HTC Hero :: Best PAYG Package For Internet Access

Feb 14, 2010

I will be visiting the UK in April and would like to use my Hero whilst over there, predominantly for Internet access, can anyone recommend the best value PAYG package, I have seen previously that T-Mobile have a package for 7 days unlimited access for ?5, is that still available? And is that the best solution, my Hero is unlocked, rooted and running MoDaCo 3.1.

HTC Hero :: Best PAYG package for Internet access

HTC Hero :: PAYG Internet Access Without Time Limit

Aug 26, 2009

I'm a very light mobile phone user (100 minutes per month at most, often much less, with a sprinkling of texts) and I expect to need intensive mobile internet access only sporadically. Since much of this will be while travelling abroad I don't want to get locked into a large regular commitment to a UK carrier.

If all I wanted was phone access (calls and texts) the obvious answer would be a standard PAYG deal where the value of each top-up stays on the phone indefinitely until I use it. However, so far as I can see, this kind of deal doesn't seem to be available for internet data access (except at ridiculous prices like ?1 per MB).

At reasonable rates per GB all I can find are "rolling" deals where I pay monthly until I cancel or one-off "add-ons" (for example from Three where I can buy 500MB for use within 7 days or 2GB for use within a month). In either case, any allowance I don't use within the period goes to waste. What's more the one-off add-on carries the risk of forgetting to look out for the end of the 7-day or 30-day period and getting hit by penal charges.

HTC Hero :: Data Roaming On PAYG

Dec 17, 2009

I was trying to find out from T-mobile, how long 15 PAYG foreign Data roaming (I'm from the UK, but travelling to Belgium for a few days) would last. I know it depends on usage, but they couldn;t tell me if I, say, checked my emails a couple of times and used the GPS a couple of times a day, how big a chunk of my 15 it would take.

Android :: Can't Access Package Private Fields In Android.widget Package?

Oct 7, 2010

I'm attempting to override an Android View class to tweak the functionality just slightly. But I need to modify a field that does not have a setter method. I've placed the subclass in a package called android.widget. Why can't I access any of the package-private member fields? I notice that the compiler says they "cannot be resolved," rather than not being accessible. Does this have something to do with how Android.jar is built?

Android :: How To Access Other Package's Private Files?

I'm trying to find a way to access private files created by other packages.According to the dev site (plz see the following), I can read/write files of other packages if some flags are set on the create of those files, but I don't know how. Can I just open those files with Context.openFileInput(or Context.openFileOutput)? Do I need a different way for those three cases? By three cases, I mean getSharedPreferences(String, int), openFileOutput(String, int), openOrCreateDatabase(String, int, SQLiteDatabase.CursorFactory).

I've tried it with and without security set up. I've rebooted. I even took the battery out and let it rest. (All of that cleared out the Error 67 on the phone but still the laptop sees no Internet.) Internet on the phone is great - even got 4G, but. What in the heck am I doing wrong? How can I get Internet access for the laptop?

HTC EVO 4G :: WiFi Vs 3-4G And App Internet Access?

Aug 30, 2010

How exactly do I set up WiFi work most efficiently on my EVO? Does it know to choose the best option for getting to the internet? (WiFi or 3/4G?)

Here's why I ask: I have an app that syncs info between the internet and the phone. When I can't get a signal, it can't sync. Often I have crappy reception at home, one or two bars only (a whole 'nother thread), but I do have a strong wifi signal.

Being a newbie to all this, in my little world, logic assumes that the phone would automatically switch from 3or4G to wifi for the exchange of data (but not for talking). But I think I don't have it right. Can someone explain it to me? And how to best set up my phone to take advantage of the strongest signal for data exchange?

General :: HTC One Cannot Access Internet

Dec 8, 2013

I'm having an issue with HTC One. The problem is the phone CAN connect to wifi / mobile network, but it CANNOT access internet. Every time I try to access any websites or apps that require internet connection like Facebook, it takes so long for the page-loading thing, and then it said:"The webpage is not available" or "No network connection." I also attempted to shut it down and restart, disconnect wifi and re-type the password. It doesn't work at all.

P.S: I did test the other devices, and the network works fine. So, apparently, it's not the network problem itself.

Android : Way To Access Internet In Emulator

May 1, 2010

I just installed the SDK and then added the 1.6 component. Then I created an AVD. When I launch the AVD (inidentally, there is a brief error message saying could not load preferences) and try and login, it says no network connection. THe computer definitely has an Internet connection, otherwise I could not write this message.. Evberything I have read suggests you don't have to do anything special to get Internet access in the emulator. My computer's Internet connection is via LAN, which connects to a 3G router. I read something about using 10.0.2.2 in the proxy settings, but when I specify that in their SDK, the SDK hangs upon launch as it tries to find the repository, or whatever it does at startup.

General :: Popup Asking For Internet Access?

Feb 19, 2013

I like LBE Privacy Guard, especially for its on-demand permission requests when an app asks to access my SMS Inbox or whatnot; I like that I can ensure that it never accesses it, always does without asking, or continues to ask each time.

I'm also using the firewall with mixed results; I don't like having to choose each app and whether it's allowed to access the internet via 3g/wifi ahead of time. I'd like a popup request with similar options (though I guess it would be more like a timeout rather than per-session, e.g. "yes it can access the internet over my 3g connection but only for the next 10 minutes."

Is there already an app that does this? I've checked a few firewall apps like Droid Wall (and a few similar apps) and they don't offer this on-demand (or on-app-accessing-internet, I suppose!)

Android :: Logging On To SSH Server For Internet Access

Sep 20, 2010

At my campus, to get internet connection, I need to log on to a SSH server like they write:.you must manually log in to the firewall server, by establishing a pseudo-tty-less ssh connection to it. The following command can be used on most systems: ssh -T -l [username] [server-URL]I must be logged on to the server for as long as I want internet.Does anyone have any idea how to accomplish this on Android?I have a little experience in writing basic apps for Android, but not much with SSH, any help is appreciated.

/Update
Tried ConnectBot, but the server replies "You may only connect without a pseudo-tty!" at login attempt. I have no idea what "pseudo-tty" is, and I have looked in the settings of ConnectBot, there is no mention of this.

/Update2
Searched for any further info about the pseudo-tty-less function, in connection with OpenSSH. No luck so far, only a definition of the -T parameter which has no equivalent in ConnectBot.

HTC Desire :: Unable To Access Live Tv / Internet

Jun 14, 2010

Having been optimistic that I would finally be able to use all the fancy bits of the internet with my Desire, I find myself somewhat nobbled. I am particularly interested in using the BBC site - but I can't access any audio, video or iplayer from my phone. Beebplayer worked once, literally, but can now only access radio stations. I have done some reading and understand that:the BBC haven't yet released a proper Android app. the Flash lite that comes with 2.1 may not work with everything, some people have found incompatibility issues with T-mobile. I appreciate that BBC is not the only fruit, but for a user of a multi-media phone, I find it crazy that I can't use their site properly. I don't appear to be able to access any live TV or news streaming elsewhere either. My phone is not a fashion accessory - I bought it because I wanted a phone and reliable and quick access to news (in different forms), without the premium of an iPhone. It's so frustrating, I feel like I've bought the wrong phone, even though I know it's not really the handset itself that's the problem! After all, it is marketed as having Flash and being more than able to cope with multi media on the internet. but apparently not for everyone. Whilst waiting for Android 2.2, the BBC, T-mobile... or whatever else needs updating. what can I do?
