Been looking on and off for weeks and can not find a good a good app for either.I have been using the "People" shortcut and that is not bad just looking for somethign with a cleaner interface if possible.And since trying out LauncherPro I don't have use to the HTC bookmark widget but can't find anything to replace it with.

So, after three long years with my Samsung Alias, which I bought before it was popular enough to get the fancy Alias brand name, I am upgrading to the Droid X. This is my first Android phone and so I am wondering about what the "essential" Android apps are. What finally sold me on switching to Android was the Endomondo sports tracking app. I was contemplating getting a smartphone and a Garmin Edge bike computer, but when I saw a post about Endomondo, I axed the plans on the Garmin and decided to pull the trigger on the DX. In case this helps people in their advice-giving, I am a cyclist racing in college right now, I have an almost unhealthy interest in everything gadgets/computers/video games (and I suspect I'm not the only forum member like this ), I love sports (hockey, lacrosse, football, basketball, baseball, cycling, wakeboarding, skiing, surfing, etc.), and I love movies and TV (especially Entourage and Californication). So, with all of that in mind, who's got some good apps that I simply must have once I get my shiny new piece of hardware?

View 12 Replies View RelatedIs there a good program to backup your all your apps, files, shortcuts, bookmarks and personal settings. I know Astro has a "backup" function but I don't know what it actually backs up. I know you can back up your contacts Google.
I guess what I'm asking is if there's a way to "clone" your Droid, not just the SD card.

1. Did you charge the phone for the 8 hours (or until full) before you used it, or did you get to playing with it right away?
2. What were your results, in terms of battery life? It seems like every phone manufacturer says to do this, but I'm wondering how much of a difference it actually makes.
While the stock calendar widget is great, it is limited in the size selection.I am looking for a good calendar widget that looks nice, provides multiple size options, and syncs with a task application like Astrid. Currently I use the stock calendar widget (that takes up a full screen) and have an Astrid widget on another screen.It would be nice to have a widget (preferably free) that does both (or it can sync with a different task management app if someone has a better one than Astrid).I know about the Pure Calendar widget and that seems to be the highest recommended one, but are there any others?

Edit: Well, I just found an answer to the second question. I didn't realize the "free" memory is immediately used up by cache. More free memory = larger cache. So, that said, I would still like to know what the "recommended settings" would be.
Is there a recommended wait time to put the battery back in after a battery pull?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to actually re-sort an Android SQL DB? for example, I want to resort the Bookmarks DB. I can query the data and sort it with "Browser.BookmarkColumns.TITLE + " ASC" in the query but this will only sort the list shown to the user and will not sort the DB itself. Therefore, if a user uses my app to sort the Bookmarks by Title(ASC) and then goes to the Android Browser Bookmarks - the order will remain default (other than the one selected on my app).

I used to have the full screen Music App, the Photo App, Bookmarks, and Contacts taking up some of the sense screens. Now I have 3 blank screens in LP that I want to fill up.

I tried about 6 free ones from the Market and they all stunk really bad. I don't mind paying for one, I just want something that offers more than what I got. Also, would it be possible if I found somebody with a Samsung Epic for them to pull the .APK off their device and me putting it on mine? Mine's rooted if that helps.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAlthough I have DolphinHD and Skyfire browsers loaded on my DInc, I generally use the default browser. Yesterday, for no apparent reason, the bookmarks would not load...instead I get a Force Close option:

I tried loading the HTC Bookmarks widget to see if I could grab my bookmarks that way. It claims I have no bookmarks.
So, I go to the market and add the app "Bookmarks to SD". I use it to transfer those supposedly non-existant bookmarks to the SD and then I sync them to the DolphinHD browser. Voila...the bookmarks are fine and working in DolphinHD.
So, the default browser is pretty useless now since it won't let me retrieve bookmarks and I'll just use Dolphin from now on.
Can I create a folder and put my most used bookmarks in it - so I don't have to bring up a browser every time ?
