Is there any safe way to keep the std headset when not in use during traveling? The wires are getting entangled when I keep it in pocket and anyone has any methods to keep it in top class.

Im going to Germany tomorrow, lives in denmark, and i have found out that data traffic is quite expensive, so i've got two options, either to unsubscrib from data traffic in other conuntries at my phone company or find out if there is a way to set the HTC Hero to not use data traffic for homescreen widgets and so forth, as it would be nice to be able to turn it on if i need to check something urgent.

My question is: what is the most cost efficient way to call with my G1 while outside the US using access to Wifi and without roaming? A typical scenario would be that I am in France or in the UK, and I want to call a local number or a cell phone number in either of these countries but don't want to roam to avoid huge bills. I have access to Wifi most of the time when in France or in the UK.

If I plug in my headphones it switches to headphone mode, but as soon as I disconnect them it switches back to headset mode. When travelling I don't want my phone to ring or else i'd get charged international roaming rates for the voicemail if one is left, so I need any incoming calls to go immediately straight to my home phone without the call reaching the Captivate while i'm abroad. While i'm overseas I use my phone for text messaging, no voice to save money. I do this with my Palm Treo Pro all the time when travelling, set up the network so that the call immediately gets forwarded to my home number.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a serious problem with my HTC Hero. Basically, all of a sudden I got this icon of a pair of headphones in the notification area. I checked what it meant on the manual and it means: Wired Headset Connected.There were no headset connected when it appeared and never before because I have never put any headset in the phone. I thought that by restarting the mobile I'll have it solved..but no..the icon remains there. The major problem is not the icon in itself but the phonecalls. When I call someone or someone calls me, there is no sound in the ear speaker because the sound output is basically going into a headset that does not exist. I tried putting the factory headset in and out to refresh the icon however this does not sort out the problem neither. There is no setting to switch this thing on or off and I have no idea how it came up. I tried all settings even during an incoming call or so but nothing..there's this flag that keeps indicating a wired headset. I don't feel like formatting the phone because it's not fair!! (and i dont have the damn time to play around..it costs good money so i pretend it works fine he only way I can have a phone conversation is either by putting the call on speakerphone (obviously losing privacy) or by carrying a headset around with me all the time.

1. How do I stop this message? "Bluetooth Headset Disconnected" I get it very often on my Hero. I have the phone paired with my 2009 Toyota, and leave the Bluetooth turned on on the phone all the time, so I don't have to remember to do that each time I enter or exit the car. I have also paired my phone with my wife's car, but she uses her phone with her car most of the time. Is there a way to stop this message? It has been hours today since I used my car, and I continue to see this message pop up on the phone. It does go away after a few seconds, but it is annoying.
2. When I go to Bluetooth settings, there are 3 devices shown, CAR MULTIMEDIA, CAR M_MEDIA, and HANDS FREE. I think our two cars are called CAR MULTIMEDIA and CAR M_MEDIA, and another one that I once paired with a Garmin GPS called "HANDS FREE". Is there any way to delete that 3rd device? And is this causing the above message?
Can anyone recommend me a Bluetooth headset for my Sprint Hero? I had a couple that worked really well with my Moto Q9c (WinMo 6.1) but don't seem to have all the same functionality with the Hero (controlling calls, etc.).
So I figured I'd look around for a new headset. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
I'm having some call quality issues but they're mainly on the other end of the line. Those I'm speaking to are picking up some static/background noise. I really don't have any complaints with the call quality on my end. Also, I've noticed it seems to be worse when I'm in the car traveling. If I'm at home and make a call, others tell me the call is clear. Anyone else experience a similar scenario?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had a problem on my first HTC Hero where after a while, when I unplugged my headphones - e.g. after listening to music, it would go into headset mode. i.e. Although no headset or headphones were attached, the Headset Icon would appear and you couldn't hear anything through the inbuilt speaker and the inbuilt microphone would not work. I got orange to send me a replacement and now the same is happening. I have to reboot the phone to get it to work.
Further info:
- I'm using a set of sennheisser headphones, have tried another third party set and the same thing seems to happen.
- have installed the headset on/off widget but even when turning the phantom headset off via this, the speaker does not always work. Don't know what happens to the
- loudspeaker mode works but then switching this off doesn't guarantee the inbuilt speak/microphone will start working
- never used a bluetooth headset
- have updated the ROM to the new faster version, but this problem happened on my original phone with the older version too.
I wonder if this is a related issue to that some people have experienced where there headset does not work - as I say I'm not using one - but it seems perhaps the software or physical headphone/headset detection in the minijack socket is dodgy?
Lately, I have had a lot of issues with my bluetooth headphones (won't start on the countless other issues). Out of no where it will stop working; so I go into my bluetooth settings and the headset says it is still connected.... (not the issue)
The issue is when I try disconnecting then re-connecting, the message "Headset is disconnected" appears and will not go away under any circumstance. It stays there when going back to the home page, putting the phone to sleep and back on, everywhere, even when reconnected!
The only way to get the message to go away is powering off the phone. I have repeated this several times with the same results 100% of the time.
I really liked being able to plug my Blackberry into my car stereo and have a really cheap hands free solution. When I plug my Hero into my stereo the microphone becomes muted. Anybody know how to fix this? Is it possible?

View 2 Replies View Relatedyesterday, I spent several hours trying to figure out how to capture the HEADSET_PLUG intent with a BroadcastReceiver. The manifest defines the <receiver>, with its intent-filter set to <action android:name="android.intent.action.HEADSET_PLUG" />.
The receiver is working correctly (I verified that by changing the intent filter to capture things like SMS_RECEIVED including the proper permissions and the receiver fired as expected on receiving an SMS), but when listening for HEADSET_PLUG, it never fires. Debugging the whole thing is a bit complicated, as the emulator doesn't seem to support headsets and I have to disconnect my target device (a HTC Dream) from USB in order to attach a headset (so there's no logfile viewing). Are there any special permissions required for applications to capture the HEADSET_PLUG intent (and if so, which? I've tried several, to no avail)?
Maybe the Dream doesn't fire such an intent at all (that'd be bad luck for me), but I guess that it must be an issue related to application permissions. The documentation says extremely little (well, actually: nothing) about the single permissions needed to perform all the actions described in the API docs, so this is absolutely something to be improved.
What I want to do: Upon detecting a headset, I want to re-route the ringtones from the speakers to the headset, so as not to annoy people in my vicinity by a harsh ringing sound (I'm used to this behaviour from my old phone) - by default, the speaker just keeps on ringing, no matter whether a headset is attached or not. This part is already working, but now I need to know how to detect headset attachment/ detachment events.
Been looking at some for few weeks now and wanted to see what people suggest for the Desire. Saw a Jabra one for around 25.00, Is there any that won't work with the phone at all?
