HTC Hero :: O2 - Sending MMS Larger Than 4kb
Mar 30, 2010
Recently found settings that allow me to send MMS on O2 from an Unlocked (Orange) Hero.
Only problem is that no matter what I try I can never send/receive images bigger that 4kb. I understand that it's something to do with O2 not recognising the phone, therefore reducing the file size.
I presume a lot of people would have the same issue but has anybody got a work around for this? Something that tricks their servers into thinking that it's another phone perhaps?
I thought using Handscent might work as you can set the size but unfortunately the setting seems to be superseded by O2 when sending/receiving.

I'm looking to get a larger card for my phone. Do you just copy everything from the supplied card to the new one?

when i am composing a text message, sometimes the box of the entry goes larger and goes back smaller, is there a way to increase the text entry box size, say, double tap on it to bring up a whole screen text entry area?

I have an HTC Hero with a 2Gb Mini SD that is almost full, so I bought a 8Gb mini to replace the small original 2Gb SD. The 2Gb is 75% full so I am sure there is data and config that I need but is on that 2 Gb SD. What is the best way to replace the card without losing the data and config.I tried HTC Sync, but it only wants to back up my Outlook, which I don't sync anyways. I also mounted the phone as a HD and looking at the file system, there seems to be no way to copy and replace what I need. One other question. Is the SD card the only storage media on the phone? Is there internal built in storage other than a BIOS type boot strap?

I have had my HTC Hero for about six months but have only just now tried to send an MMS. However, the message is not sending. I am on Orange (UK) and have set up an APN following these MMS Settings to the letter, but still no joy.

I bought the HTC Hero, yesterday. I've already learned a lot about it from the posters on this site. I do have a problem, hopefully a simple one, that I'm not sure what to do about. When I try to send an MMS, when it comes time to hit the menu button and then attach, there is no attach button to hit. I get all messages, quick text, compose, send, delete and insert smiley.

My Hero is frequently haven't problems with failed SMS messages. It's increased since I upgraded the handset to Three's official 2.1 upgrade, although it had a habit of failing messages when it was running 1.5, too.
Three have swapped my handset because of previous issues with it, so it would appear to be a network/ Android issue.

after installing 2.2 on my hero, everything was working fine, until now. im having problems with my text messages, they wont send under sprints network, if i put it in roaming then they send right away, but roaming has awefully slow (1x) network speeds, but if i put it back to the 3g network speeds of sprint then everytime i try to send a text it just swirls in circles (the little thing next to the message) and wont send. is this sprints network being down? or does this have to do with the 2.2 update?i dont think its sprint because my mom and sister arent having any problems with there phones from the same plan. but i tryed restarting many times, taking out and leaving out the battery, putting it in airplane mode and turning that back off to reset connection, iv tryed everything and cant get it to work, so idk what to do, and i dont understand why if it was a software problem with the 2.2 installation, why would they send in roaming but not on sprints network?

So when sending text messages, I get the following message every single time i press 'send'
"com.android.mms A large number of text SMS messages are being sent. Select 'ok' to send"
So.....I did send out 100+ messages within like 5 minutes...just sending out a mass txt message letting people know of my new number. So is this Androids way of anti-spam?
I need a way to turn it off, because now I have to make this extra step every single time i send a text message

Is anyone aware of an email issue in which you can send, reply to and forward a message through POP mail only if connected to WiFi?
I have a couple of POP accounts (outside of gmail) set up in the email application. The last couple of days (with the WiFi off), I have tried to respond to an email through my phone, as well as forward another and it comes up with an alert that it is unable to send. Then I turn on my WiFi and try again and it goes through fine.
Confused by this, if anyone has an explanation or fix. I would like to be able to reply, forward, send regardless if I am on the network or WiFiespecially since I will not always have a WiFi hotspot available in every situation.
Receiving messages still works fine. Sending is where the problem pops up. It cant be the settings, as it can send when WiFi is on using the exact same settings as are entered when trying over the network.

I love my sprint hero, but am on the fence about sprint itself tons of people have told me how they hated sprints service, customer service, etc..my wife and I thought the ability to send pics via messaging is a cool feature however it doesn't appear to work all that well.have tried the built in and also handcent messaging. am connected currently via my wifi at home and that doesn't help either. i realize there are probably size restrictions ( size anyone) but it should work sometimes.also the voice record feature on handsentend feature doesn't work either.

Just to let you know my husband and I both have heros and finally figured out how to, annoying at best, receive pic messages. We use them frequently, have an 17 month old son. If you just send a pic message and go in and send the same one again a minute or so later the second one will work. This is a very annoying problem for us because we use this feature so often for "all kinds of pictures" So hopeful this will help the rest of you that are annoyed with the "downloading" problem!

I have a friend who is added to my Desire's contact list.
1. He is on my Facebook contact. (His facebook pic appears in my Desire contact list)
2. He is my Gmail contact as well.
3. He is added as a 'Phone Contact' as well.
I sent him a text few days ago but don't remember if it was using facebook or my phone (network provider sms) but now when I go in to 'Messages' and send him a message, I just can't figure out if I am sending him a message via Facebook or to his mobile number.

Is there a way to set my "messages" app to send only to mobile numbers? I need to be able to send a mass text to a couple of contact groups, but it keeps sending many of them to people's emails rather than cell phones and many times they don't receive it.

I have an issue with my Gmail app where I think no information is being 'sent' from the phone. I receive incoming mails, but no mails are sent. Though I delete incoming mails, the next notification which I receive when I get the next mail will show "17 mails" though I would have deleted the previous 16 emails. When I check email on my browser, all the emails what I had deleted are still there. I have tried a factory reset and I still have a problem.

I think I'm experiencing my first real problem with my Hero. I've noticed that my wife (and who knows who else) hasn't been getting my txts when I send them... Sometimes it takes a full day for her to get them. Email has been delayed the past couple days, too. Items will sit in the outbox for hours and when I pull them up, there's red text saying it's sending..." This happens whether I'm connected to WiFi or just using the mobile radio. 2 bars or 5 bars, it doesn't seem to matter.

It seems like whenever I try to send pictures to others via MMS, it won't let me because the pictures are too large. I know I can have my Hero take pictures it smaller resolutions, but I wouldn't want low-res pictures unless I would want to send them via MMS.
The thing is, a lot of times I dont know ahead of time that a picture I am about to take with the Hero will be used to send in an MMS. So its hard to make the decision to take in a low res beforehand. I could just switch the Hero to take all pics in low res, but then what about all the pics I don't need to send via MMS? They will all be low resolution.

I've been havng trouble emailing pictures with my HTC hero ("unable to send mail" notices) and wonder if others have had similar experiences. The problem seems to be worse with anything greater than the lowest resolution. Even 400kbyte pictures are a problem. I assume this is just a file transfer problem, not a camera app problem (the app from which the file is mailed). Mails w/o attachments go thru 100% of the time.
I spoke with someone at sprint today, and the first thing they told me was that I need to have at least three bars of signal strength, then I was told that higher resolution pictures can't be sent from the hero.
Given that Sprint does not have more that two bars in most of northern new jersey, this is a bit of a problem. If this is true, I don't think they should be calling this a data service.
For the most part, internet browsing and even video like youtube and TED work fine, and most the time I can get an EVDO connection.
Playing with it a bit, it looks to me like the issue is maintaining a solid data link to upload the file. I'd expect better with a TCP/IP connection, as I've had some experience designing that sort of thing. Late at night, if I get two bars and set the phone down so the signal strength does not waver, I can generally send even a 5 mpixel picture that's nearly 1000k.
I've tried this with the mail set to allow up to 1000k transfers and with no limit on transfer size, and that has no effect.
Some specific questions I have are:
1) Are others having this problem?
2) Anybody have a solution?
3) Anybody notice if it's network congestion related?
4) Anybody know anything about messing with the TCP/IP settings like timeouts and retrys to hold a connection on a spotty rf network?

I did the 2.1 upgrade and camera seems to have same lagginess. Does anyone have any pointers for how to set camera for responsive pics (I have a 2 year old)? I remember seeing some tips when I first got the phone last year and it helped...I'm having no luck my own. Also, when I go to send a pic with text, it is compressing the pics very small and the quality goes to crap. Went into text setting and set the file size to the largest, but it doesn't seem to help.
