Oct 29, 2010I rooted my Droid incredible 2 days ago so bare with me as I am still trying to understand all this new terminology and get the fullest use out of my phone. I was wondering about Kernals, overclocking and underclocking. I would like to increase my battery life as we all know how crappy it can be under normal use. I am running Skyraider 3.3 now because I enjoy the stock look of the HTC sense and I am using ADW.launcher as well. I downloaded a kernal for Skyraider but I can't tell what the speeds are and change them up. I saw a program called setcpu for rooted users on the market. Anyone have any experience with this app and is it worth the money? I am not wanting to slow down the performance of my phone but I still want to be able to have a good battery life. Anyone have any suggestions for a kernal to use or anyone using setcpu have a suggestions for a good speed to use.

Sep 19, 2010This unit's radios worked reasonably well until rooted. Now, only 10' from the wireless router, it's intermittent. Phone and Bluetooth are both ok Our two laptops and the wireless printer have no problems. Everything else about this newly-rooted phone is terrific. What could I have done that degraded the WiFi radio? What can I do to get WiFi back?

Nov 22, 2010This is the first time I've rooted a phone, and i picked the Kaos Froyo V38 as the rom, but I've noticed since i did all of this my battery has been far far worse than what it was un-rooted. Today, for example i had my phone off the charger and on vibrate (with gps, mobile network off) and i was down to under 15% in under 5 hours. This is so much worse. Is it because i'm now running 2.2? What can i do to help this besides wiping the battery data (in the recovery menu)? I'm not really good with all of this yet, so some suggestions would be wonderful.

Well since I have a couple days before everything comes that I need, i am contemplating on which ROM to put on it. I have done some reading and seems that the majority of people are happy with BB (right?)
But my question is:
What about Kernals? I have heard to flash new Kernals for overclocking and such, but should I flash a different Kernal or do the ROMS already have the fastest Kernal installed on them? Not sure if this question makes sense, but I'm just trying to get the fastest ROM & Kernal available for my Droid.

Feb 24, 2010I was wondering how they actually reach their max speed? If you have a kernal that has 250, 600, 800, 1000, 1200. Does it start at 250 then go 600, 800, 1000, then finally hit 1200? Or does it jump to the necessary speed that your using (like start at 250 then it could go to 1000 then 1200)? Because if it has to go through each speed to get to its max, then a kernal with 5 different ones would be much better than 10 wouldn't it? I've never seen this question asked before, so does anyone know how they actually get up to their max?
Just so everyone knows I'm rooted and running overclock of 1200.. I have it set up. Just want to know how it works.

I am experiancing a few freezing problems and bad start ups, but I am assuming these kind of surprises come with flashing different ROMs/kernals onto your phone. I noticed, however, that occasionally my screen will get really "twitchy" e.g. when I press a key on the android on screen keyboard it types the letter 4 times. or when i drag the notifications bar down half way and keep my finger still i can see the bar twitch up and down rapidly. I have heard from several review sites that twitchiness and stuttering usually have to do with the processing, which made me think of the kernal change. Does this mean i picked a bad kernal or a bad speed? If i get this twitching does it mean get a faster kernal or a slower kernal?

May 11, 2010Currently I have an Eris with v3 Leak meaning I can't root. But my wife loves my phone so I plan on giving her mine and either getting another eris and rooting or a Moto Droid and rooting. I've been trying to read up on the Droid and the different ROMS available and have some questions.First I want to make a few things clear:
1. This IS NOT a phone comparison.
2. The Incredilble IS NOT an option since it can't be rooted and I don't want to spend $200 on it.
3. I'm looking for WELL INFORMED OPINIONS, if you don't have one keep moving there is nothing to see here.
To be fair I've obviously done a lot more reading on the Eris which is why I'm looking for well informed opinions from Droid owners that way I can make a well informed decision.

Apr 17, 2012Is there a way i can backup my user app info like what level i'm at in a game without being rooted, i think thats the only thing android needs to be a perfect OS... link your apps to your gmail and it wouldn't matter what phone or carrier you get/gotto your app info is there...
Any app that can do that without your phone having to be rooted, i know its a reach...

Jul 21, 2010I'm looking for an application that allows SMS alerts for each user. I've tried handcent and I like it but the stock messaging app on the DX is very nice. If I could set specific alerts it would be perfect. I like to have a few people alert me via sound then the rest just silent. I'm sure there's a way to do it I just haven't found the right app yet.

Sep 10, 2010I searched on how to completely remove both of these and one method was using Terminal Emulate. When i tried this method and typed in su to start the process it would say "permission denied". Do i have to reroot my phone again in order to get rid of these two apps? I'm doing this in order to take my phone to verizon. Do you guys think its necessary to make it perfectly clean of any "rooted" things? 1) I'm hearing and reading a lot about problems with yahoo email setup, even that some of the fixes/workarounds don't work. Anyone?
2) Does the Droid have true threaded text messaging?
3) What's the deal with notifications on the Droid? I really can't survive without my notifications (vibrations, sounds, blinking light) for missed calls/voicemails/emails/texts/calendar appts and I thought I read that the Droid doesn't really handle these very well...or at all.
4) This is a personal preference question but how are you guys dealing with the lack of physical send and end buttons?

Jul 16, 2010Made the switch from EVO to X. When you pinched in to zoom on the EVO browser, the web page would auto fit so that I wouldn't have to scroll left or right to read an article. I noticed this is missing on the X browser. I have Fit Web Pages checked on the settings but it won't fit to the page. Anyone know of a solution yet? Is there a way to change the User Agent like you can on the EVO?

Nov 25, 2009I've seen the DROID users guide online and of course the one that comes with the device. But there are a Lot of things missing and honestly I don't want to have to always "figure it out". Is there some comprehensive guide available that details everything? For example, I'm using a widget that came with the phone, I think its the Power Control widget. There is one control on there (looks like a Refresh icon). I have no clue what it does. Lastly, does anyone know if Moto, Google, Verizon has a feedback forum. I like the phone and it has some really cool features, but I have some feedback (positive of course) to help them improve it.

Jul 20, 2010The wife and I have both been on AT&T for 12 years. I've had the 3G and 3GS and she has a P.O.S. Samsung Epix WinMo phone. She actually ordered an iPhone 4 but we were both unhappy with the Apple press conference and said screw it and returned it. The people at AT&T couldn't believe we were returning it. They asked why and my wife pretty much told them it's because Steve Jobs is a douche. She wouldn't even look at the Samsung Captivate on AT&T because she loathes Samsung phones now.So we went to Verizon and both fell in love with the Droid X. We went in to sign up tonight and ran into a little issue. Apparently some putz named Ernesto had used my wife's social security number some years ago to sign up for Verizon and then didn't pay his bill. So we had to go through this drawn out process dealing with Verizon's fraud department and prove that my wife is who she says she is. We're pretty laid back so we weren't stressing. The Verizon store rep was so apologetic and cool. We eventually got it straightened out.We got the phones for $199.99 each with no mail in rebate, no activation fees, free overnight shipping (when they are in stock ), and they paid the $120 ETF for my 3GS (coming to Craigslist soon). Pretty happy so far and looking forward to my Droid X!I just got bored with the iPhone. Not much of a difference to me between the 3GS and the 4. Good phone, just not for me anymore. Can't wait to dive into Android!
