HTC Incredible :: Easy Way To Hookup Phone To PC?
May 30, 2010
Ive done some searches and nothing seems to work. Some folks say you need HTC Sync, others the Android SDK.
What happens on my machine is I get two devices in Windows Explorer saying removable disk. However if I click on them, it thinks its a CD or DVD by asking please insert a disk.
I just need to copy a few files over, and for security reasons I don't want to email them to myself.

Curious how to hookup the Incredible to a PC/MAC to move over some new wallpaper and sounds.
Is HTC Sync needed?

So you have a car that had the free XM radio for 6 months... The free 6 months runs out, and you dont actually purchase XM... So you have an unused XM stereo. There's a way you can use the XM inputs on your stock car stereo to be able to listen to your digital music from that stock head unit.
Bottom line is... you gotta have a car stereo with an XM hookup that is inactive and you don't plan on using it again.
It would take a little digging on your part for your car model...
Mine is a 2006 GMC Canyon. Here is the instructions I used to accomplish this: (Thanks to canyonfans.com ):
---------------
This radio has two buss connectors on the back, the one coming from the XM tuner has 5 wires going to it. They are purple, bare(wrapped with tape), black/white (common), brown/white (left channel), and green/white (right channel). Since I never intend to subscribe to XM radio (the following procedure will disable the audio channels coming from the XM tuner) I tied my mini-stereo jack into this connector.
Remove the connector from the back of the radio and cut the black/white, brown/white, & green/white wires. Cap each of these wires that go back to the XM tunner (hidden elsewhere in the vehicle). On the connector side you simply connect the left channel from the Ipod to the brown/white wire, the right channel to the green/white wire and the common for both channels to the black/white wire. Plug the connector back into the radio.
Now plug the the stereo mini-jack you just wired to the connector to the headphone output on the Ipod. Tune the radio to either XM1 or XM2 band and you will hear the Ipod if it's on and playing. I didn't see the need for a line-input signal booster either, it was plenty loud.
------------
So what I did was take a 3.5 mm stereo jack (obviously the one that fits the incredible.
See the wikipedia article for pin out info for the 3.5 mm plug: TRS connector - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Basically its like:
Plug XM Stereo Bus Connector
tip ........................... Left Channel ........ brown/white
ring .......................... Right Channel ...... green/white
sleeve ...................... Common Ground .. black/white
After cutting the 3.5 stereo wire, there'll be 2 insulated wires, and a whole bunch of strands... the bunch of strands is ground (sleeve). There was a red and white wire, the red if I recall was LEFT, and the White wire was obviously right.
Simple 10 minute solder job, and voila! MP3 music, pandora, radiotime.com , etc whatever... from your incredible right through your stock XM equipped car stereo!
Your mileage may vary, I accept no responsibility for you blowing up your stereo, or worse, your incredible, ipod, or other cell phone...
Just saying, it worked like a champ in my case!

The one thing which I hate about Sense is the ridiculous swipe to answer feature when the phone is locked, I found Easy Answer Button and My Phone Tools. I used both but with limited success. It seems that with either one of those apps installed, I would constantly miss calls. The phone simply wouldn't ring and/or vibrate. I have my phone set to ring and vibrate when I receive calls. When using My Phone Tools, the first few seconds of the ringtone would play, and then it would be stop abruptly. With Easy Answer Button, the results were even worse: I would receive a call and the phone would not ring or vibrate. Of course, this didn't happen every time I received a call. But, when using these apps, a day didn't go by where I didn't miss a call because my phone simply didn't ring.
For those Incredible owners who have used either one of these apps, I'm wondering about your experience with them. Have you experience a similar problem with your phone not ringing/vibrating? I'm trying to determine whether or not it's just me or another app I have installed on my phone. It's been a day since I uninstalled Easy Answer Button and I have yet to miss a call. This leads me to believe that it's one of those two apps. Also, are there any other apps out there with a similar functionality? I'm currently running stock 2.2 (rooted, s-off), and not too interested in running stock vanilla. But I am wondering what other options to the slide to answer feature are out there.

If I create a playlist from the music library on my phone, does it create a file for the playlist somewhere? I want to be able to play a playlist when I hook my Evo up to my car radio via USB. Scanning so many folders for one song, then doing it again for next song is getting kinda annoying.

Stock DINC w/Froyo. I can easily upload pictures via WiFi/3G from Gallery because both Facebook and Facebook for HTC Sense are shown on the Share menu. But when I try to upload videos, the Share menu doesn't have either Facebook option. What gives? The only way I have been able to upload videos to FB is to connect the DINC to my computer and use the video upload feature in FB in my computer browser. Any suggestions?

Recently got an auxiliary cable for my car to play Pandora through the stereo while on the road. I notice that when i start it up, Pandora immediately starts skipping songs till it runs out of song skips. Then it will start playing normally. Other times the service won't run at all while it's plugged in.
When i don't have the Eris hooked up to the car Pandora works flawlessly, has anyone else experienced this problem?

Has anyone tried the Easy Root App that was listed last night on Droid-Life.com? I see in the Android Market that it lists compatibility for Droid 1 and Droid X and then also shows Droid Incredible. Has anyone had success using this new App to root their Incredible? If so, thoughts? Should you use the Easy Root App or unr EVOked3?

We've upgraded yesterday our App (easy.go) on the Android Market and after that we have got several messages from HTC Tattoo and Sony Ericsson XPeria mini users, that they can't see application on Android Market. We are not you using Copy Protection when uploading to the market, so I guess, it couldn't be a problem. The first assumption is that the problem was because of small screens. I took a look in manifest.xml. There is written: Code...

I'm looking for some advice. I'm thinking about rooting my Vibrant.I have no experience with this kind of thing but have done some reading and watched some videos on the topic. My questions are:
1 - Is this risky- is it easy to screw up the phone beyond repair?
2 - Can I undo the rooting once it's done?
3- Are there many advantages to rooting?
I mainly like the idea of being able to delete stock apps and would love to have the wireless tether capabilities.

I switched to a Motorola Droid 5 days ago (from a Blackberry curve). I'm having some trouble understanding some of the behavior and getting used to it. These are all things that I didn't have to deal with on the blackberry. I know they are different devices but I use my Phone primarily for work. I'm afraid now that I'll miss important messages or voice calls..
- Phone goes Mute (ringer)... No idea how it gets there. Probably a bad finger swipe on the home screen. Is there a way to disable this?
- No easy change from profiles (notifications, ringer, etc...). I tried a few apps but they all seems to fail at turning on/off notifications for e-mail/gmail.
- don't receive my messages (gmail), seems like it doesn't sync all the time
- gapps crashes all the time when downloading an app from the market.
- Random calls...
- Didn't use the browser, battery is 70%. Put it down for a movie (2 hours) and then battery is now 20%... Browser used the battery 50% according to the phone. Switch to the browser, was on the google.com home page.
I did search on all of these and they seem to be pretty much standard issues that people are having. Are they?Other that that it seems like a great phone. But like I said, I'm afraid of not getting calls sometime because it gets turned to "mute".

Was wondering if anyone knew if there was an "Easy Root" app or one in the making (like the one for Moto-Droid). Ive rooted my phones before (G1 & Moto-Droid) and did it the manual way---however the root process on the Evo seems long and drawn out for some reason and seems like it would have to be done on a non-busy Saturday afternoon. Any help (other than rooting my phone the manual way--I'm a member of XDA site so I view their forum as well) would be greatly appreciated.

I'm new to android development and I want to create a menu for my app. The problem is that when I search for instructions, they all want to talk about what to do when the user presses the menu button which is not what I'm looking for.
The user would load my app and be presented with something pretty much identical to this.I have one of the three parts coded and working just fine, but in the end I want the user to choose between the three options instead of stacking the three parts vertically on one screen.

When I started inputting contacts into the phone I didn't realize how important it was to keep everything consistent. Now I've got a mix of phone/google/exchange contacts and I'm wondering if there is an easy way to put them all on one list and from then on I'd keep it current on google.
Am I SOL here?

Is there a simple way to get my N1 to sync with iTunes without having to download and install a bunch of software? I'm new to the whole Android scene and I looked at Double Twist, but was looking for something a little easier since I'm on a Mac and I sync some other "i" devices with iTunes and I'm worried about the programs maybe not playing nice with each other? I'm not looking to sync my whole library, just maybe a few playlists. Is there an easy way to do this?

if at all possible does anyone know an easy way to USB tether to the PC without having the hotspot on ur phone. I have seen the apps in the market but I am not too good at this and the instructions aren't that clear so a step by step would be awesome. I tried PDAnet but couldn't get it working any shared experience would help. I only want to do this because my brother was able to tether back in the day with his instinct and connect his PC to his xbox 360 and play online that way so gamers if I can an answer we can all get free connection for xbox live.

Is there an easy way of getting the Android source code? More than anything else, I just want to be able to look at the source for some of the standard apps, such as the Android Market, Contacts, etc. I took a look at dev.android.com, but I don't see an easy way of getting the source I'm looking for.

New to Motorola droid. I was wondering if there is a shortcut to show you what apps/tasks you have running, and allows you to easily switch between them? Currently, I just hit the home button to get out of one app/task and then switch to the screen with the app I want, and click on the app/task. I imagine there is an easier way via a key or shortcut that will pop up my open apps and allow me to choose which one to go to. I figure with all the talk of the droid being a multitasker, I figure there would be an easy way to switch between tasks.
