HTC Hero :: Will Hero Be Capable To Handle V2.0 Effectively?
Jan 23, 2010
As HTC announced that they are going to update Hero with the Android 2.0. I watched a video of G1 with Android 2.0. and that phone was messed up in terms of touch response, performance. Everything seemed to be in "slow motion". So, I want to know, Is Hero fully capable to handle v2.0 most effectively? It will show no lags?Right now I'm on 3 (UK) and my upgrade is due in Feb. My first choice is X10, if it comes on 3. If it doesn't then I intend to go for Hero. I am just a bit concerned about the effective compatibility of Hero with v2.0.

I'm writing a program for my toddler and I'm running into a problem.
I call mediaplayer numerous times. Each time a button is clicked it runs media player, but it's a different sound. So should I create a new instance each time?
Here's what I'm looking at...
CODE:..........................
Now that seems to work fine on the emulator. When I pack it up into an APK and put it on my G1 I can only do it 7 times before it force closes. I BELIEVE the memory gets full or something.

Anybody have any probs with the power button? Got caught in a torrential downpour this afternoon to find my wallet and phone somewhat damp after being in my soaking jeans.Power button no longer works so effectively once the screen saver kicks in I cant unlock it. Thankfully its still within warranty so will take it back to get a replacement. This is the 2nd phone I've had that has suffered this prob. My previous phone, a dreadful Sony Ericsson died a death.Avoiding the rain is somewhat unavoidable when you live in Scotland. MakingTaking a phonecall in the rain is sometimes a necessary evil. I really have to question the build quality of some of the modern phones. Do they even test the use of phones in the rain? It seems somewhat of a basic function, and to have such a major malfunction with such minimal exposure to rain is quite disappointing to say the least, especially when it never came into direct contact.

I've added a WebView to an app and need to pass it a url which contains a passThrough parameter so the url it is directing to effectively logs automatically into the target site. However when it opens the browser this value doesn't seem to get sent across?

I have (UNFORTUNATELY) an Orange branded/locked HTC Hero running the oh-so-old Android 1.5 ROM....what would happen if I tried updating it with the Sprint 2.1 ROM (if this is possible). If it's not possible / will brick my phone, does anyone have any idea when Orange will release the update (not even had the fabled pre-update update which the rest of Europe seem to have had or about to).As an aside, I will NEVER buy an HTC phone again after this s*** is over with. They may wonder why people want iPhones....Apple promise the iOS4 update...they deliver, on time with no malarkey about supposed different carrier versions. Counting the months till I'm out of contract and can sack off my HTC Hero.

If you take a look at this post on gizmodo: Sprint Hero Review: Faster, Stronger, Uglier - Sprint htc hero review - Gizmodo.it claims that the sprint hero works better in low light than the GSM hero. Why is the GSM hero so much worse in low light?

Yesterday i found a HTC Hero lying around at the office, i asked by boss about it and he said that i could have it if i got i working. The problem is that when u turn it on, u will only see the "Hero logo" and get a small vibrator beep. This is anoying since the phone cant make a USB connection to my computer, so i cant use any official HTC flashing software, im therefore kinda limitet to placing files on the sdcard.

Is there a way/setting/app capable of being able to "double click" on an Icon while browsing on the phone. The way the company sets up my work calender is when I want to see what the schedule is I have to double click to open it. On a regular browser double clicking is no problem but on the EVO all it does is zoom in.

I slowly getting more disappointed with this phone. When you plug in standard headphones without a mic, you get mono output and not stereo. The Hero's 3.5mm plug is Mono not Stereo

Its been perfectly fine since I installed it over a month ago, but recently my memory card corrupted and now I cannot download any apps off the market.I had an ext2 partition, so I reformatted my memory stick the exact same way it was before it corrupted. Even so, whenever I try to download items from the market they just get stuck on "Starting Download".I literally cannot download ANY apps

I hate the lock screen on the Hero, I know their is a way to turn it off, but i don't like getting a message and then the phone doing something in my pocket. Is their a way to extract the .apk of the lock screen from the droid, and just install it on the hero, I understand that the resolution on the hero is different, but hate the current lock screen, i have to slide it down 2-3 times for it to recognize. I downloaded lock 2.0 already on the market, its not bad. but it takes 3-4 seconds on my phone to actually give me the slide to unlock screen.

I dont know what "underclocked" means, but nonetheless the Droid's processing is a bit higher than the Hero's. And also,I know that the Arm Cortex A8 is a better processor than the Qualcomm's in the first place anyways. So, looking at those specs, is the Droid's processing power really that much more superior than the Hero's? Basically, I'm trying to get an idea of how much of the Droid's better performance is due to its processing power as opposed to its higher (and more efficiently coded, im assuming) Eclair OS.

I recently installed the new security patch that came out around the release of the EVO because I was unaware of what it entailed. However this battery life problem has become sickening and I would really love to root my phone and get rid of all this sprint trash on my phone.

I once had a samsung jet which was great but it was on orange and i wanted it on 3 because i recieved a better signal and wanted their push email. But when i put my three sim into my now unlocked Jet i found that i lacked 3's certificates and couldn't tether or get 3's push email.Anyway this made me decide to upgrade to a 3 hero to gain their functions however it seems their are no "certificate" needed and the hero seems to have its own push email service and can tether easily.SO my question is if i debrand my hero and thus can ugrade to 2.1 android will i still recieve free push email and be able to tether? as i guess if i change my rom it might be hard to go back.

So I've been looking at some videos on YouTube of the new HTC Desire and Legends. I've been paying attention mostly to the Legend, because it was more similiar specs to the Hero than the Desire does. I've noticed that the new Sense seems to run very smoothly on the Legend with its 600MHz processor. Now, we all know that the Hero can be quite laggy at times, and we all want some performance increase from the update. But how much better really is the 600MHz processor than the Hero's 529MHz? Are the videos of the Legend a good portrayal of how Sense will perform on our Hero's?

Is there an application I could use to record both sides of a phone conversation with an HTC Hero? I don't have one yet (currently a blackberry user) but if one is available I'd be willing to make the switch. I'm a medical writer and need to record interviews and since I'm going to be on the road a lot in the near future, don't have access to landlines and the ability to use a conventional tape recorder.
