I have a Telus hero on ATT here in teh states..anyway I can receive emails on all my email accounts..but I cant send email on my phone..when i goto send an email in teh Notifications area is saya Account settings errror..hmm doesnt make sense..if i can receive email i should be able to send email correct...

I decided to try and root to install a custom 2.1 rom on my Telus HTC Hero running firmware 1.5 (build 2.73.661.46 CL#74632 release-keys), but I'm failing miserably! I'm following the goldcard method to downgrade before rooting but every time I create a gold card it fails. I remove the card and either insert it into the phone or PC and both tell me it's unrecognised and needs formatting.
I've tried 4 different micro SD cards (stock 2GB, class 4 4GB, class 4 8GB, generic 2GB) all with the same result. Is this because I'm running Windows Vista or Windows 7 (I get the same result on two different laptops)? If I install XP will I have more luck? Or do I just need to keep spending yet more cash on unneeded micro SD cards? Or just keep trying with the same cards over and over agian? Failing that, I'll buy a prepared goldcard if anybody has a spare one lying around?
I am running a Telus Hero on AT&T's network. I know other people are also doing this as well. I was thinking about the 2.1 update due out and was wondering what us unlocked Telus Hero owners should do to get it when it is released. I emailed HTC, and they said this. Quote:

I can send an email and it will appear as it goes through, but the email is never actually sent or does not show up on my sent box (on either the phone or outlook).Any similar issues from others & any suggestions on fixing?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs anyone aware of an email issue in which you can send, reply to and forward a message through POP mail only if connected to WiFi?
I have a couple of POP accounts (outside of gmail) set up in the email application. The last couple of days (with the WiFi off), I have tried to respond to an email through my phone, as well as forward another and it comes up with an alert that it is unable to send. Then I turn on my WiFi and try again and it goes through fine.
Confused by this, if anyone has an explanation or fix. I would like to be able to reply, forward, send regardless if I am on the network or WiFiespecially since I will not always have a WiFi hotspot available in every situation.
Receiving messages still works fine. Sending is where the problem pops up. It cant be the settings, as it can send when WiFi is on using the exact same settings as are entered when trying over the network.
As promised I have created a full step by step root guide. This was designed for the Telus Hero in mind but will work with any GSM Hero. Downgrading process may not be necessary on some models of GSM Hero. I have designed this guide for some one with extremely limited computer knowledge. Note. Windows 7 did give me some trouble so you may want to use Windows XP. I had to sue an XP machine to downgrade.

I remember when HTC Hero came out, I was about to buy it but then all the reviews came out and said it was extremely laggy. So I went with an iPhone 3G. But now I noticed that Hero got firmware updates and whatnot, so how does the phone work in terms of lag? Is it still laggy, or what? If any one of you have used an iPhone before, how does it compare to HTC Hero? I love the Android interface, I used to own the Magic, but I cannot deal with lag. And I don't want to get into the hassle of rooting/changing roms and whatnot.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got a Telus version of the HTC Hero. Coming from an iPhone, I've been through some of the 'root/jailbreak' scenes, so most things are familiar. However, making the transition to the Anrdoid OS, there's many things I'm not understanding. Currently the Hero is running 1.5 (can that be updated). I tried running Instant Root and it failed. So I tried the Gold Card method (Eh, not too bad) and no luck with that. I'm not sure where to start, since the guides mentioned in the stickies for root don't work for me. I'm just a confused newbie with the Android customization scene.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with my Gmail app where I think no information is being 'sent' from the phone. I receive incoming mails, but no mails are sent. Though I delete incoming mails, the next notification which I receive when I get the next mail will show "17 mails" though I would have deleted the previous 16 emails. When I check email on my browser, all the emails what I had deleted are still there. I have tried a factory reset and I still have a problem.

So what did i do, I obviously waited till i got home and hoped on my wifi with my hero and waited for this message to pop up again..but no msg came
Im currently still running 1.5 and its not rooted yet(dont want to root it)
I also did some research and it said on the htc website that i have to wait another 7 days for this message to pop back up, and to manually check for an update u need to go to settings>about phone>check for update............but i dont have that option anywhere? ive gone through all of my settings and there is no option to check..
if i ever wanted to go back to the orginal ROM i had out of the box, where exactly would i find it? just in case i ever have to send the phone back for work or something.

But i would like to know everyone opinion on it comparing to other smart phones and on getting it at this time. I live in Canada and we dont get the same release for America's phones so i was wondering is there anything worth coming that would be alot better for me to get and wait for? View 4 Replies View Relatedafter installing 2.2 on my hero, everything was working fine, until now. im having problems with my text messages, they wont send under sprints network, if i put it in roaming then they send right away, but roaming has awefully slow (1x) network speeds, but if i put it back to the 3g network speeds of sprint then everytime i try to send a text it just swirls in circles (the little thing next to the message) and wont send. is this sprints network being down? or does this have to do with the 2.2 update?i dont think its sprint because my mom and sister arent having any problems with there phones from the same plan. but i tryed restarting many times, taking out and leaving out the battery, putting it in airplane mode and turning that back off to reset connection, iv tryed everything and cant get it to work, so idk what to do, and i dont understand why if it was a software problem with the 2.2 installation, why would they send in roaming but not on sprints network?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI once had a samsung jet which was great but it was on orange and i wanted it on 3 because i recieved a better signal and wanted their push email. But when i put my three sim into my now unlocked Jet i found that i lacked 3's certificates and couldn't tether or get 3's push email.Anyway this made me decide to upgrade to a 3 hero to gain their functions however it seems their are no "certificate" needed and the hero seems to have its own push email service and can tether easily.SO my question is if i debrand my hero and thus can ugrade to 2.1 android will i still recieve free push email and be able to tether? as i guess if i change my rom it might be hard to go back.

View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently found settings that allow me to send MMS on O2 from an Unlocked (Orange) Hero.
Only problem is that no matter what I try I can never send/receive images bigger that 4kb. I understand that it's something to do with O2 not recognising the phone, therefore reducing the file size.
I presume a lot of people would have the same issue but has anybody got a work around for this? Something that tricks their servers into thinking that it's another phone perhaps?
I thought using Handscent might work as you can set the size but unfortunately the setting seems to be superseded by O2 when sending/receiving.
i have a HTC Hero & i was wondering how you send songs or images to other people via Bluetooth?I have looked around the phone and there is no Send via Bluetooth anywhere.It kinda sucks if you cant do it as every phone these days should have the capability of sending & receiving Files.

I do have a problem, hopefully a simple one, that I'm not sure what to do about. When I try to send an MMS, when it comes time to hit the menu button and then attach, there is no attach button to hit. I get all messages, quick text, compose, send, delete and insert smiley.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy Hero is frequently haven't problems with failed SMS messages. It's increased since I upgraded the handset to Three's official 2.1 upgrade, although it had a habit of failing messages when it was running 1.5, too.
Three have swapped my handset because of previous issues with it, so it would appear to be a network/ Android issue.
I was wondering, has anyone figured out how you can send emails via different addresses from the gmail app? I can send from 5 different ones from gmail's web interface, but can only get the app to use the default.

So.....I did send out 100+ messages within like 5 minutes...just sending out a mass txt message letting people know of my new number. So is this Androids way of anti-spam?

I love my sprint hero, but am on the fence about sprint itself tons of people have told me how they hated sprints service, customer service, etc..my wife and I thought the ability to send pics via messaging is a cool feature however it doesn't appear to work all that well.have tried the built in and also handcent messaging. am connected currently via my wifi at home and that doesn't help either. i realize there are probably size restrictions ( size anyone) but it should work sometimes.also the voice record feature on handsentend feature doesn't work either.
