Now that we have all had this device and loaded, unloaded, reloaded.....apps and data, etc. Are there any good "house cleaning" tips anyone has for keeping the X running smooth and efficient.What tips and tricks have you tried successfully?

So I expected this as I have friends with iPhones and I see it on their phones. Smudges! I hate smudges! So normally I just wipe it clean with a microfiber and it looks pretty good, however that does not always remove all the oils caught on the screen. I would think that over time, the oils sitting on the screen will end up degrading the screen or make it look nasty later on. I am wanting to clean it and not sure what to use. I have a cleaning kit we use on the document scanners at work. It has microfiber pads and a cleaning chemical which after reading the ingredients is just isopropyl rubbing alcohol.I heard the HTC Hero has a special coating on it that keeps it resistant to scratches and makes smudges easier to clean. My concern is that the isopropyl alcohol will beat up that coating.So after beating around the bush...the question is, what is the best way to do a good deep cleaning of the screen?

View 9 Replies View RelatedNew to the Evo just wanted to know, when i first get it what should i do to get the best out of the batt life? Drain it then charge it, or should i just throw it on charge for some amount of hours first. I have heard different things from people and just wanted some tips.
Also at night when not using the phone should i turn the phone fully off does that help in anyway or is it OK to just have the phone on all the time and never turning it off.
I'm new to rooting and custom roms, and just started using fresh 2.4.0. I was wondering if anyone has any good tips for places to find some new widgets, icons, or lockscreens to customize the phone a little more with?

If not, how much can you delete of your sdcard without screwing up the phone? I have gone into root explorer and looked at all thats on it, some of it I don't even know why it's there so that makes me a little worried to delete.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyone know if there is an app (or PC program) that will scan the SD card and determine what folders are no longer needed that are left over from uninstalled apps? I have installed/uninstalled tons of apps and I still see folders on the SD card from apps I know that I no longer have. I have deleted the ones I know are safe to remove but there are some with names that are a little less descriptive of what they were for. I know I could just google each folder name and probably figure each one out individually but I thought there might be an app for it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI wanted to go over a few things with everyone. Don't any of you take this the wrong way as I am just writing this to try and help everyone new to the scene.
When I first got into Android I had a G1, that was a little over a year ago. I used it stock for about 2 months and then started going to a site called xda developers. Some of you probably know about it, for those who don't it is a site that focuses on developing and hacking WinMo and Android. I learned a ton of stuff there, but at first it was SCARY, so much information and so many new technical terms I had never heard of before. I took my time reading things and asking people questions for about 2 weeks and when I was finally confident in myself I rooted my G1. It took me like 2+ hours to do it, I installed a new Recovery, flashed a new SPL and Radio, I even got a Sense UI ROM installed on it. It felt great.
Now here we are with a much higher spec'd phone, the Droid, and it has attracted a TON of new users. It is great because now Android is evolving faster then it ever has, and we are getting tons of new developers creating some amazing stuff. It has all happened so fast and a lot of you are trying to learn everything as quickly as possible. The Sholes SMUpdater app has made all of this VERY easy for anyone to do, but the problem with this is that now when something goes wrong you have no idea how to fix it. When you want to do some modifications that involve ADB or Terminal Emulator you have no knowledge on how they work. By skipping all the hard parts you have basically shorted yourself on TONS of knowledge which, to me, is sort of a requirement to rooting/rom flashing.
Now I agree that SMUpdater is a great tool to save time from having to learn everything, and it makes it easy to get the newest Sholes ROM. But there is SOOO much more to Android hacking/development then Sholes. When you want to try something new and different then what will you do? This is why I HIGHLY recommend that everyone does some heavy researching, take a weekend, or some blocks of free time, and read. Read until you can't see straight. Let it all sink in, and practice practice practice. I promise you will become such a better user, you will understand what is going on with the system.
If you don't study and learn, then what happens when something breaks? You can't always expect someone on a forum to come to your rescue. Of course there will always be things that happen which require some really advanced users to fix, and even I have t ask for help from time to time. But to not learn even the basics is just absurd, it hurts you and it hurts the community because we have to spend all our time fixing very basic and simple problems.
I hope no one here took offense to this because I am doing this to really help everyone here out. The more we all know then the more we can do.
i have it synced with us holidays, thats just a google calender thing as well as facebook friend birthdays and facebook events.... does it sync with any other things that are useful? i want it to sync with a forum calender, but i cant find a file to download or a way to do it

View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm curious how good, or bad, the "certified like new" phones are. Long story, but I had one, when my first DX crashed only a few days after having it. The "like new" phone had sporadic issues as well as the having loose plug-ins. I demanded (and got) a NEW replacement, which worked flawlessly until 2.2, and now I am having significant problems again. VZW said they would ship a new replacement phone since my NEW phone was only 3 weeks old when 2.2 hit. I found out yesterday it is yet another "certified like new" ("CLN") phone. I did not have good luck with the prior one. So, if you have experience with a CLN phone, what is your experience? Good? Bad? ANY glitches with it? I'm also wondering if I should wait on the fix that Motorola "says" is coming but who knows when that will be?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a '99 Saturn SC2 that I modify. I've added an overhead console from a Suburban, and have a large space that I've always known I'd like to use for something cool. Looks like I'll be getting a Droid soon, and am eyeballing the spot for a Droid mount. So, I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive mount that I can modify to fit this space in front of the map lights.
I have a filler plate that fills that hole, which I can modify with the mount to give a cleaner look.
I'm still getting my head around what all I can do with the droid, so it's hard to say what all I plan to use it for in the car. I have not yet upgraded the stereo headunit, so the droid won't be interfacing with it for quite a while (on the plus side that means when I do upgrade the headunit, I can pick whatever's going to work out best). Might be nice to find a dock that activates the car mode or whatnot, but I'm not looking to spend big bucks on something that I'm going to likely have to chop up to make it fit.
Also, as this will be my phone and a business tool, the Droid needs to be easily removable.
Does anybody know any good wired headset with mic? I had the Motorola EH25 Stereo Earset And i liked it before it broke in 2 months. And i want to get an new one. But i want something that will last me longer then that. Even though i didn't lose any money on those because i bought it from overstock with warranty and they ended gaving me the full refund with the price of product and the warranty price back . I am not big fan of blue tooth headsets because first you have to turn on the bluetooth on your phone and then pair it and also then u have to charge your bluetooth end of the day. In the end its too much of an hassle. Besides the quality of the sound through wired headsets are much better then the bluetooth from what i have experienced. Any advice for good wired headsets(w mic). I will be using it for mostly phone calls and not that much music.

There are plenty of apps that will track my run via gps if I bring my phone on the run with me, but I don't wanna do that. I want to be able to map a course out, enter how long it took me, save the map and even share it with friends. Ideally the app would have the gps running features I mentioned above just on case I ever do start bringing my phone with me.
