HTC Incredible :: Cleaning Screen With Windex?
May 5, 2010
The manual doesnt give any guidance on what can/cannot be used to clean fingerprints etc off of the screen.
Since is is glass, could I spray a bit of windex on a paper towel and clean the screen with it?

So I expected this as I have friends with iPhones and I see it on their phones. Smudges! I hate smudges! So normally I just wipe it clean with a microfiber and it looks pretty good, however that does not always remove all the oils caught on the screen. I would think that over time, the oils sitting on the screen will end up degrading the screen or make it look nasty later on. I am wanting to clean it and not sure what to use. I have a cleaning kit we use on the document scanners at work. It has microfiber pads and a cleaning chemical which after reading the ingredients is just isopropyl rubbing alcohol.I heard the HTC Hero has a special coating on it that keeps it resistant to scratches and makes smudges easier to clean. My concern is that the isopropyl alcohol will beat up that coating. So after beating around the bush...the question is, what is the best way to do a good deep cleaning of the screen?

New EVO/Android user here, but I'm pretty tech savvy. I recognize that the HTC EVO doesn't have the "Sync Groups" option on some other HTC Sense phones, where you can sync specific contact groups from Gmail. So from my research in this issue, it is the "My Contacts" group that gets synced over to phones, yes?Provided this is all correct, here's my issue:When I set up my phone it originally synced all 100+ contacts in my "My Contacts" group.Once I did the research & understood how this worked, I went back into Gmail and audited my contacts. Now I only have about 20 users in the My Contacts group the users I want to show up on my phone. However, now that I'm running a Sync on my EVO, the 100+ contacts are not reducing down to the 20 that I selected for the "My Contacts" group. In short, it doesn't appear to be genuinely syncing the group changes that I made on the Gmail web client.
Can anyone advise me what I need to do? Shouldn't the syncing be two-way, as in any changes I make to my contacts on Gmail be showing up on the phone?Little stuck here... hoping it's an easy fix. I do not want to have to run a contact remover application if possible, because that's indicative that there's not a genuine sync something I really hope should be taking place!

If not, how much can you delete of your sdcard without screwing up the phone? I have gone into root explorer and looked at all thats on it, some of it I don't even know why it's there so that makes me a little worried to delete.

I was just browsing my SD card on my computer last night and realized that there is a lot of folders/files left over from programs I uninstalled a long time ago. Has anyone just gone in there and deleted them? I am actually pretty surprised about how much stuff was left over. I guess the unistall is like windows where it doesn't always get everything.

I keep getting this error under several projects. 10 minutes ago I exported an android .apk, then changed the AndroidManifest.xml and now can't export. I reverted back to the original AndroidManifest.xml but still it doesn't work. I guess the plugin is broken. Is there a set of Ant tasks that can be used to build Android apps?

I've got an app that is heavily based on remote images. They are usually displayed alongside some data in a ListView. A lot of these images are new, and a lot of the old ones will never be seen again.
I'm currently storing all of these images on the SD card in a custom cache directory (ala evancharlton's magnatune app).
I noticed that after about 10 days, the directory totals ~30MB. This is quite a bit more than I expected, and it leads me to believe that I need to come up with a good solution for cleaning out old files... and I just can't think of a great one. Maybe you can help. These are the ideas that I've had:
Delete old files. When the app starts, start a background thread, and delete all files older than X days. This seems to pose a problem, though, in that, if the user actively uses the app, this could make the device sluggish if there are hundreds of files to delete. After creating the files on the SD card, call new
File("/path/to/file").deleteOnExit(); This will cause all files to be deleted when the VM exits (I don't even know if this method works on Android). This is acceptable, because, even though the files need to be cached for the session, they don't need to be cached for the next session. It seems like this will also slow the device down if there are a lot of files to be deleted when the VM exits. Delete old files, up to a max number of files. Same as #1, but only delete N number of files at a time. I don't really like this idea, and if the user was very active, it may never be able to catch up and keep the cache directory clean.

Few questions on Android because I want to do a "super cleaning" on my mobile. I have an LG Optimus L7 P705g , not sure how it's called elsewhere.
I have rooted my device about a month ago and downloaded Avast + installed Avast AntiTheft, only that when the installation finished I didn't said it was installed so idk what happened there.
1) How can I be sure if the AntiTheft is installed or not?
2) When installing root apps and regular apps, how can you notice? I mean, can I install a root app and not be aware of it?
3) If i do a Hard reset the root apps stay on the phone? In that case which "Root uninstaller" would you recommend ?
4) Doing hard reset is bad for the device?
5) I rooted my phone with SuperSU by ChainFire, to start my mobile from 0 I have to go to the SuperSU app tap "unroot" and then do the hard reset?
All in all what I want to do is to have my device as new. Without any trace of all this time I've been using it.

Anyone know if there is an app (or PC program) that will scan the SD card and determine what folders are no longer needed that are left over from uninstalled apps? I have installed/uninstalled tons of apps and I still see folders on the SD card from apps I know that I no longer have. I have deleted the ones I know are safe to remove but there are some with names that are a little less descriptive of what they were for. I know I could just google each folder name and probably figure each one out individually but I thought there might be an app for it.

Since root has been attained, I have a feeling this app would be possible:An app that disabled the screen dim right before the screen times out.My guess is (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that the voltage outgoing to the screen changes, and therefore dims the screen. If an app could be developed that maintains this voltage, the screen could be at a constant voltage, and not dim, ever.Has anyone heard of an app like this, and, if not, is there anyone interested in developing this?I am sure a lot of people (like myself) would be willing to donate for a program like this.

So i think i might have the first shattered Incredible screen. I dropped it from two feet onto the metal camera protruding part. It hit with very little force. You can barely even see the mark from falling. So i pick it up and notice the entire screen is shattered when the screen was face up, the screen didn't even hit the ground! I can't believe how thin the Incredible screen is, it literally crumbled jut from the force of a light fall. I'm unimpressed in the build quality of the glass. I want to contact HTC about this and see if they can help me out, it seems like a manufacturing defect, maybe a weak screen? I need to find the biggest case that i can find for my replacement, one that could absorb a fall if it falls on the back part. I am thinking maybe a pillow as a case? That might help. Now im out ANOTHER 100 bucks to make an insurance claim on this. I highly recommend people keeping the insurance, the screen blows up even if it is not directly the part that hits if it is dropped.

I rooted a few days ago and did the forever S-off. I have ROM Manager loaded and was poking around in the system. I downloaded Skyraider and ROM Manager asked me to reboot. Not thinking it wouldn't let me know what it was doing when in recovery before doing something the rom had been applied. Now the Phone has for 40+ minutes been at the "HTC Incredible" boot screen.
I have read not to pull the battery but The power Button and Volume button do nothing so I could really use some suggestions. As a little more info I have not flashed the radio yet so it was a 1.x radio that a 2.2 rom was just seemingly applied to.
Bricked or recoverable? I have a Nandroid backup if someone can help me get back to that point...

I have an Incredible and a friend just got the Evo. I also went to HTC's Evo launch party in NYC so I've had my fair share of time with it and I have to say, IMHO, I was shocked at the difference in AMOLED vs LCD.
I never really gave much thought to it and I always thought it wouldn't really make a difference but HOLY COW.
It was the first and glaring thing to me whenever comparing the phones. Everything from the home screen to widgets to photos, videos, web sites. It was quite dramatic. The LCD on the Evo always looked kind of washed out since I've become used to the AMOLED.
The viewing angles, crispness, deep blacks and color saturation on the AMOLED is a huge win for me.

I just got my incredible in the mail to replace my droid and i'm hoping that i just have a lemon here. anyone that is coming from a droid, do you notice a huge drop in quality in the screen resolution vs the droid? yeah, the incredible's screen is brighter, but the screen is so heavily pixelated compared to my old droid. it's a big shame because i absolutely love the phone but the websites are almost unbearable to read.

I've had the phone since launch day with no problems. No suddenly, it's being weird. Yesterday I kept trying to answer a call and the other line would be dead. Then when I would try to cal the person back, there was a horrible high pitch buzzing noise in the speaker. So I did a battery pull and that seemed to fix it.
Now today, I turned the phone on and it' stuck on the initial "HTC Incredible" screen. It won't get past the screen. Has this happened to anyone?
The phone is not rooted.

So I did something bone-headed and accidentally shattered the screen on my Incredible yesterday. Even after removing the battery and putting it back in, all I see on the screen are some multi-colored dots in the lower half of it.
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement screen? I called HTC and their vendor, but they were not any help. I did not have insurance on it at the time (though I thought I did, but it's a moot point).

Some people over a PPCGeeks are encountering some of the same screen responsiveness issues that Incredible users were seeing (non-responsive touch screen when phone is on non-conductive surfaces). I have experienced this myself when my phone is in the car dock and when it is laying on plastic or fabric. On my phone, it seems to only be on the top half of the screen.

I've had my Inc since near the beginning (AMOLED), and just recently noticed a speck of dust under the screen. Nothing major, but a bit annoying when you're OCD like me. I bought it from Best Buy originally. Is this a pretty standard issue for the Inc, and most large screened smartphones for that matter? Is it worth taking in?? Will the problem just get worse, or is it an inevitable thing?

I have several different screen layouts when I slide to the left or to the right. As of 5 minutes ago, when I press the Home key, it goes to the home screen, but then automatically slides to the screen to the left, and then slides again to the left. I dont know if this might be something I accidentally programmed without knowing, or if its just some kind of bug.

I had previously reported to a user and a friend that I could not see my Incredible in the sunlight - was a bit embarrassing considering how it was 'new technology'. It turns out that I had my Brightness at 25% to conserve battery. I could not see a hint of my screen let alone someone calling when it was sunny out. I didn't even have to be in the direct sunlight.
I decided to turn my brightness up to 100% (and on automatic), and I could see everything even when it was really sunny out! After a few days of being grumpy about not being able to see my screen in the sun - I am now very relieved that I can see my Incredible in the sun. So morale of the story, if you live in a sunny state, change your brightness to high or automatic - it is WELL worth the battery sacrifice if you are outdoors a lot and need to see your screen. I've also noticed the High setting also decreases glare from indoor lights.
