I have rooted my DI, and I downloaded the newest WiFi tethering app 2.0.5. I can connect to my droid with my wireless PC, but it always say no internet connection. It shows I'm connected but without internet access.

I've had WiFi tethering for awhile now, but I have never got it to work properly. The problem is that I will have, say, my laptop, or any device for that matter, connected to my Droid and I am able to maintain a steady internet connection for about a minute. After that, the tethering application reports a download speed of 0.0kbps. If I disconnect my laptop (or other device) and reconnect it, it'll start to work again, but only for about another minute. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

I have a hunting club where I only get cell phone service, no internet connection, so I downloaded Easytether and am actually using it right now and it works great. My question is, I only get service in one of the rooms to use it and would like to use it in the living room. Is there anyway to do this? Do they make a longer usb/ally charger so I could leave my phone in the room and take the computer in the living room? It doesn't seem like easytether offers bluetooth. I tried bluetooth on pdanet but cannot get it to work b/c it's too confusing for me. I can get my device pair and connected but it only connects for media/phone and won't connect when I try to dial up from computer. Ok that's long enough and confusing enough for yall.
View 1 Replies View Relatedanyone else having this problem? using 2.1 under caulkin's kernel. it seems like I can kind of overload the phone doing too much and the mobile network connection on my phone will disappear completely. this is while downloading something that may download too fast, sometimes it happens loading .GIF images too. I'll have to restart the phone to get the internet back. this happens no matter if I'm using wireless, USB or bluetooth tethering.

You want to tether to a PC using USB
Device is rooted
Is there a way to give the PC access to the phone's IPv6 internet connection?
I'm assuming that we can't give the PC a public IPv6 address, because the phone is probably only allotted one IPv6 address from the carrier; plus they might treat your plan differently or something if you try to claim another IP address (it's an unnecessary complexity)
So what we actually need to do is, to create a NAT IPv6 space on the device, just like we do for IPv4 when we tether, and provision an IP to the PC that way. Then we have to do something for DNS; I guess we can use OpenDNS's AAAA servers.
Do any of the existing tethering methods support this at all, or is this something I'd have to do manually? Also, is it possible even in theory on Android 2.3, or is it known that a newer version of Android will enable it?
What i want is my computer to use my phones connection to access the internet is this possible? i get an ad hoc connection but i cant get my computer onto the internet.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a rooted 2.1, it's been working perfectly since I rooted and updated and all.I love how fast and responsive everything is now.BUT one of the main reasons I rooted was so that I could take advantage of the wifi tethering.It works sometimes.sometimes great.BUT if I try to go to facebook.it'll work well sometimes, then others it won't even load the page.then eventually just kills my connection. gmail seems to have the same reaction.works sometimes, other times, nothing. i dont seem to have much of a problem surfing other sites.HOWEVER if i try to download anything over like 4MB big...my connection just gets killed all together, and nothing works. a friend of mine sent me his bands new demos...the zip file is like 35MB.it only gets a little ways before just dropping down to 0.0kbs and then it just sits there, not loading crap. I can re start the connection, and it will start downloading again, but after about 30 or 40 seconds.the connection gets killed again. Same goes for a torrent...if I try to download a torrent, it'll work and get pretty fast, up to 190kbs.but after just under a minute, connection killed. why is this? does verizon kill data connections that come in to fast or something? i have a friend who tethers with at&t with his iphone, he got the demos downloaded in like 12 min on his iphone tethering app. do i need to do some tweaking to my phone so I can download? im not trying to go crazy, but I'd like to atleast be able to get large attachments and such.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had a Galaxy Tab for 2 years, and used it, very successfully, as a wifi hotspot from May until July this year, when my laptop was suddenly not able to connect to the internet via the hotspot. It connected just fine to the Tab, and has no problems on my home wifi. The Tab was still able to connect to the internet normally, with no apparent problems.
I fiddled about a bit and thought perhaps it was a hardware problem, so bought a seconhand Nexus S. That has been working fine until yesterday, when the exact same thing has happened - the laptop can connect fine to the Nexus, but says there is no internet connection. The Nexus itself is connecting just fine.
I'm in the UK - my carrier is Three (Hutchinson).
I just rooted my recently acquired Evo for one really intersting app, the wifi tether app for root users. im pretty sure i rooted my phone correctly and i am on 2.2. The problem i am getting is that my computer picks up the wireless connection but it still says i have no internet connection and it doesn't work.

My phone is connected to my home wireless and it even has really strong signal but going on the internet simply doesnt work. Going on with mobile data works, but connected to my main wifi source doesnt. I've been trying everything from dailing *#0011# to changing the ips and gateways and whatever. It can connect to the wifi but going on the internet/facebook/youtube is difficult.

View 8 Replies View Relatedi just picked up a unlocked a moto cliq.. my concern is that i have never had a data plan on my account (at&t). this phone seems to have alot of different apps and widgets updating themselfs continuosly.. i have no problem with while im at home beacuse of my wifi that i can connect to.. but when im not on a wifi connection it seems to still be updating.. which i dont want until i upgrade my plan to unlimited data.. How do i turn off these features or turn off data/ internet acess all together when im not on a wifi connection?
View 4 Replies View Relatedfor whatever reason today we lost our internet connection at work. Now I work for an airline doing charters and today we added a second flight to each shift. So I tethered my phone for the 3g and just plugged it in at the end of the day to charge it. Needless to say it handeled 300 passengers/customers easy. Changes, bag fees, checking in and selling for a solid 8hrs today! I don't think I'll ever get another cell phone ever. Maybe a bigger SD, but phone, probably not.

When I have wi fi turned off, as I can't connect when I am not in work anyway I use the usual O2 facilty however in this mode, I cannot download anything. Have set up Portable Wi-Fi hotspot on my 4S 4.2.2. Everything seems OK and laptop identifies AP and connects to it
but there is no internet connection to the phone. Data 3G works perfectly - regular internet works perfectly - Orange UK.
Ok, I am rooted and have the wireless tethering app installed. @ 1st it worked pretty good, but here recently it will work for a few minutes then cause my internet to go out for like 30 min or so...but when I tether with pdanet it works for hours with no problem ever. what am I doing wrong when I wirelessly tether to make it stop working, when it stops working, my mac is still connected to the wifi but won't transmit anything.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have rooted my captivate and downloaded Barnacle, both the legacy and the beta version and both are discoverable from my laptop and ipod touch but none of them can actually connect, I went through all the settings and played around to no avail. I then tried "wireless tether" app which I can't seem to find in appbrain to link but the icon is the WiFi signal strength bar in green if that helps, the only thing this app does is say wi-fi tethering is on but the device doesn't show up at all. My question is are there ANY wifi tethering apps that are currently compatible with a rooted Captivate?

I'm kind of ashamed to ask this but I'm curious. Now that I have Froyo and the option in settings to WiFi tether will I get charged an extra fee from Verizon for doing so?
And if so, what are my options for doing it for free with-out root? I don't ever use it nor do I really need it but I can foresee in the future using it some random day.
Wireless tether worked perfectly before installing custom rom. I still have android.tether folder on sd card with fw bcm4329 but cant get wireless tethering to work again. can revert to stock nandroid backup and wireless tether works fine.

does anyone have any suggestions to try to get my wifi tether working. i can start the app, i can connect my laptop to the access point it creates, but i have no internet access. any thoughts? is the app DHCP compatible or do i need to manually setup my ip settings on laptop?
