I really liked being able to plug my Blackberry into my car stereo and have a really cheap hands free solution. When I plug my Hero into my stereo the microphone becomes muted. Anybody know how to fix this? Is it possible?

There are some external stereo microphones for IOS that plug into the headphone jack rather than the dock connector. For instance, the IK Multimedia iRig MIC Cast.
They claim that they work on Android as well.
Well, they may work, but do they provide better sound quality than the internal phone microphone, turning it into a decent digital recorder for music, for example? (with the right software, of course).
My question isn't really whether those microphones are better quality than the internal microphones, as I assume they are. But does the headphone jack on Android phones (mine is the Galaxy S4) really provide the input capability for better quality sound, including in stereo?
Of course that jack can transfer sound in both directions, headset and microphone, as it is a phone. For output, the phone provides quality stereo music output to headphones, as modern phones are also music players. However, the microphones on phone stereo headsets are generally low quality monaural microphones only suitable for phone calls, usually not better than the internal microphone, might be worse.
So the question is--is the input function of that jack capable of providing quality stereo input, if one has a quality stereo microphone attached? (No matter how good quality the microphone is, if that jack really cannot transmit that quality sound, but reduces it to a very low resolution and frequency-reduced monaural sound, no point at all in attaching such a microphone.

I've got a male to male 3.5MM connector to plug into my aux port in my stereo of my car. I can stream Pandora, slacker etc, with no problem. HOWEVER, when I initially plug it in, my notification bar shows the headset Icon. After a while however, it turns into the Microphone enabled headset icon and it pulls up the Voice dialer app. This then kill slacker/pandora or anything else I'm running. If I'm able to listen for a while without it messing with the streaming app, once someone calls, then music stops, I can talk handsfree and then it goes back to the music when the call ends. But then almost immediately, the voice dialer app is brought back up and I'm back in the same situation where everything dies.

Currently I've taken the following approach (unfortunately - it does not work): 1) register PhoneStateListener to detect when a call is started/ finished 2) when call is started then I start a thread that periodically calls audioManager.isMicrophoneMute() method to discover a microphone status. (audioManager is obtained by calling getSystemService (AUDIO_SERVICE) ) 3) when call is finished I stop a thread started in bullet 2
Unfortunately audioManager.isMicrophoneMute() always returns 'true', does not matter if I select or deselect the 'Mute' option in the menu during a call. Does anybody know if it is possible to detect the state of a microphone during a call?
I'm working on an app that uses AudioRecord class to get input data from the phone mic. For some reason I'm unable to mute the mic. I have tried with different AudioSources (DEFAULT, MIC and VOICE_UPLINK) when creating the AudioRecord object, but there's no difference in the muting behaviour.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSO i pushed the volume rocker down all the way to silent on the sprint hero for my weekly office meeting, thinking that the phone was completely muted, and then I opened up gang wars on the phone and it started BLARING rap music on full volume through the speakers!!! WHAT IS WITH THIS??? Would the stupid phone know to mute everything? Or did I do somethign wrong and not doing this properly? My old treo had a volume kill switch on the top of the phone and NO sounds would work. Is there any way to quickly MUTE all sounds without having to also go to settings sounds media and scrolling it down to zero?? also, even when i set the media volume down, a lot of times an app causes it to be set to high again. WHATS WITH THIS?

I've found some plugs for the iPhone online, but i wasn't sure if they would fit into the Hero very well, they don't look like they would from the pictures. Or if anyone knows an easy way to create your own plug that looks fairly decent that would be cool too. I checked around the forum here, but i wasn't able to find any info regarding this yet.

When I rooted to 2.1 I had a microphone by the gear. I also notice a microphone on the Evo. I was having issues with Gmail and switched to the official RUU and now have no microphone icon. That is an amazing feature! So how do I get it back? Diff keyboard or a feature I am missing? It looks like I cannot root anymore (for a while at least). Anyways just having the microphone icon would suffice I don't have to root per se.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't own an Epic but have thought about jumping from verizon to sprint for their superior 3G coverage in my area. The only phone that interests me is the Epic so I have been reading a lot of forums and reviews. I have heard that the Samsung is supposed to have great quality through the 3.5mm(I think because of some pre-amp or dedicated part of the processor. I'm no expert and cant remember what I read and where).
I haven't really seen to many comments about the audio quality from the 3.5mm headset jack and also the exterior speaker loudness and quality. Coming from the Original Moto Droid it has the best external speaker on any other phone I've owned thus far but sub-par 3.5mm headset jack quality/loudness. Can anybody give me some of their personal opinions on how they think the Epic external speaker matches up to the original Moto Droid and how about the quality/loudness out of the 3.5mm.
I would like to have a Bluetooth headset with inbuilt Microphone to take calls. I bought a Nokia headset, but noticed immediately that it dropped music quiet quickly and after a while it was impossible to make it work at all. Anyone has a model that works (as in WORKS) with the I7500?

The microphone volume of my Bluetooth headset is on the low side. It's the same headset I used with my previous Windows Mobile phone and in that configuration I had no problems. I paired a different Bluetooth headset with the Desire, but no luck... the volume is still to low. The volume of the build-in mic is ok.
Does anybody know what I can do to increase the mic volume? Settings? App?
I got a pair of LG HBS-730 to input voice commands to my SG-N7100, but it doesn't seem to work. I'm on a stock CM10.1 and grab the input from Autovoice (a nifty Tasker plugin).
Depending on whether I activate Phone, Media or both in the Bluetooth settings of the headset, the input is either solely grabbed from the phone's microphone or is ignored.
I tried BTMono, BT Launch and a few other apps, but it seems to be Android related. [URL] ....
I also tried disabling/renaming VoiceDialer.apk, but it only works with the headset button presses not with the microphone issue.
I'll try anything at this point (including dabbling with Java and Android Intents).
I have a Galaxy Note 2 and can't figure out how to record via my bluetooth headset not via the phone mic. Tried 20+ apps that record great via the phone mic but not via my headset.

1. How do I stop this message? "Bluetooth Headset Disconnected" I get it very often on my Hero. I have the phone paired with my 2009 Toyota, and leave the Bluetooth turned on on the phone all the time, so I don't have to remember to do that each time I enter or exit the car. I have also paired my phone with my wife's car, but she uses her phone with her car most of the time. Is there a way to stop this message? It has been hours today since I used my car, and I continue to see this message pop up on the phone. It does go away after a few seconds, but it is annoying.
2. When I go to Bluetooth settings, there are 3 devices shown, CAR MULTIMEDIA, CAR M_MEDIA, and HANDS FREE. I think our two cars are called CAR MULTIMEDIA and CAR M_MEDIA, and another one that I once paired with a Garmin GPS called "HANDS FREE". Is there any way to delete that 3rd device? And is this causing the above message?
Can anyone recommend me a Bluetooth headset for my Sprint Hero? I had a couple that worked really well with my Moto Q9c (WinMo 6.1) but don't seem to have all the same functionality with the Hero (controlling calls, etc.).
So I figured I'd look around for a new headset. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Lately, I have had a lot of issues with my bluetooth headphones (won't start on the countless other issues). Out of no where it will stop working; so I go into my bluetooth settings and the headset says it is still connected.... (not the issue)
The issue is when I try disconnecting then re-connecting, the message "Headset is disconnected" appears and will not go away under any circumstance. It stays there when going back to the home page, putting the phone to sleep and back on, everywhere, even when reconnected!
The only way to get the message to go away is powering off the phone. I have repeated this several times with the same results 100% of the time.
Will battery life be affected if you leave Bluetooth turned on and leave the headset off.Just read leaving GPS on doesn't effect the battery if you are not using an app that uses GPS.Thought this might work for Bluetooth also.

I can't put the phone on vibrate or mute at night because then the push notification for the app will be muted also, so I want to leave the phone on "Sound" but somehow be able to quickly make the ringtone silent for when I go to bed and then in the morning put it back to what it was without going through settings each time and digging through my list of sound files.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I first plugged in my ear phones into my first Hero phone after a while (5 min) the songs shuttled and turned itself off. I tried to listen to some music again but the phone didn?t recognise that the ear phones were plugged in after that. I sent that phone back and got a new phone. I was going to wait until 2.1 OS came out but when I heard that it wasn?t coming out till March I thought I might try this new phone out been as though I have had it for a couple of months without listening to any music (expected the same though). And the same happen again. It sounds like its the 1.5 OS or the ROM not updated yet because I had already set up all the phone before I realised I had to do this. So thats why I decided to wait until 2.1 and get it all over with and hope it solves the problem.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI got my HTC hero on Orange last week and it's great - everything worked great, but after a day the headphone jack stopped working: when I plug in the headphones they aren't recognised by the device, eg : music will carry on playing on the speaker instead of playing in headphones. Happens with other headphones too not just the supplied ones. I've reset the device with factory settings but no joy. Was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem? Orange have agreed to exchange the device but only when they have new devices in stock later on in the week. Was wondering if a firmware re-install might fix it but not sure how to do it and if would be a waste of time if it's a hardware issue.

Tried within Handcent and vanilla messages app and elsewhere. I have used this feature on a friend's unbranded Hero running 2.1 (in Egypt) so is it missing from Orange UK ROM or have I missed a settng for enabling it?
