HTC Incredible :: Camera Not Working - SD Error
Aug 26, 2010
I have a rooted phone with froyo.
Just got the phone today I was putting music on my phone from doubleTwist everything was going fine.
Then i put pictures / videos on my phone and i started getting an SD error and my camera stopped working.
So i reformatted the SD card and the card started to read fine but the camera is still not working
The camera / video looks like its just flashing red & white no picture at all.
(I tried google goggles as well and it looks the same)
Camera was working FINE before SD problems started
Tried doing a factory reset too

Anyone having trouble with the Layar Camera View mode? When I first installed this about 3 month ago, I was able to use it. Several updates (any maybe Froyo) later, It wont go into camera mode.I've uninstalled and re-installed, still no change.Any advice? The camera itself seems to function fine; Im able to take pictures, etc.

When I take a picture and try to send it via email it always tells me it's unable to send email and then sits in the outbox. Is there a way to find out why? I can send emails without attachments just fine.

After many frustrations i just had to comment on the updates out there.NOT all the froyo 2.2 updates are effective. after loading one of the most popular ones, everything went right until it booted up.I had no camera, no video, and my SD card was constantly looking for errors!after searching extensively, I figured what the heck, and seen a post for 2.2 WITH CAMERA that works advertised. I installed over the existing one, and when it rebooted ALL was well with my rooted 2.2 incredible.
Couple of things I do agree on..Make sure you have ASTRO loaded, and ROM Manager. Make no mistake I am not Technically Brilliant but it is easy with these programs. The file that worked flawlessly and got my camera back was ...
20100727_stock_froyo_signed....Look for it....it works!..this all started when i kept trying to get Wireless Tether to work.I have tried Kernels (which screwed up froyo) had to redo it again...also tried every version out there..so for the time being until someone gets it right..I am using PDANET which works great! even though you need a usb hookup...
Again, updating is easy with the right files.
1-update radio. EASY (If you have to.DO NOT update radio more than once)!
2-UNREVOKED- EASY
3-ADD above froyo 2.2 EASY...

So I rooted for the first time today, and tried to install Hydra Kernel's #1 & #3 kernels. The system seems completely stable with each kernel, except when I open the Camera app, the camera view is completely blank. Almost as if something was blocking the lens. Then when I try and take a photo, it locks up. I tried closing all apps, and restarting the camera, but this didn't work. Once I run a Nandroid restore prior to installing the kernels, the camera works fine.

last week i installed the leaked OTA and i really like it so i decided to stick with it. I have been debating for a while whether or not to root. Well today i finally took the plunge and had zero issues. Then i decided to install the 1.15 ghz OC Hydra Kernel and it is awesome, makes the phone really snappy. I havent seen any lag at all. Well the only issue i have found is my camera wont work. I open it and it is just a black screen. At first i do have my normal options, i can choose everything on the left slider and the zoom, flash buttons. Also i noticed the brightness gets turned up. But its like there is a lens cap on it. It does not display anything the lens is seeing. I tried rebooting and it still did the same thing. Is this possibly becuase i installed the leaked OTA first and the Kernel is not compatible? Has anyone else seen this?

When trying to do 720p recording the camera freezes, turns black and requires a battery removal. I got about 3 seconds of 720p recording but even when I go in to view the video it freezes or lags severely to the point I need to remove the battery.

Installed the new leaked froyo and now my camera does not work. Both Pic and video app come up but the screen is black. Also my internal 8gb of storage says "Unavailable". I tried formatting the storage a few times and reboot each time and nothing.
I had root my Dinc the old way so I unrooted back to stock, installed the first OTA, then rooted using the Unprovoked tool then installed the 2.2 zip file. Every step went exactly as the videos showed. Can anyone help me?
UPDATE!!!!

So I spent the last hour or more in my backyard in 107 degrees taking pictures of flowers at stock settings with both phones. NOT an easy task I will tell you that. My back hurts, but besides that... I did my best to show the best quality of BOTH cameras, because they are both great. I realize that not everyone will agree with me, or will think I messed with something in my pictures. But these are all completely stock settings, not messed with at all. I only touched the flash on/off button.
My decision is I like the X camera better, it is easier to focus, and much snappier. Plus designated camera button! I found on the Incredible while the pictures look great on the phone itself and in gallery, that as soon as they were uploaded the colours looked washed out and not as great. I know this is due to the AMOLED screen. But both overall great. My decision is the X though.

Does anyone else get this error message from time to time? Its very annoying and happens at the worst time (ie when a really super photo shot happens).I either have to reboot my phone before it will comes right or alternatively I have to keep trying to reload the camera and sometimes on about the 4th or 5th attempt it comes right. Can this be rectified? Is it a setting i have wrong? This is such an amazing phone, but man oh man, does it have some bugs that need to be worked out

I am trying, together with Lexmazter and Zasuk to compile codefireX, android 4.2.2 for Runnymede also known as Htc sensation xl.
Now i am so close on having everything working but for the last week i have used so much time to fix one error i keep having, when starting up the camera.
The repo i am using is this :
codefireX source
Runnymede device tree
Runnymede vendor files
Runnymede msm7x30-common files
Booting up looks fine in logcat, and it does load the camera.default.so from stock runnymede ICS rom and if i install a Tourch app or flashlight app, i can use the Flashlight from camera without errors. But if i starts the camera app, it camera stops working in same sec as i start it. No picture or anything.
The same kernel/boot.img is used in evervolv for runnymede, and it has working camera So the error should be somewhere in the rom.
Here is a part of a logcat with the camera error :
Code:
3718: E/memalloc( 107): /dev/pmem: Failed to map buffer size:4300800 offset:3072000 fd:53 Error: Invalid argument
3719: E/gralloc ( 107): Could not mmap handle 0x2a0c1d30, fd=53 (Invalid argument)
3720: E/gralloc ( 107): gralloc_register_buffer: gralloc_map failed
3721: W/GraphicBufferMapper( 107): registerBuffer(0x2a0c1d30) failed -22 (Invalid argument)
3722: E/GraphicBuffer( 107): unflatten: registerBuffer failed: Invalid argument (-22)
[Code] .....
The full log can be found here : Full logcat
I have also made a last_kmsg but it looks fine to me :last_kmsg

My Flash on the camera has stopped working all of a sudden. I checked the camcorder and the light (flash on) didn't work. I tapped the back of the phone near the flash. It worked. I went back to camera and turned on flash, it worked. So by tapping something I jigged something around in there and the flash was working.

Bought a HTC Desire and just cannot get its camera flash working. Obviously having hard time with people at the shop ("have you tried taking these pictures at night, maybe it understands that it is still daytime even if you tried it in bathroom"). My dumb brain would suggest that manual - flash always on (unless that 5% battery limit is not hit), automatic - depends on sensor income, off - no flash. Really hard to search for stuff like that in forums as usually "flash not working" refers to Adobe Flash.

Has anyone got this problem like me? yesterday it happened to me for the 2nd time, I just click the camera app and out of nowhere I got a black screen, like camera freezes or something. So first time what I did was make a factory reset and everything was back to normal, and that was beforo Froyo, now when I am running Froyo, I wonder when I make a factory reset does it turns me all the way back to the stock desire, without new software version and Froyo update? I have bought Desire on contract so I have everything official, no unbranded or rooted phone.

I'm a little disappointed with the Evo's camera and camcorder. It's kind of fuzzy and the sound is pretty bad. Is this a hardware issue or a software issue? Is there a hack you can do to make it better? I heard somewhere its a compression and fps issue. Please don't give me answers like "the Evo's quality is great" or "get a real camera".
