HTC Incredible : Can I Get A Certified Replacement With An SLCD?
Oct 9, 2010
I already had my Incredible replaced a few months ago, but now I am having trouble with the replacement, and I'm thinking about getting this one replaced with another certified replacement. However, I'd much rather have the SLCD screen because the text is much sharper since the screens use the typical RGB pixel layout as opposed to the RGBG PenTile layout of the AMOLED screens. This is the one reason I can't stand the AMOLED screen, you can read more about it here...

Droid Incredible transitioning from AMOLED to SLCD touchscreens this month | Android Central. I thought it was just N1 and Desire, as HTC didn't mention Droid Incredible.

Flashing kernals is new to me although general rooting is not. Apparently with my new Inc I have the slcd which will only work with a few kernals. What I had to do to get some new ROMs working was flash the ROM, then flash a specific kernal before booting up. That worked and I was able to flash some ROMs that I was not previously able to use. It has come to my attention that there are some kernals out there that are better for battery life so my questions are:
1) If I want to flash a new kernal over my existing ROM can I just do that? Boot into recovery and flash the new kernal? (After a nandroid of course.) Or do I have to flash the ROM again, then flash the new kernal and then boot up? Do I need to wipe anything before flashing a new kernal?
2) What are the best kernals for battery life that work with the slcd screen?

I just got a new Incredible with the sLCD display. Pretty nice phone, got it all rooted and flashed with unrevoked and noticed the clockwork recovery didn't give a display. So I whent ahead and flashed amonRA instead. Everythings working OK, but whenever I try and flash cyanogen or any roms similar I get stuck at the 1st boot screen (HTC Incredible) I have gotten a few roms to install but none of the ones I wanted to try unforunatly. Is this perhaps being due to the lack of support for the slcd screen? Does anyone have cyanogen installed on their SLCD Droid Incred?

I mean you guys are asking redonkulous prices for these antique droid phones. And people are paying boo-koo bucks for them on eBay. Can't you simply purchase a certified pre-owned phone from Verizon, etc.?

I'm curious how good, or bad, the "certified like new" phones are. Long story, but I had one, when my first DX crashed only a few days after having it. The "like new" phone had sporadic issues as well as the having loose plug-ins. I demanded (and got) a NEW replacement, which worked flawlessly until 2.2, and now I am having significant problems again. VZW said they would ship a new replacement phone since my NEW phone was only 3 weeks old when 2.2 hit. I found out yesterday it is yet another "certified like new" ("CLN") phone. I did not have good luck with the prior one. So, if you have experience with a CLN phone, what is your experience? Good? Bad? ANY glitches with it? I'm also wondering if I should wait on the fix that Motorola "says" is coming but who knows when that will be?

What is required to get Jamaica on the list of certified countries? I live in Jamaica, and my country is not on THE list of certified countries. I can't get a Nexus One because the phone is not certified to be used here (or outside of the 'Golden Countries' namely, the US, Canada, EU, and the EEA states (Norway, Lichtenstein), Switzerland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore). This prevents me (and I'm sure others here in Ja.) from do dev work on the android phones. So again I ask, what is required to get Jamaica on the list of certified countries?

Looks like I have a dead pixel issue on my camera.. when I get a replacement, can that transfer all my settings and everything over, or do I need to downbload and install and setup everything all over again? I'm using launcher pro, and setting up all 7 home pages again takes a LOT of time.

I called tech support because of the numerous issues I've been having with my Inc (sound issues, in call sound dropping out with call still in progress, pink screen, unresponsive screen, weird lock ups, etc.).They told me I wouldn't get a replacement until July 19.I finally told her to order it but after much work, the system wouldn't let her order it at all.She got really flustered and finally got tired of messing with it and transferred me to tech support.Fortunately, I was transferred to a really helpful tech who really understanding. She also tried unsuccessfully to order it.She out the next two days but is having a coworker follow up and she will continue to help me sort it out if it isn't already by Wednesday. So we'll see what happens. One way or another she's promised to get me a working phone though I don't know if it will be an Inc.Just thought folks might find it interesting that at the moment, it can't be ordered internally.

Hopefully the new one, which is being shipped May 6th will not have these call quality issues or I might have to return the phone and wait for something else.I love everything else about this phone so hopefully I'm not back on Eris and waiting for something else or the issue to be fixed.

I am getting my replacement DI on Friday to replace my power button issue, I have an app I am unable to find in the market place called videobox where I could download and save you tube videos to watch later or show friends without streaming them again. I would like to save the file from my current phone and put it on my new phone.
I have my phone rooted but I am a windows mobile guy so the Android is a learning curve for me.

Mods please feel free to move this if it's not in the right section. I'm running skyraider 3.0 rc2 vanilla and love it so far. There are only a couple of things that I miss from stock sense. The one that I am after is a bookmark widget. I can't find any on the market. This got me thinking about widgets in general. There should be a list of widgets somewhere for people going to vanilla Roms. Is there such a list anywhere? We need one similar to the rooted apps thread. Just a thought. And if someone has any thoughts on a bookmark widget, that would be awesome. Or would the stock one work and where can I find it?

So I have had my replacement phone for about a month now. I haven't had time to play with it that much. I clicked on PDF, and low and behold there is something that was downloaded to the SD card as a PDF on it. I did not download this, which means they gave me a used SD card with the replacement phone ( sketchy right?) Anyway, I want to delete the pdf, how do i do it? I know there is an uninstall place somewhere, just not sure where it is. Also how do I check to see what else is on the SD card?

This thing is getting terrible signal quality, and in debug is never showing me anywhere better than -100. Customer service over the phone isn't helping a bit and want to debug the phone using another line. Well, I don't have another line.
I'm getting no where quickly.

I saw some similar threads in other phone forums (eris, EVO) but I'm wondering if anyone has had luck with this on the Dinc.
Verizon is shipping me what I assume is a refuted phone. If I turn it on, root it, and throw in my old SD card, will there be any trouble doing a typical nandroid restore?
i saw written previous issues of the title of the nandroid folder name (something about the correct phone serial number?)
edit: alternative could be titanium backup, but i don't know if one's preferable to the other.

I had to replace my Incredible as it developed a screen malfunction. The replacement has its own problems; namely, it reacts slowly to almost everything. In fact, as I sit here, it's locked up after I tried to play a video my wife sent me that I had played earlier today with no problem. It got catatonic on me the other evening; only recourse was to pull the battery (which it's looking like I'll have to do now). And text input presents its own problems (like getting the character a long keypress would get you, but about five seconds after I tap on the key). Is there anything that can be done for this replacement short of demanding another replacement?

The Samsung Galaxy S has just received the honor of being the first Android phone to be certified by DivX for HD video playback. You now have the official blessing from DivX to load up your (legal) 720p video files on your Galaxy S phone and enjoy your media on the go.With the phones DLNA and microUSB connections you will also be able to sync up with other DivX certified devices and enjoy your videos on your large screen TV. Currently, the only other phone to receive certification from DivX for HD playback is Bada powered Samsung Wave. With developers pushing out more Android handsets with larger screens, we should expect to see DivX handing out more HD certifications over the next few months.

I got my desire about 3 weeks ago and with a week i dropped it, shattered the digitiser and damaged the SLCD. I decided to "try" and do a self-repair - i bought a new digitixer and LCD (AMOLED). I know for sure that i had an SLCD as it wasn't branded samsung on the rear of the screen unlike its replacement which did. My problem is that the AMOLED won't work. my SLCD works fine (except the damaged pixels) so i know the handset itself is fine.
