I am having real problems getting my hero to connect to vodafone internet. Vodafone have twice sent settings but my phone hasnt received them. I have tried some different APN settings that I found on the internet, but without success. Since the update I can't seem to find where you can check that the phone is enabled for 3g.

I have HTC Hero, 2.1-update 1, and windows 7 Pro on Lenovo Thikpad T410.
I want to connect to internet through Connectify (2.1.1) but I can not, Hero is always just obtain address, but never connects.
Do I have to do anything with advanced settings on hero, or enything else?
Just got a new Hero using a PAYG o2 sim and I am having trouble connecting to the internet without Wi-Fi. I remember someone saying that it was easy entering the settings for o2. Can some kind soul give me a simple step-by-step instruction for setting up the hero with o2?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am a new HTC Magic (Vodafone) user and have downloaded a number of useful Apps from the market. Since I work away from the UK (and have roaming disabled) and I have a Wi-Fi at home, I do not have a data pack included in my contract. However, I have found that a great App I downloaded - NetCounter - is reporting cell traffic that is going to end up costing me a lot of money.
So I have a few questions.
1) How do I switch between running applications, so I can see what's running?
2) How do I prevent certain Apps from starting whenever I power on the phone?
3) How do I see what Apps are connecting to the internet(ignoring the WiFi) and creating unwanted cell traffic.
4) Is there something I can disable so that I can use the phone normally, but prevent it from connecting to the internet unless I am back home and using the WiFi connection.
Is it possible from the notebook to connect to the internet using X10. I have a 510 and I can connect to the internet from my notebook through pc suite but I cannot find any pc suite for X10. PC Companion does not do this. my pc suite v6 cannot connect to the X10.

1) It seems to use loads of data even when i am not actively using the phone, and i have disabled google's background data setting. I would stop using the phone with the 3g connection on and my NetCounter app would say 2,5mb used , i would sleep and wake up and it would note 23mb used for instance. Does this phone send background info to SE and Google over and above what we can control in the settings. As i live in South Africa , our internet browsing cost are high even via 3G and this seems extreme. What should a average user be using in a month? ( ?MB)
2) The next issue blows my mind. Due to the fact that i used to have a SE p910i and it did connect with ease. The Experia seems unable to connect to the internet via the USB cable. It does connect to the PC to trf. files and music , photos etc , and it can use the internet via PC (connected to LAN) to do an update. Yet with my phone connected to PC i cannot simply use LAN through PC to browse on the phone. I know the phone is aimed at mobile connectivity via 2/3G and WiFi, i get that. But if my phone is connected to my PC most days when i am in the office ( it charges like this obviously) then why am i forced to use 3G or wifi, it seems odd that such an "amazing" phone in constrained like this. So if i want to browse the Android Market while connected to PC i am forced to use 3G or connect to a wifi network to do this , thus having to pay for data , that would otherwise be accessed if i could get access to the LAN.
Please can someone explain why an advanced handset, "smart" phone cant seem to do , what most handsets prior to these fancy touch screens could do. I mean i had a Samsung Omnia and decided to go back to SE, the Omnia could share its internet connection with my PC and it could also connect to the internet via the USB ( access LAN via PC)
SE dont you think it is embaressing that clients have to bring up issues like this. For all that android is , it seems more limiting in my experience so far , having used the X10 for 3 months.
SE please suprise me with some options or at least news of an update that can remedy what i would call an embarassing oversight. I think the Windows OS phones do this in their sleep.

I've got new phone (Samsung Galaxy Express 2 ) and when i try to connect to internet with wifi it just writes that i have no connection.Yesterday it started working for a while but after i restarted my wifi router it just stopped.Wifi works on my laptop and tablet but not on phone.

I have been looking for something I can browse the internet with, watch video, and take notes in class all while having the capabilities of a tablet. My girlfriend works nights at a sleep lab and has an extremely terrible wifi connection at her work. The only way for her to connect to the internet is via cable. I'm thinking that the Transformer (with dock) is our best option but I was wondering if a simple cable to USB adapter will work on a Transformer for connecting to the internet?

View 4 Replies View RelatedNone of the MMS related settings are in place and Vodafone say they can't send the settings direct to the phone as they don't officially support the Hero. They did however email me the settings for the Magic which I've tried but they don't work. When I attempt to send an MMS to myself (for testing) I get two messages the first is blank and then the second has the link and password to view the pic online but when I go in to the message i get an error that says: "sorry! The application messages (process com.android.mms) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."..........
View 16 Replies View RelatedI have an unlocked Hero using a Sim from Vodafone. So far all seems ok apart from one strange anomaly. When I'm in my office I have to use a Vodafone Gateway as there is no regular signal here. This works fine, however my phone thinks it's in deepest Russia and it's making me feel cold being constantly told that the temperature is -15 DegC and sunny. Is this because Vodafone have a server hidden in the darkest depths of Russia and is there any way I can change this apart from manually telling it where I am each day?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently got a brown Hero from Carphone Warehouse on Vodafone (30, 300 mins, unl.txt & data, 24 months) and I'm over the moon with it. I'm so glad I didn't do what all the sheep in my office have done and get an iphone.
I had read that the Hero is pretty laggy but a firmware update would sort it out. It does lag sometimes, yeah but no big deal. I thought I'd still get the firmware update though, so I've been checking out the best way to do it. Here's the problem: On the HTC download page the generic ROM upgrade is v.2.73.405.5, but I'm already running 2.73.405.66, so I didn't install it. The 3UK users though get to download 2.73.771.73, but with my serial I can't get it.
How much difference do the firmare updates make? How can I get the latest one? I'm feeling a bit gutted that only 3 and Orange are getting properly supported by the folks at HTC. Why not support the other networks in this way?
Since I got my Unlocked Hero back in August & just slipped my existing Vodafone SIM into the phone, I have not changed any of the default APN settings.
Is there any other specific Vodafone APN settings I should be using & if so, what is the advantage of using them?
When my wifi scans on my HTC hero my router is not picked up (even though im sitting right next to it). I also tried adding it myself and when I had completed that it just says "not in range, remembered" or something.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI seem to have a problem when trying to connect the Hero to the Internet via Wi-Fi.
It seems to take an age to connect sometimes up to a minute to make connection. Wheras if connect via 3G etc it connects via automatically.
I am using the Wi-Fi widget to connect & disconnect if that makes any difference.
This is also NOT just happening at home but at other locations where I have connected via Wi-Fi before.
These are all secured connections that I am trying to make.
In contrast my wife has an N1 & this connects to the Wi-Fi at home virtually instantly.
Trying to connect a HTC Hero to my computer, it used to connect ok as i used to use the phone as a modem for my laptop, but now instead of the charger light coming on & charging and the little symbol saying it was connected in the top elft of the screen it ONLY charges the phone but the little symbol doesnt come up in the top left and i cant find the device on my computer, iv tried new cables etc but still no joy, any ideas?
