HTC Desire :: Replace SLCD With AMOLED?

Oct 5, 2010

I got my desire about 3 weeks ago and with a week i dropped it, shattered the digitiser and damaged the SLCD. I decided to "try" and do a self-repair - i bought a new digitixer and LCD (AMOLED). I know for sure that i had an SLCD as it wasn't branded samsung on the rear of the screen unlike its replacement which did. My problem is that the AMOLED won't work. my SLCD works fine (except the damaged pixels) so i know the handset itself is fine.

HTC Desire :: Super Amoled Vs Slcd

Sep 22, 2010

My dad has a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant with the Super Amoled screen and I could barley tell the difference between my Htc Desire with Slcd and his phone. The only difference I could see is his blacks were a tiny bit darker.

HTC Desire :: Identify Screen Type - Slcd / Amoled?

Nov 19, 2010

I searched many forums but there seems to be no clear way to identify the screen type other than by eye. Clue #1: The box has no mention of AMOLED. Clue #2: P/N is 99HKZ009-00 Clue #3: Made in China Clue #4: Unbranded, unlocked phone bought from a US retailer. My plan is to root. According to what I've read so far, the method depends on the type of screen, SLCD or AMOLED. I need to know for sure, so as not to brick the phone.

HTC Desire :: SLCD - Update / Root Possible?

Sep 24, 2010

I just received a branded o2 desire with an slcd screen and have been reading various forum threads saying that making it unbranded may not work because it has an slcd - people have been getting black screens because drivers were not there? Is there a way to unbrand my desire without causing problems and also would i use the unrevoked method or goldcard? Also would i be able to receive OTA updates (official htc ones not o2 ones) after doing this.

HTC Desire :: Unbricking SLCD Bricked

Nov 28, 2010

This is from my original thread from XDA. It has had numerous hits and questions, which made me realize how so many people have had similar problems. There are solutions on XDA too, but the problem is that there is no one solution to the issue. There are a lot of solutions, but this is a aggregate of all the solutions. I will add FAQs as and when questions are asked, and will keep it as updated as possible. Criticisms, comments and questions are welcomed. HOW TO UN-BRICK AN SLCD BRICKED DESIRE Elementary Frequently asked questions have been included at the latter part of this post. Guide level: Beginner-Advanced (Beginners should read the FAQ at the end, before reading the instructions. Also be well versed with the Requirements I've listed, by reading from the articles listed, before you attempt the methods listed in the post). Caution. CREATING A GOLD CARD IS THE MOST IMPORTANT AND PRIMARY STEP TO DO BEFORE YOU ROOT YOUR DEVICE, WHETHER IT IS BRANDED OR UNBRANDED. IF YOU EVER WANT TO RETURN YOUR PHONE FOR WARRANTY, THIS IS ESSENTIAL, AND CAN GET YOU OUT OF MOST CASES OF SLCD BRICKS. What was my problem (a.k.a What is an SLCD bricked Desire? a.k.a Why is there nothing on my Desire screen after running an RUU/flashing an incompatible ROM)?......

HTC Desire :: HBOOT 0.80 - Slcd Screen / Amolded?

Aug 28, 2010

I have a T-mobile UK Desire which arrived on 30th July. I'd like to root it and load froyo but I'm baffled as to which process to use: I have 0.80. Turned on the phone while holding back button which gave these details:

BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.80.0000
MICROP 031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-4.06.00.02_2
Mar 29 2010, 21:34:33

I don't have access to the packaging but I'm fairly sure it said 3.7 Touch Senstive Screen (no mention of AMOLED). I've tried having a look at the black hue the screen displays but this just confused me since I don't really know what i am looking for / got nothing to compare it to. This post has confused me further: "SLCD will NOT work on HBOOT 0.80" lollylost100 Senior Member [FAQ] HBOOT 0.83 / 0.92 / SLCD - rooting and recovery - xda-developers. Was 'lollylost100' correct and I DEFINETLY have AMOLED just because of the HBOOT version? Or is it possible to have 0.80 + SLCD?

HTC Desire :: SLCD Screen Turned Black And Unresponsive

Nov 10, 2010

MY SITUATION: My phone was rooted with unrevoked3. I tried to install one of the modaco ROMS and did not realize that it was incompatible with my phone because my Desire has a newer type of screen (not amoled) but SLCD. This caused the phone screen to go black on start up and be unresponsive. It was frightening because at first the HTC bootscreen (green HTC on white) had black streaks through it , then goes black. But don't worry it is easily redeemed in below instructions. You need the latest ROM in zip form, put onto your phone and run recovery. Sweet as suzi, you will be debranded (if you were in the process of doing this , remember to make your gold card).

ISSUE:
1. Desire screen not switching on at all even though phone switches on.
2. Phone boots but doesn't go beyond bootloader/recovery/fastboot
3. Can get into recovery even though nothing comes on screen (test: press volume down and power. Wait for 10 seconds. Press volume down. Press power. Phone should vibrate. Wait 20 seconds. Phone should now be in recovery mode.)
4. Can get into fastboot (back+power)
5. No goldcard

CAUSE of ORIGINAL AUTHOR'S ISSUE:
I had Aura Sense7.9+AlphaRev S-Off. Cause::Ran a very old RUU just because I wanted to bring things back to stock. The RUU overwrote my HBOOT from 0.93 to god knows what. Turned out, the RUU was for amoled screens and not for SLCD screen. So even though the phone turned on, the screen never did......

HTC Desire :: Phone With SLCD Screen - Battery Life Difference

HTC Incredible : Can I Get A Certified Replacement With An SLCD?

Oct 9, 2010

I already had my Incredible replaced a few months ago, but now I am having trouble with the replacement, and I'm thinking about getting this one replaced with another certified replacement. However, I'd much rather have the SLCD screen because the text is much sharper since the screens use the typical RGB pixel layout as opposed to the RGBG PenTile layout of the AMOLED screens. This is the one reason I can't stand the AMOLED screen, you can read more about it here...

HTC Incredible :: Flashing Kernals And Slcd Screen

Oct 22, 2010

Flashing kernals is new to me although general rooting is not. Apparently with my new Inc I have the slcd which will only work with a few kernals. What I had to do to get some new ROMs working was flash the ROM, then flash a specific kernal before booting up. That worked and I was able to flash some ROMs that I was not previously able to use. It has come to my attention that there are some kernals out there that are better for battery life so my questions are:

1) If I want to flash a new kernal over my existing ROM can I just do that? Boot into recovery and flash the new kernal? (After a nandroid of course.) Or do I have to flash the ROM again, then flash the new kernal and then boot up? Do I need to wipe anything before flashing a new kernal?

2) What are the best kernals for battery life that work with the slcd screen?

So I whent ahead and flashed amonRA instead. Everythings working OK, but whenever I try and flash cyanogen or any roms similar I get stuck at the 1st boot screen (HTC Incredible) I have gotten a few roms to install but none of the ones I wanted to try unforunatly. Is this perhaps being due to the lack of support for the slcd screen? Does anyone have cyanogen installed on their SLCD Droid Incred?

HTC EVO 4G :: Super Amoled Screens Not Very Sharp?

Jul 25, 2010

Is it me or are the super amoled screesn simply not as sharp as normal lcd screens such as the EVO or Droids?I am a stickler for a sharp screen and looking at the super amoleds seems like looking as font constructed from lego blocks. The resolution grid, if you will, is very obvious/visible and not very impressive.I noticed this first on the Droid Incredible and to a worst extent on the Samsung Galaxy S which I looked at yesterday.I am simply not very impressed at either of these screens and wonder if we will suffer the same visual fate in the event that a future superphone or even subsequent revisions of the EVO switches to the amoled screens. Sure the colors are great but if that means blocky font then I am not willing to take one step forward and two backward. To be honest I am completely satisfied with color on my EVO, just wished resolution was higher.

HTC Incredible :: AMOLED Vs Super LCD Screens

Jun 30, 2010

I don't know if there has been anymore elaboration on the subject of the impending switch to LCD for the Incredibles or when it was supposed to go into effect, but I may or may not have stumbled onto something. I, finally, received my phone today. I haven't turned it on yet, as I have it sitting on the charger for another 3 hours. However, I did happen to flip through some of the booklets that came with the phone. If everyone could gather up their "Product Safety & Warranty Brochure," we can compare and see if there is a difference. On page 8 under the "Cleaning" bullet, it says "blah blah blah blah, but NEVER use water to clean the LCD screen." If any of you got your phones weeks or months earlier and it says "LED" for you, the switch may have already happened. As I said, I haven't turned the phone on yet and this is the only thing I have to go off of right now.
