HTC Incredible :: Cant Remove Bloatware
Sep 5, 2010I am running rooted incredible with 2.x radio, and virtuous' 2.2 ROM. Its working... well, kinda slow... In fact, its lagging (? unhappy face )
I am new to rooting, just started messing with it yesterday. I followed JONAMERICA's site to rooting, reflashing to stock with S-OFF, and going with the manual radio and rom update.
Then, to delete apps I followed his instruction as well, but whenever I type in command prompt "cdsd ools" it says directory not found...
I want to remove voice dialer, news, google search, gmail, and friend stream. I know that Virtuous has a EZcustomizer, but it doesnt remove these apps that I want off.
Also, any ideas as to why its working so slow? Like... it lags when i go from screen to screen, loading apps take a bit longer than when I was on 2.1 last night... once again, slightly unhappy face...
I followed everything else to the letter...

Oct 5, 2010So I finally rooted my phone the other night. Already did a nandroid backup and a Titanium backup. Just installed SetCPU and now its time to remove my bloatware.I have found MANY different ways to remove it posted online, can someone please recommend a simple easy (fool-proof) way for me to remove them? I am not stupid, but I am definitely not technologically inclined - so step by step instructions (or a link to step by step instructions).

Aug 26, 2010I have not tried it yet, but thinking of going for it, rather than getting rid of the bloat through terminal commands. ADDED: Please read the top of the thread in the link. Then again, I may wait for adrynalyne to add usb tether and other goodies.

Jun 15, 2010I successfully rooted the phone. My main reason (initially) is so I can delete some of the bloatware that came with it. I've looked through some of the threads that talk about how to uninstall some of this stuff, and I'm at a loss. Is there any way someone can explain how to uninstall bloatware applications in noobtard terms? I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance from your friendly neighborhood noob. For the record, I'm technically savvy, I've just never done this before and don't really know where to begin.

Nov 18, 2010I want 2.2 but I removed some stock bloatware apps and my froyo OTAs always fail. Can I get the stock bloat apps back by simply doing a revert to factory settings?
I'm worried that a factory reset won't revert them because I theoretically shouldn't have been able to ever remove "system" apps in the first place. I'd like to hope/think that the developers would have this feature as part of a reset but who knows.

Jun 27, 2010Loving the Jager 1.1 ROM. Just wondering if it is ok to due the OTA that keeps popping up? It is the 3.6 MB update that I believe dropped a while ago. I have just kept pressing install later. Any one know if it is ok to do this OTA update?

Jul 8, 2010I have root access, have clockwork mod. i did a nandroid backup as well. now what is the next step? i downloaded rom manager and titanium backup(paid version) i thought i read somewhere about someone sayin that titanium has to be on the SD card or something for backing up the apps maybe same thing with rom manager? a little confused at this point im just a little bit lost here when it comes to flashing roms. i think i wanna flash capt jagers 1.6 rom but im not sure what else i have to do.

Jun 25, 2010So I downloaded two different ROMs from incredible stuff. You know you want it. And I try to install them with Rom Manager by going to Install ROM form SD Card, selecting the zip. I downloaded, and then checking backup and wipe, but when my phone boots back up, nothing has changed. What is it that I'm doing wrong? I eventually rerooted and that solved my problems. I still have no idea what was wrong.

I already backed up my current rom (sense ui) with the ROM manager app. I have already backed up all my apps as well with titanium backup. I am good to go at this point? Aug 23, 2010I'm running Skyraider 2.5.2 Sense, rooted, unrevoked 3, unrevoked forever, titanium backup, gained S-OFF and am trying to flash the radio 2.15 so at least my camcorder will work.
I've tried:
-Hboot > recovery > install file from zip >PB31IMG
-Hboot > recovery > apply: update.zip
-rom manager > Install rom from SD card
-rename PB31IMG update.zip >Hboot >recovery > apply:update.zip
Not to mention a few other variations. Do I need to restore from backup, then flash my radio, and then apply the new ROM?

Nov 27, 2010I have a rooted Droid Incredible, running stock 2.2 and Hydra's 1.15 ghz kernel. I found a ROM called "Light Speed," and I'm wondering if I should try it out. Aug 23, 2010I just tried to install frankenrom b5 through CWM. It said it loaded fine but I can't exit out of CWM. It kept going from back menu enabled to back menu disabled but the menu never came up. I do know that it is not visible unless I scroll down extra far but no matter what it will not show up. Any help?

Oct 20, 2010Last night I exchanged my Fascinate for the Incredible due to some really poor call quality issues. Well, I am not a huge fan of Sense - mainly due to the swipe down action of answering calls and unlocking the phone but I digress. So I decided to root. I've rooted several phones before (Eris, Ally, Fascinate). I flashed the DInc last night using the unrevoked one touch method. Then I installed ROM Manager - paid version. ROM manager thought I still had the Ally so I went ahead and flashed the CWM recovery image included with ROM Manager and I think that caused a problem. Things just weren't working right so I searched the forum and found an image that I had to rename, put on the root of the SD card and then flash.
After doing that I was then able to flash the Skyraider ROM that I downloaded in ROM Manager. What I'm really looking for is a ROM with a Vanilla dialer so I tried flashing Cyanogen's 6.0.2 from ROM Manager. It downloaded but hangs at the HTC Incredible screen on bootup. Thought there may be an issue with the flash so I downloaded and installed it manually and it still hung at the boot up screen. I thought it was a problem with the cyanogen ROM so I gave up but I just tried another and am having the same problem. I flashed the MIUI ROM manually and it booted up the same screen and hung there as well. What am I doing wrong?

Jul 17, 2010Every time I try I get a 'boot failed' then 'error at line 390' installation failed, aborted etc. If I try to reboot it just sticks on the HTC incredible screen. I've tried using Rom manager and directly from recovery. Re downloaded files. Maybe related but any kernels I tried stick on the same screen?

Nov 11, 2010I have been trying different ROMs for months now via ROM manager. Anyway, I downloaded a ROM to my SD card (I always pick the "download folder") and then go into ROM manager and choose "install from sd card" but I can never see the ROM. For example, last night I DL the red theme for the redemptive ROM. I did not get any error messages. It look to transfer just fine. But I can find the blasted thing! I've tried looking via TB but still nothing. I've also tried via recovery but that did not work either. I have a feeling I am overlooking something stupid and as I said...will feel quite dumb but oh well.

Aug 20, 2010Question, obviously asked in several previous threads, but I'm unable to resolve the next issue at hand with that data. When I power on, and hit hboot, I'm still seeing S-On, yet if I log into abb shell, su, I get "#", as well as now having the icon for "Superuser Permissions". Used both unrEVOked3 and forever in this process.
I've attempted to install the radio update "PB31IMG.zip" via root of SD card. I'm able to see / install it, yet baseband is still showing 1.00.03.04.06. I have W7, and have the option to "Hide extensions for known file types" off (Can't stand not seeing exactly what files are what). What am I missing? I've seen that others have had to do the "*22899 then *228 option 2", yet If it doesn't show it as being a valid install, I'm hesitant to try and reinstall it.
HTC Incredible :: Flashing Kernals And Slcd Screen
Oct 22, 2010Flashing kernals is new to me although general rooting is not. Apparently with my new Inc I have the slcd which will only work with a few kernals. What I had to do to get some new ROMs working was flash the ROM, then flash a specific kernal before booting up. That worked and I was able to flash some ROMs that I was not previously able to use. It has come to my attention that there are some kernals out there that are better for battery life so my questions are:
1) If I want to flash a new kernal over my existing ROM can I just do that? Boot into recovery and flash the new kernal? (After a nandroid of course.) Or do I have to flash the ROM again, then flash the new kernal and then boot up? Do I need to wipe anything before flashing a new kernal?
2) What are the best kernals for battery life that work with the slcd screen?

Jul 9, 2010Almost every time I install a custom Rom, the Marketplace won't show all of the apps. The missing apps aren't always paid apps though, just certain ones (both free and paid). The only solution I've found is to go back to the stock Rom.. does anybody have any ideas/suggestions? I've tried searching (this forum and Google) but didn't really find any answers.

Jul 21, 2010The Inc is my first smartphone so I don't know anything about how the LED indicators work. When I get emails and texts, I get the green LED indicator that flashes. Is the LED supposed to keep flashing until you clear the email/text from your notifications panel? I ask because I got an email last night and I didn't check it until I woke up this morning and the LED indicator wasn't flashing anymore. If this is intentional, what's the purpose of having the LED flash for only a limited amount of time?

Aug 11, 2010I was taking videos on my Dinc when all of a sudden the screen started to flash pink static. The screen is completely pink, flashing, and you can't see anything through it. The only cure is to do a battery pull. I've tried everything else but a factory reset. Has anyone else had this issue and has anyone figured out a way to fix it? This is now a daily occurrence and it is very annoying because I use my camera quite a bit and have to pull the battery every time to use the camera again.

Aug 8, 2010Was playing with the touch to take feature on my DI, when suddenly the camera started displaying flashing red and blue screen. Not sure what happened there. Battery out resets did not fix it. I did a complete data reset and it returned to normal. Anyone else experience this?
