashing" fresh 1.0.1?
View 4 Replies View Relatedok so i get that everyone's phone reacts differently to different kernals. but what i'd like to know is what if i got a kernal that yields great results as far as performance, but drains the battery to quickly? im using chevy's ulv 1.25. will using set cpu to scale it back to 1.1 be as beneficial as using a new 1.1 kernal?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm still new to this Rooting so I have a question. I've tried about 14 different ROMs over the past month or so. My Eris always freezes up when I set the OC past 787mhz. I have read where some people are using Kernals that let them OC past 800. Is this something I can flash to my Eris or is my Eris just limited to 787?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have tried flashing several kernals with different ROMs, but more often than not, my phone just ends up restarting over and over. after i boot it, when i flash the kernal, I would be playing with it then all of a sudden it would freeze up on me and start boot looping. I have cleared the dalvik and cache before flashing ROMs and kernal. I rooted via 3.21 unrevoked and it says on the top of hboot s-off. The only kernal that has worked is netarchy-toastmod 4.1.8 bfs. any idea what i could be doing wrong?
View 22 Replies View RelatedI recently installed one of Chevy's low voltage kernels a few days ago and have since experience extremely laggy performance, random reboots, and terrible battery life compare to what I used to get before I installed it. And most of that stuff has been happening even when I have it maxed at 550. How do I go about uninstalling this kernel?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI just got my droid (ONLY the droid, no battery, backplate, or charger) lol. I know irritating right. Well since I have a couple days before everything comes that I need, i am contemplating on which ROM to put on it. I have done some reading and seems that the majority of people are happy with BB (right?)
But my question is:
What about Kernals? I have heard to flash new Kernals for overclocking and such, but should I flash a different Kernal or do the ROMS already have the fastest Kernal installed on them? Not sure if this question makes sense, but I'm just trying to get the fastest ROM & Kernal available for my Droid.
I have search for the best ROM, even in the rating thread and have not found a consistent consensus of what people think. I am looking for the newest kernals and the best ROM.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am sure its not to complicated but still I would like to be filled.
View 23 Replies View RelatedI wanted to explore some of the different kernals in rom manager. LV vs MV, etc. Can I just install them on top of what I have? Do I have to remove a previous kernal some how, or just try them all out?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was wondering how they actually reach their max speed? If you have a kernal that has 250, 600, 800, 1000, 1200. Does it start at 250 then go 600, 800, 1000, then finally hit 1200? Or does it jump to the necessary speed that your using (like start at 250 then it could go to 1000 then 1200)? Because if it has to go through each speed to get to its max, then a kernal with 5 different ones would be much better than 10 wouldn't it? I've never seen this question asked before, so does anyone know how they actually get up to their max?
Just so everyone knows I'm rooted and running overclock of 1200.. I have it set up. Just want to know how it works.
I just put Froyo 2.2 on my Moto Droid using this ROM: http://androidforums.com/roms-droid/127966-rom-stable-android-2-2-frg01-clean-untouched-virgin.html
And I used the 800mHz kernal found here:

I am experiancing a few freezing problems and bad start ups, but I am assuming these kind of surprises come with flashing different ROMs/kernals onto your phone. I noticed, however, that occasionally my screen will get really "twitchy" e.g. when I press a key on the android on screen keyboard it types the letter 4 times. or when i drag the notifications bar down half way and keep my finger still i can see the bar twitch up and down rapidly. I have heard from several review sites that twitchiness and stuttering usually have to do with the processing, which made me think of the kernal change. Does this mean i picked a bad kernal or a bad speed? If i get this twitching does it mean get a faster kernal or a slower kernal?
Can someone explain kernals? I recently rooted my phone and am running froyo, but I am still in the dark on what kernals are...
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo Im running stock rooted frg22 and was wondering if I could put overclocked kernals like slayers or something over it because I want to overclock and am satisfied with the stock froyo rom.
View 8 Replies View RelatedOkay so I was just wondering what the difference is between low volt and med volt kernals. Obviously there is something different but i want to know which would benefit my droid the most. I am running the new bb.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an HTC Incredible and it comes with 7 panels (Which is standard for the HTC SenseUI)
Is there a way to customize this? Lets say if I wanted 5? If not, is there an app that can do it?
I can't find where to change the notifications for my sms and mms.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo been using my DInc and have just noticed something pretty annoying. For some reason the GPS in my phone keeps thinking I am in Xuzhou, I think somewhere in China, which wouldnt be so bad but my phones time switches accordingly. This gets to be pretty annoying as it has almost made me late for work a few times. Just wondered if anyone else is having this problem and if it could be tied back to a certain app?
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my wallpapers won't change unless I reboot. When I change scenes or select a different wallpaper it just uses the (Ugly) HTC blurry bubble wallpaper...not even animated. A reboot sets it to the chosen wallpaper but that's a pain to do every time.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIf I change my wallpaper I can't get it to just change that....seems I have to recreate my scene? What am I missing?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to change wallpaper. I go into stock photos. I view them in full screen. I want to see that full screen as my background. It makes me crop. Even when stretching out, I can only get 1/2 of it max. Why cant it just take the screen exactly how it is and make it my wallpaper?
I went to the wallpaper thread to take their pictures. i used the pits penguin for example. it was perfect. it made me crop it so i couldn't even get the entire logo, then when i set it it blew it up huge and gross.
Change almost evey few days, now when I select one (even HTC ones) it says it changed it, yet it is always the rainbow looking one with light circles....
Anyone now why this just stopped working?
Found possible solution.

I realize you can change them to numerous default sounds, but I was trying to figure out how to change it to an actual song downloaded. I've done this on my blackberry, and I know there has to be an option, but I'm just missing it. Can anyone help?
